Strictly Come Dancing: Gary Rhodes Jives Off!

The male celebs all danced their hearts out last night, but which one just didn’t cut the rug well enough and will be going home? Let’s find out!

Last night, Gary scored the lowest with just 18 points and felt he should’ve done better. He really doesn’t want to go tonight because he’s desperate to learn ballroom.

Andrew and John shared joint fifth place last night with 22 points each. Andrew hoped that the public liked the fact that he was ‘trying to entertain’ but his wife Sophia feared that he’d be in the dance off tonight.

John said that he’d bee determined to enjoy the dance last night and he joked that there was a ‘raw sexuality’ to it.

Mark got fourth place with 24 points. His mum Sheila felt that Mark needs ‘a few nice comments’ to boost his confidence but he himself felt he’d improved a lot.

Don got third place with 30 points and was ‘over the moon with most of the performance.’

Tom got second place with 33 points and his fiancée Claire felt he’d done amazingly well.

Austin achieved first place 34 points. His wife Louise thought he’d been amazing, even though he ‘looked a bit orange’!

Bruce asked the judges how they’d felt the boys did overall last night and Len said that certain dances suit certain people so we might not have seen the best of the boys yet. Arlene said that for the boys, ‘this year is like a game of snakes and ladders’ with Tom and Austin at the top and the other boys desperately climbing the ladder. Bruno commented that Gary had been having a hard time but he thinks he may be ‘a master of the ballroom’ so if he stays in, we might get to see it. Craig remarked that Tom and Austin are the ‘front runners but they have to watch out for don because he’s a very real threat.’

Next week the girls will be performing either a rumba or a quickstep, so to show them how the rumba is done, the professional dancers performed a flawless and impressive demo dance with lots of high kicks and low dips as well as complex spins and clinches.

After that amazing dance, Tess told the girls that the rumba is a ‘very romantic dance’ and asked Lisa how she’d cope with it. Lisa said that she may try to imagine she’s in love with Brendan and she hopes her nerves won’t get the better of her next week!

Next, Flavia and Vincent performed a stunning dance together to the classic love song, Endless Love. Flavia wore a fairytale dress of silk and diamante with long flowing ribbons of fabric. Then, it was time for the girls to perform their group swing dance again which was every bit as good as it was last night.

Rugby star Will Greenwood then joined Bruce for a chat. Will thought that the ‘big lads’ of rugby struggle with the dances sometimes but he felt that Austin was doing an outstanding job. Kate Garraway also had a chat with Bruce and was very sporting in taking the mickey out of herself for being bottom of the leaderboard almost every week last year, but she did urge everyone to support Andrew who she said was ‘working so hard.’

Anton then joined Tess to tell her how upset he’d been for Gillian when she left and said that he’d felt ‘inconsolable.’ However, we learned that hee has a new dancing partner… Tess! They’re going to be dancing for Children In Need and Tess reckons it’ll be Anton’s biggest challenge yet, but he says they’ll be ‘marvellous.’

Next, world renowned opera singer Andrea Botticelli made a guest appearance and Anton and Erin danced as he sang. It was a stunning performance, from both Andrea and the dancers and they received a standing ovation from the audience and judges.

So now it was time for the two couples with the lowest combined scores to dance again and this week, those couples were Mark and Hayley and Gary and Karen.

Mark and Hayley danced their tango again first, followed by Gary and Karen performing their jive and so the judges then voted for who they wanted to keep in the competition.

Craig voted to keep Mark and Hayley, as did Arlene and Bruno so without needing a vote from Len – although he said he did agree with the judges – Gary and Karen are out of the competition.

They took it very well although Gary was disappointed that he wouldn’t get to do ballroom dancing, but he said he’d do it all again. He and Karen danced their last dance to the classic song, Midnight Train to Georgia.

So next week it’s the ladies turn again with either a rumba or a quickstep. How will they get on? Join us next week for catch ups and highlights.
