Strictly Come Dancing 2013: Bosses want rugby star Ben Cohen to be “the heartthrob of the new series!”
The new series of Strictly Come Dancing of course debuts in the autumn on BBC1, and ahead of it, the show’s production staff are busy finalising the line-up of celebrity contestants…
And it’s been revealed today that among those who’ll be donning lycra and sequins this year is rugby star Ben Cohen, who the show’s bosses are apparently hoping will become “the heartthrob of the new series.”
The Daily Mirror on Sunday reports, “Former England winger Ben, 34, has been signed to join stars including model Abbey Clancy, 27, pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor, 34, and radio host Vanessa Feltz, 51, for the show later this year.”
Of World Cup winner Ben, a Strictly insider said, “Ben is gorgeous and we have high hopes he will be the latest Strictly pin-up.
“We can’t wait to see him on the dance floor.”
However, Ben – who’s 6ft 2in and weighs 16stone – confessed, “I’m a terrible dancer, it is some sight.”
But it seems he has no intention of changing his physique as he added, “There’s nothing I’d change about my appearance. I try to keep in shape.”
By joining the line-up for this year’s show, Ben will of course be following in the dance steps of fellow rugby stars Gavin Henson, Austin Healey, Kenny Logan and Matt Dawson, all of whom did well during their time on the show.
Here’s a reminder of Gavin on SCD…
