The Strictly Come Dancing contestants are getting ever closer to the final and to that glitterball trophy and tensions were running high in tonight’s week nine results show.
Last week Michael Vaughan found himself in the danceoff along with Victoria Pendleton and though all the judges voted to save him, bookies were predicting that he would be in danger tonight.
The panel wren’t very complimentary about his performance last night either, with Bruno Tonioli branding him the ‘one hip wonder’ and telling him he needs to learn to ‘swing both ways’ in a dance sense of course.
It was no surprise then when Michael ended up in danger again this evening and he went head to head with former Westlife star Nicky Byrne.
It wasn’t Nicky’s first danceoff either and as both men were at the bottom of the leaderboard last night it can’t have been a shock for them to find themselves up for elimination tonight.
Michael and his partner Natalie Lowe and Nicky and his partner Karen Hauer performed again for the panel, and after both couples had performed for a second time the judges delivered their verdicts.
Craig Revel Horwood backed Nicky, saying his routine had been ‘absolutely sensational, the second time round.’
Darcey Bussell backed the Westlie hunk too adding:
“Both pairs upped their game tonight. It’s really difficult for me, but I am going to save Nicky and Karen”
Bruno Tonioli agreed with his co-stars and commented: “I have to go for the couple who for me had the licence to thrill. Of course, that was Nicky and Karen”
Len Goodman agreed and with the vote being unanimous, Michael was the eighth celebrity to leave the BBC show.
“I’ve had a ball. Nine weeks ago I had never been on a shiny floor, and I’ve got to December. September, October, November and still dancing in December. I’ve drained every ouce of dance ability out of my body because of this lady… everything about this show, the judges and everyone backstage, all the contestants have been great, I’ve got new friends that I’ve made for life. Nicky thoroughly deserved that win, he wiped the floor with me! I’ve had a ball, and the real winner for me is this one [Natalie]. She got me to the ninth week, which is quite remarkable.”
And Natalie reflected “Words can’t describe how incredible you are. Thank you so much for making this dream come true. I’m sorry I couldn’t have taken you further.”
Also on the results show, Les Miserables star Alfie Boe wowed the audience with his version of the classic track Bridge Over Troubled Water and X Factor stars JLS sang their new single Hold Me Down.
