Waterloo Road actor Mark Benton was the subject of a good deal of abuse from some viewers of Strictly Come Dancing during his time on the show last year after he was repeatedly saved from being axed by both the judges and the viewer votes…
Some fans reckons that Mark was a “joke” on the show, and were angered that he staying the contest while other arguably more talented dancers left.
However, the lovely Mark refused to let the often nasty and cutting remarks from viewers get to him, and by the time he eventually did leave the competition, he was one of the best-loved stars and was signed up for the show’s live tour.
And while speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Mark’s promised that his performances on the tour will be “mad!”
He said, “We’re doing MC Hammer, definitely [and] the cha-cha is the favourite. We’re just trying to figure out which is the other dance we’ll do.
“But I’m so excited about doing it, it’s going to be mad.”
Part of the tour’s list of dates includes performances in Liverpool, and as Mark explained, it’s not the first time he’s worked in the city.
He said, “We had great audiences [in Liverpool] when we did Hairspray.
“It was one of the places on tour that the audiences just went bonkers.
“So hopefully that’s a precursor to what’s going to happen on the Strictly tour.
“I was in one of the arenas the other day and I got a real rush of adrenalin when I saw just how big it was.”
Also joining Mark on the tour are last year’s contestants Susanna Reid, Natalie Gumede, Ben Cohen, Deborah Meaden, Nicky Byrne and of course, Abbey Clancy who won the show.
Finally, while talking about working with his SCD pro-dance partner Iveta Lukosiute, Mark said, “Oh, I wouldn’t have done it if I wasn’t dancing with her…
“You go on the journey together, so it’s got to be Iveta or it would be weird.
“And also, she has been so brilliant, and it’s been tough for her to choreograph for me because I couldn’t do lifts and things.
“So it’s only right we do it together.”
Here’s a reminder of Mark on the show…
