TV Critic Richard Arnold makes his Strictly Come Dancing 2012 debut

Richard Arnold got a brilliant introduction from Brucie on Strictly Come Dancing when he was described as someone who watches people doing their best and then criticises them for it! Well, tonight that’s our job!
And what did we think of Richard’s first appearance on Strictly? Decked out in suit and tails, he seemed every inch the gentleman, but his routine seemed to lack the spark that Sid Owen gave to his waltz earlier in the evening. At points, Richard seemed to be counting the steps, the concentration etched into his face!As you’ll see from the judges’ comments, the fearsome foursome were all equally a little bit disappointed, especially Bruno, who took the opportunity to have some critical fun of his own with Richard…
What the judges said
- Bruno Tonioli: What happened to you? I was expecting a campfest. Are you trying to be butch? It was a bit boring, your personality didn’t shine through. It looked like you were on valium.
- Craig Revel Horwood: I can’t agree with Bruno, I actually thought the smile was very nice. Your transitions are a little bit lumpy.
- Darcey Bussell: I missed the real Richard in that performance.
- Len Goodman: This is a waltz, it’s got very very strict technique. Your footwork was the best I’ve seen. Okay, there were moments where it could’ve been better, but that’s the same for everybody tonight.
