Dave Myers has become the latest star to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2013 this evening. Awwwwww.
Last night’s main show was full of plenty of sequins, tan and drama as Claudia Winkleman stepped into Bruce Forsyth’s shoes and co-hosted the sparkly episode with her pal Tess Daly.
The ladies presided over proceedings as the remaining nine couples performed in a desperate bid to impress judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, and the of course the voting public at home.
There was drama as just minutes before the live show started, it was confirmed that Natalie Gumede would not be performing on the Strictly Come Dancing instalment. The Coronation Street actress was taken to hospital after she fainted during both pre-show rehearsals and it’s thought a previous back injury may be causing the star trouble.
She was not eliminated from the series though and will be back next Saturday, as long as her medical situation has improved.
Tonight it was Hairy Biker Dave Myers and his partner Karen Hauer; and actor Mark Benton and his partner Iveta Lukosiute, who found themselves in the bottom two, facing the dance-off as their voting results were combined with the leaderboard scores.
Neither star did well last night in terms of judges’ feedback and marks and it seems their voting results were just as disappointing.
Both couples then performed their routines again; Dave and Karen threw their all into a Tango to ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ by The Proclaimers, and Mark and Iveta brought their inner passion to a Rumba to ‘Goldfinger’ by Shirley Bassey.
The judges then gave their verdict on who they wanted to stay and who should conclude their time in the competition.
Craig Revel Horwood said: “I would like to save the better mover, and the better mover in my opinion is Mark and Iveta.”
Darcey Bussell said: “I found it incredibly difficult to choose because they both did a better performance and I’ve fallen in love with both of them, but it comes down to the couple, (I choose) Mark and Iveta.”
Bruno Tonioli said: “Well I have to say, apart from my job as a judge, both of you gave us so much entertainment I really do appreciate everything you have done. It’s been wonderful, but I have to save the couple that have engaged me the most tonight, being Mark and Iveta.”
However, head judge Len Goodman disagreed with his co stars and although Dave was the dancer going home, he told the chef that he would have liked to see him getting another chance.
“I didn’t agree with my colleagues here. I felt with both couples that nerves took over a little bit, Dave you missed out one little step on the outside swivel, but I thought Mark, you had a lot of mistakes going on throughout that dance and if it had come down to me I would have saved you Dave.”
Looking back at his time on the show, Dave said:
“I’ve had the time of my life Tess, I mean I’ve met some wonderful friends, but everything is down to our Karen. I did come to this having never danced before, well only planted my feet and banged my head. The first dancing lesson is a bit like having your first driving lesson but they give you a Ferrari, so you’re bound to crunch the gears, but she’s still in one piece.”
“I think with her and Kevin, myself and my wife, we’ve just made the most wonderful friends. I would like to thank everyone at Strictly, including all of the professional dancers who’ve embraced us lot. The wonderful thing about Strictly, it’s democratic, the public have a say, the professionals have a say and everybody looks out for everybody else and I’ve loved every minute.”
Karen added: “Ah Dave, I love you. You’ve given everything and I thank you for that because every day you’ve given 100% – I love you.”
Sunday’s Results show featured a performance from The Tenors, singing ‘Forever Young’.
Next week Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday 16th November at 6.30pm and will be live from Blackpool! Are you excited? Did you agree with tonight’s results? Leave your comments below…
