The penultimate performance of the evening came from Matt Goss and his professional partner Aliona Vilani. Matt Goss shot to fame in the 80s in a group alongside his twin brother and since, he’s been all over the world as a solo artist. More impressively, he’s headlined Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for the past five years doing around 120 shows a year. Tonight, Matt will be dancing the American Smooth.
In his VT, Matt said that his family watch Strictly every year and his mum will be over the moon that she can watch one her boys on the show. As he is so busy in Las Vegas, Aliona had to go over and meet Matt to do some of the training. It’s safe to say that bossy Aliona came out with Matt.
Aliona looked rather fetching this evening in a fur shawl-type garment over the top of a stunning turquoise dress. Matt was also looking very dapper in his tux. Matt may well be a brilliant singer, but he’s also a bit of a dancer as well. He moved well across the dance floor and managed the lifts perfectly.
- Craig Revel Horwood: “You were driving the pivots a little too hard, your shoulders needed pulling back, but that aside, the lifts were great and it was very classy”.
- Darcey Bussell: “I love the dynamics you gave that American Smooth. All you needed to do was keep that Charisma going and finish those lines, but it was very beautiful”.
- Len Goodman: “That wasn’t Matt, that was Gloss. It was very suave and sophisticated. You lost your posture a little bit but you danced it nicely”.
- Bruno Tonioli: “I loved the whole look – it was like Christmas at the Ritz. You moved very, very well”.
In total, Matt & Aliona received a total score of 35 with an 8 from Craig, a 9 from Darcey, a 9 from Len and a 9 from Bruno.
