Nicky Byrne has claimed that maybe Craig Revel Horwood made a bit of a mistake when scoring his routine on Saturday night.
The former Westlife star got three eights from Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli for his jive routine with Karen in Wembley, however Craig was a little measly and only gave him a six.
The mark trailed his overall score down to 30, which moved him lower on the leaderboard and ultimately led to him finding himself in the danceoff on Sunday night.
Speaking on It Takes Two last night, the Irish singer said that he likes to tell himself that the judge just got a little mixed up and said:
“I think what happened with Craig was he took the six out upside down…it was meant to be a nine.”
On Saturday night, apart from Craig’s comments, everything went well for Nicky. The other panellists liked his routine, the audience cheered and seemed to enjoy the performance and he said that he loved every minute of the rock and roll dance.
“I loved it, it was Wembley. To get there was huge, I knew what the atmosphere was going to be like, it’s an amazing place so you have to go out and enjoy it and try to entertain.”
“I loved it, we felt like we have it a great job.”
However even though, as Karen put it, she and Nicky thought they had scored a ‘home run’ they ended up in the bottom two with Richard Arnold and in danger of elimination.
Nicky hated very minute of that segment of the show and confessed:
“When you are in the danceoff…I have never been in any situation like that in my life, it’s horrible. I don’t ever want to be there agin.”
“There is no winner in that situation and as much as I got through, my gut feeling and initial reaction was to get to Richard to make sure he was ok.”
Thankfully, all four judges voted to save the singer and that gave him the boost of confidence he needed for going ahead into this week.
“When they all give you the go ahead you do feel like you’ve done something right, it was nice,” he said.
This weekend the couple will take on The Charleston and are hoping to do it justice and avoid being in the danger zone again.
Rehearsals seem to be going well so far and Nicky said:
“It’s going ok, it’s the first day I’ve put a few hours in. It’s exciting, it’s very fun. I’m sure Craig will give us a four or something.”
“We were in the danceoff so it’s time to come out fighting. I genuinely don’t want to leave the show, no one does. We’re going to pick up the pieces and give it some fight!”
