Craig Revel Horwood has revealed exactly why he couldn’t give Louis Smith a ten on Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing show.
The Australian star watched on straight faced at the weekend as Len Goodman and Darcey Bussell raved about the Olympic star’s Charleston and quickly bestowed his first tens of the series. Craig gave Louis an eight and said that he found something was lacking from his and Flavia’s routine, even though he thought it was a big improvement on previous weeks.
On It Takes Two this week the judge said that while he appreciated Louis’ gymnastic tricks, his flips, his spins and his acrobatics he still found something lacking.
He explained to Zoe Ball:
“It was wonderful having all the acrobatics, it was perfect for The Charleston, you can put all that stuff in because it’s high energy.”
“He was brilliant, he had swivel which I go on about all the time.”
However it wasn’t perfect and the normally nasty star continued:
“I just thought it lacked an element. It wasn’t personality, I think it was the abandonment of step. In the Charleston you really have to look a little bit quirkier, he was a bit placed.”
“If you are comparing them to other Charlestons that we’ve had, I think we’ve had better.”
He then agreed that he had preferred Denise Van Outen’s take on the dance a few weeks before.
Meanwhile, Louis has thanked his fans for their support in the series so far. He is currently bookies’ favourite to win and has not yet been in the bottom two. Smith tweeted:
“Can’t thank everyone enough who supports and voted me and Flavia through the competition into next week. #crewlove is unreal thank you :)”
Flavia seems pretty excited about their new routine and added:
“Looking forward to dance fusion next week, not sure we can say what dances we are doing yet. X”
