Strictly Come Dancing 2013: Mark Benton wins praise for his ‘technical’ Lion King-inspired Samba

by Nick Barnes

Strictly Come Dancing Mark Benton
This evening, Mark Benton and his professional partner Iveta Lukosuite took to the dance floor to perform the Samba to The Lion King’s ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’.

Mark said that he loved last week’s dance as there were no gimmicks and he was also shocked when he was saved by Len last week. As a treat and to get him int he mood for this week’s dance, he was taken to watch the Lion King at the West End.

Last week, the pair scored a total of 28 points with Craig telling him that literally everything was missing from the performance. Darcey said that he always makes her smile but his flow needs to be worked on.

Tonight saw the return of the gimmicks once again with both Iveta and Mark dressed as some weird Lions… but, if Len has anything to do with it, Mark will be safe again this week, unfortunately. The dance wasn’t technically on point and was more of a fun/entertaining spectacle.

Judges Comments

  • Craig Revel Horwood: “Full of shimmy’s, full of rhythm, full of camp, but it was a bit flat footed. It was technically your best to date”.
  • Darcey Bussell: “I mean, sadly the ability to be able to bounce for you isn’t the easiest, but you are still the cheekiest king”.
  • Len Goodman: “I tell you what, you are just a rest, big bindle of joy to watch”.
  • Bruno Tonioli: “You’re a pussycat of a lion – your squeeze every announce of performance action out of every dance”.

Mark & Iveta received a combined score of 29 with a 7 from Craig, a 7 from Darcey, a 7 from Len and an 8 from Bruno.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7:20pm with the all important results show.
