Bruce Forsyth has insisted that he is not senile or losing his marbles and that viewers shouldn’t worry about his mental health.
The Strictly Come Dancing host has fronted the BBC show for more than a decade and his close pal Ronnie Corbett recently claimed that he is currently serving out his final series and plans to leave at the end of the current run.
However, after fans claimed there must be something wrong as he was fluffing his lines on the Saturday night special, Bruce has insisted that he was only playing with viewers and is in possession of all his mental faculties.
‘It was supposed to be a gag,’ the 85 year old said.
He added: ‘I delivered the lines slowly because that was how the joke should be delivered and the audience thought it was funny.’
‘I think people expect me to be going senile. I realise I’m probably the only 85-year-old man on TV doing live shows several hours a week for weeks on end but I’m still sharp.’
Bruce thinks he’s been a success and at the top of his game for so long, because he always choose family friendly shows.
‘The audiences that have grown up with me have stayed with me,’ he told The Mirror.
‘I may not be edgy or too clever with a lot of things I say because I have to keep to a narrow path that pleases a family audience, from kids of five to grandparents of 90.’
Meanwhile, former Strictly Come Dancing winner Harry Judd has blasted bosses on the show for axing some of the best known professional dancers this year and replacing them with new performers.
Aliona Vilani, Erin Boag, Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace were all dropped from the Strictly lineup earlier this year, although Aliona won a second chance when Natalie Lowe broke her ankle and she now partners golf legend Tony Jacklin.
The McFly singer, who won in 2011, told the newspaper:
“Viewers get to know and love the stars so it was silly to get rid of the dancers this time for new ones we don’t know.
“I’ve no idea who some of these dancers are now or why bosses alter things the way they do. There was some amazing talent when I won.”
“I was especially upset for Aliona when she went. She was incredible. She’s back now but I don’t know why they got rid of her in the first place.”
