Strictly Come Dancing – Tonight’s Review
This week, the male celebs took centre stage and had to perform either a jive or tango.
Austin and Erin
The first couple up tonight were Austin and Erin. Austin said during rehearsals that doing Strictly was the scariest thing he’s ever done but his dad came to join them in practice and he seemed to put Austin at ease, as well as demonstrating a wonderful jive!
When they were dancing, I thought Austin and Erin had some amazing chemistry going on… I wonder if there’s something there we don’t yet know about??
During their dance, Austin performed brilliantly. He was light on his feet and had perfect rhythm, but what did the judges think?
Len said it was a high energy performance and Austin did fantastically he said. He joked that he’d found it a little off-putting when Austin winked at him!
Bruno said that Austin pumped and rode the dance ‘with devilish confidence’ and he was very impressed.
Arlene said Austin had set the standard for the other boys and said, ‘beat that if you can’.
Scores: Craig, 8. Arlene, 8, Len, 9, Bruno, 9 totalling 34.
Mark and Hayley
Next up were Mark and Hayley who were performing a tango. During the dance, Mark looked somewhat wooden and he lacked rhythm, probably because he was concentrating so hard, bless him.
Len said that it was a sharp and aggressive dance that was not suited to tall people and he thought it became rather ‘long winded’.
Bruno said that the dance wasn’t stunning and that Mark had to try to ‘deliver the goods’.
Craig commented that Mark had vastly improved but he looked ‘mincey’.
Arlene remarked that it should have been a passionate performance and it wasn’t and Mark showed no charisma.
Scores: Craig, 5, Arlene, 5, Len, 7, Bruno, 7, for a total of 24.
Gary and Karen
The next couple were Gary and Karen performing a jive. Gary looked very stiff during the dance and it seemed his nerves were getting the better of him. However, the judges comments weren’t all bad.
Arlene said there was plenty of enthusiasm but that Gary must stop counting the steps and feel the rhythm. She also thought that his footwork was ‘flat’.
Len said that Gary’s footwork was very good and that he delivered a ‘lovely start’ but lost the timing. He did a very good job considering the stress he was under, said Len.
Bruno said that their jive had ‘more holes than surface of the moon.’ Gary lost count and ‘should stop counting and just listen to the music’ Bruno said.
Craig said he was praying for Gary but that there were a few problems; one being a ‘hunch back and lurching neck’ and then, ‘flatfootedness.’ However, Craig said the dance was ‘not complete disaster.’
Scores: Craig, 3, Arlene, 4, Len, 6, Bruno, 5, for a total of 18.
John and Kristina
John and Kristina were next with a tango. John’s a lovely man, full of charm and likeability and his dance was not technically remarkable but it was lovely!
Bruno said that, John looked like a ‘dad after a couple of pints’ but he ‘made it work.’ He said their dance was the opposite to what the tango should be, but it worked.
Craig said that John was ‘way too nice for this dance’, and added that John’s posture wasn’t right and that he needs more attitude; too ‘softly softly’ was Craig’s opinion.
Arlene said the dance began with drama and she remarked that John seemed to enjoy it too much!
Len commented that dancing’s about enjoying it and John ‘obviously enjoyed it.’ He added, ‘When you get to a certain age, your posture’s always poor. Well done.’
Scores: Craig, 3, Arlene, 6, Len, 6, and Bruno, 7, for a total of 22.
Andrew and Ola
Next up were Andrew and Ola performing a tango. The dance was – I thought – rather embarrassing, with an especially awkward head banging moment from Andrew.
Craig said that he admired Andrew’s courage but his dance just ‘seemed to go downhill’ and added that one of Andrew’s biggest problems was that his bottom sticks out.
Arlene said that the first rule of dance was to stand straight, which Andrew hadn’t done, and she remarked that she’d never seen head banging in a tango before!
Len said that Andrew wasn’t an actor and but he’d come out and ‘showed drama and passion’. He did say though that he didn’t like the head bang and agreed that he has a problem with his bottom but all in all, ‘A jolly good try!’
Bruno said the dance was painful to watch. Andrew was off on his footwork and Bruno didn’t like the dance he said.
Scores: Craig, 4, Arlene, 6, Len, 7, Bruno, 5 for a total of 22.
Tom and Camilla
Tom and Camilla were next with a jive. Arlene said, ‘let the sparring begin!’. She thought it was a very good dance overall. Len said ‘don’t worry about chasing Austin – you’re right their with him’
Craig commented that it was a much better performance but that it needed more energy in the flicks and kicks. Len disagreed but Bruno said that the dance ‘lacked energy.’
The judges scored as follows; Craig, 7, Arlene, 8, Len, 9, Bruno, 9, for a total of 33.
Don and Lilia danced next with a tango. Don looked very studious throughout the dance I thought!
Bruno said he ‘could feel the drama’ and that the ‘blood was flowing’.
Craig remarked that Lilia was fantastic and that Don did brilliantly.
Arlene said that the tango was like a tug of war; ‘masterful and very, very exciting’,
Len said that, two weeks ago, Don was nearly kicked off but that tonight, Don was ‘menacing’ and said, ‘well done!’.
Scores: Craig, 7, Arlene, 7, Len, 8, Bruno, 8 for a total of 30.
Then it was time for the girls to perform their swing dance which was phenomenal. Len said that it was the ‘best group dance of any of the Strictlys’. For him, James Jordan’s new short haircut stood uot while Bruno said that the girls took to swing like ‘ducks to water’. Craig thought that Jodie needs more work and Arlene said that Jessie did very well and didn’t put a foot wrong.
So now, it’s all up to us! Which two couples will have to perform again in tomorrow’s dance-off? I really don’t know this week. Which couples do you think will face elimination tomorrow?
