This evening, Vanessa Feltz took to the Strictly dance floor for the first time with her professional partner, James Jordan.

Tonight, Vanessa & James danced the Cha Cha to Shania Twain’s That Don’t Impress Me Much… and it didn’t impress Craig Revel Horwood much either! But, what does impress him? However, it was all a little too safe, not much content, nothing technical… it lacked any enthusiasm. It certainly didn’t impress me much.

In her VT, Vanessa said: “I’m going to be a grandma and it made sense for me to do Strictly for everyone of a certain age. When I heard James was going to be my partner, I felt magnificent.”.

“The only thing I expect is that I am in charge! I think I’m going to get put in my place quite a lot,” joked James.

Vanessa has been working herself hard in rehearsals but she didn’t get the dance right away… she even insisted that she wanted a body double to cha cha with James this week!

Bruno Tonioli said: “You tried so hard to get it right you lose the va-va-vanessa! Your body has to express the same way as your voice does, we need the impact”.

Len Goodman added: “It was a bit cool, calm and collected, it lacked a crash, bang and wallop. Having said that, you never lost your timing and you got through it with no glaring mistaes”.

Darcy Bussell told the pair: “The Cha Cha is bright and lively. I did miss this, but I think there will always be one dance that doesn’t suit you. This is one… but I believe when you come back next week you will love it”.

“It’s ashame you don’t dance as well as you speak. Too much acting and not enough dancing,” added Craig Revel Horwood.

Speaking about her first dance of the series, Vanessa told Tess Daly: “I can talk, but I can’t dance. I thought we did alright. I tried to keep breathing and not fall over”.

In total, Vanessa and James scored 19 with a 3 from Craig Revel Horwood, a 5 from Darcey Bussell, a 6 from Len Goodman and a 5 from Bruno Toniloi.

This week, no couples will be leaving the competition. The judges scores will be carried across to next week’s show in which two celebrity couples will be given the boot.

Strictly Come Dancing continues next Saturday on BBC One/HD.
