We’re just about half way through the dances already this evening. Next up is Rochelle Humes and professional partner Ian Waite. Rochelle is best known as a member of girl group, The Saturdays and she is of course married to JLS member, Marvin Humes. Tonight, she is dancing the Salsa.
In her VT, Rochelle said that everyone thinks she will be okay on the show as she does a lot of dancing as part of The Saturdays, but Strictly is totally different to what they do. “I didn’t think that 6/7 months after having a baby, I’d be trying to dance the Salsa”. Rochelle says she hopes she wins, but the most important thing is staying on her feet.
Rochelle kicked off the dance stood on a podium in the middle of the dancefloor as a wind up dancer. Ian had to find the key and wind her up before she started to dance. The lifts were impressive, but the footwork was a tad dodgy, but overall, it was a nice performance.
- Craig Revel Horwood: “It was a little bit all over the toy shop, I’m afraid. Smoother transitions and that haphazard kick thing. Me and Bruno were gasping darling. But, you went for it and that’s the good thing”.
- Darcey Bussell: “Rochelle, that was certainly a cracker of a Salsa. It was full of energy, sometimes slightly wild with the footwork but you made it very tricky. You handled it very well”
- Len Goodman: “I don’t know about Santa Claus coming to town – you certainly came to town. It was like a party popper, there were bits flying everywhere and just like a party popper, it got a little bit messy”.
- Bruno Tonioli: “It was inebriating and full of spirit like a Christmas tipple, but as you know with a Christmas tipple, you have to be careful because you can get a little light headed”.
In total, Rochelle & Ian received a total score of 31 with a 7 from Craig, an 8 from Darcey, an 8 from Len and an 8 from Bruno.
