Strictly Come Dancing 2013 Live Shows: Julien Macdonald’s Samba lacked any spice or hip action, but it was fun!

by Nick Barnes

Julien Macdonald seems to be the cat with nine lives on this year’s series of the show as he survives to dance another week. This evening, the fashion designer and his professional partner Janette Manrara danced the Samba to the Spice Girls’ Spice Up Your Life.

Julien said he was looking forward to the show on Saturday, he loved the dance and the song, but the comments weren’t the best. However, this week, he is SO happy to be dancing a Spice Girls song. Although, the only problem is… he can’t remember the steps. Let’s up he can spice up his routine this week…

Last week, Julien & Janette scored a total of 22. Craig said he looked like a three year old at a dance recital, but Bruno loved it, telling it was full of “whacky attitude”.

Julien was dressed in a very colourful attire this week, with added sparkles, but with a Spice Girls song, what can you expect? But, the dance lacked any sort of spice, unfortunately. I don’t think dancing is really Julien’s forte. However, it was fun, which is what Julien does brilliantly.

Judges Comments

  • Len Goodman: “You come out and attacked the dance, but it needed more control. The dynamic was brilliant”.
  • Bruno Tonioli: “Definitely high on spice. You were all of them at once. The thing is, you threw yourself into it. You put everything you can into it, but if you stay on, you have to go with the music. The worst thing is your timing”.
  • Craig Revel Horwood: “There was no rotation at all, this dance should flow and have motor, there should be a steady thing, but you lack musicality”.
  • Darcey Bussell: “It was certainly fun, you tried really hard and you were in sync more or less all way through. It was your best dance”.

Both Julien & Janette received a combined score of 23 with a 4 from Craig Revel Horwood, a 6 from Darcey Bussell, a 7 from Len Goodman and a 6 from Bruno Tonioli.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7:15pm on BBC One.
