This evening, Mark Benton and Iveta Lukosiute took to the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor for the first time.
The pair danced the Tango to Hernando’s Hideaway by Alma Cogan. They danced it really well and had very high praise from the judges.
“One of the reasons to do Strictly is to get fit and lose some weight. It was a complete shock to be partnered with Iveta. She is really funny,” he said.
“When Iveta is doing it, she makes it look so simple. There’s so much to it. I’m going to get it even if it kills me… which it probably will,” he joked.
At the launch show of the current series, Mark Denton told us that he was really looking forward to taking part on the show, and it looks like he enjoyed himself in the spotlight this evening.
Bruno Tonioli told the pair: “I love the way you set the scene. They’re right, you had so much content in there. You cannot step it, you have to drive through the foot, have the proud attitude… don’t hide it!”
Darcey Bussell added: “Just brilliantly played, you’re going to be the most brilliant entertainer for us. I was worried in the beginning, but you had the hold, you were strong and masculine and you was in control of your woman”.
“To be honest, I thought it was going to be like a sneeze… you know it’s coming but there’s nothing you can do about it. I’m telling you I am shocked how good that was!” Len Goodman told them.
Revel Horwood added: “The Tango should be sharp, it should have intent and purpose – that is what you had. However, you are picking up your feet and jumping backward and forward which is not great. Hands need some administration but you danced it rather well”.
Mark and Iveta received a combined score of 24 with a 6 from Bruno, a 6 from Darcey, a 7 from Len Goodman and a 5 from Craig Revel Horwood.
Speaking about his first live dance of the series, Mark joked: “My mouth is so dry!”
Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7pm with the second live show of the series on BBC One/HD.
