Professional golfer Tony Jacklin and his professional partner Aliona Vilani have become the first couple to be given the boot from this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Last week, Tony and Aliona finished bottom of the leader board with 16 points. However, the pair only managed to score 13 points this week after dancing a “limp and lame” Charleston, subsequently sending them to the bottom once again.
After Tony danced the Charleston last night, Craig Revel Horwood told him: “The Charleston should be lively and energetic. Yours was limp, lame and lackluster. There wasn’t an ounce of swivel in that. The timing, you was getting ahead of yourself”.
For the first time this series, the lines opened last night and Tony & Aliona and fashion designer Julien Macdonald & Janette Manrara ended up in the dreaded dance off.
After trying to impress the judges with the second dance of the weekend, it was revealed that Tony was to be the first celebrity to be given the strictly boot.
Head judge, Len Goodman told him: “Tony, you’ve been one of my golfing heroes all my life. Sadly I have to say I would have gone with Julien and Janette, but you’re still one of my heroes”.
Reflecting on his time on the show, Tony added: “I’m a tough pupil. Aliona is a wonderful teacher. I’m going to stick to golf I think. I have enjoyed myself, it’s been a glimpse into another world which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I had no concept of the work that goes into this, and the work ethic that these girls have. I did my best.”
But, it isn’t all doom and gloom as Tony can now jet off back to sunny Florida and enjoy a well deserved rest.
Next week, Strictly Come Dancing will return with the first of its themed weeks. The theme is Love Week, in which the remaining 14 couples will dance to impress the judges and the audience at home.
On Sunday, one more couple will be ejected from the competition.
Strictly Come Dancing 2013 continues on Saturday, October 12 at 6:30pm and the results show will air on Sunday, October 13 at 7:20pm on BBC One/HD.
