Strictly Come Dancing: Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Viennese Waltz was full of “style” and “confidence”

Strictly Come Dancing Sophie Ellis-Bextor

This evening, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her professional partner Brendan Cole danced the Viennese Waltz to the Sound of Music classic ‘My Favourite Things’ by Julie Andrews.

In training this week, Sophie said that she tried to forget anyone else was in the room last week as she wanted more of a connection with Brendan. This week, it’s musicals week and she can’t wait for it.

Last week, Sophie and Brendan scored a total of 31 points with Craig telling her he found the dance a “bit cold” whilst Len said that it was a “pretty dance” but it didn’t have “enough chemistry”.

Sophie looked amazing in her white flowing dress this evening and as promised, the Viennese Waltz was very spinney. Technically, a very good dance from Sophie.

Judges Comments

  • Craig Revel Horwood: “Your arms need a bit more tone when you’re out of hold and you lost your neck on occasion. But, absolutely brilliant”.
  • Darcey Bussell: “Sophie, I feel dizzy watching you. Your style was stunning and those fast, beautiful pivots as well. Just watch the back of your next, but a classic Viennese Waltz”.
  • Len Goodman: “My favourite things in the Viennese Waltz are rotation, your pivots were everywhere and with the speed of it you lost a bit of toning in your left.”
  • Bruno Tonioli: “Oh yes! The hills are alive with the vision of beauty. I like the purity of the style of the Viennese Waltz and you kept the rotation going. You had the style and the confidence. Don’t doubt yourself in the latin side”.

Sophie & Brendan received a combined score of 36 with a 9 from Craig, a 9 from Darcey, a 9 from Len and a 9 from Bruno.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7:20pm with the all important results show.

Sophie’s dance was the clear best of the evening. Deserved at least a couple of 10’s from the judges. The 40 for Abbey’s “non-Salsa” was ridiculous.

Sophie and Brendan for the win!!!!
