Kristina Rihanoff is keen to avoid any tension on this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing and so she’s reached out to the wife of her new dance partner.
The blonde beauty has been paired with rugby hunk Ben Cohen on this year’s series of the BBC dance show, however it’s well known that she got together with boxing champ Joe Calzaghe after performing with him a few years ago, so she wanted to put Ben’s wife at ease from very early on.
Ben and Kristina have been meeting for daily rehearsals ever since their partnership was announced, but Cohen’s wife of ten years has been a frequent visitor to the practice studio too and Rihanoff told The Mirror:
“Abbie and I had a proper chat and that was really sweet.
“I invited her along to a rehearsal. I told her ‘You’re more than welcome to come at any time, with the kids’.
“I don’t want her to feel threatened by me, I want to make sure she is there for the both of us.
“To me it’s important that we have her support, because then Ben will feel more confident and comfortable dancing.”
Reaching out was the right thing to do and it put Kristina and Abbie on a nice footing going forward. The rest of the series should be easier for the two women now and the dancer revealed that Abbie texted her recently with a lovely message.
Kristina said: “Abbie sent me the most beautiful text, saying ‘I’m there for you guys if you need any help’.”
“Ben’s a family man, which I think is absolutely brilliant. It’s important to make the partners feel part of the journey and not to isolate them from our little world.”
It’s all stepping up a gear today for the dancers as the live shows begin tomorrow night and dress rehearsals in the TV studio will run all day today.
Cohen tweeted about his plans this morning saying:
He’s on his second routine already and tweted a few days ago saying:
Kristina might have done it all before but she’s still feeling pretty psyched and added:
