Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber says “I killed Elvis!” Erm, ok…

As we reported yesterday, the work of Andrew Lloyd Webber is to be celebrated in a special evening of songs from his hit musicals which is entitled, Andrew Lloyd Webber 40 Musical Years. It airs on ITV at 6.30pm…

However, ahead of it, Webber has made the rather astonishing claim that he was responsible for the death of ‘The King’, Elvis Presley!

The Daily Star reports, “The composer, nicknamed ‘The Lord’, wrote It’s Easy For You in 1977 for Elvis.

“And it turned out to be the last track that the rock ’n roll legend ever recorded for his album Moody Blue, as he died in August that year aged 42.” Read more & comment »

There’s a real treat in store for fans of hit musicals this Easter weekend when, on Sunday night, ITV will air Andrew Lloyd Webber: 40 Musical Years, which starts at 6.30pm.

We have preview pictures and a clip for you after the jump, and as you’ll see, some of the biggest names in music are lined up to perform, including Denise Van Outen, Kimberley Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger, Il Divo, Myleene Klass and lots more.

Jesus Christ Superstar: Tim Minchin & Chris Moyles want Mel C to be more of a d*ck!

The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar have been moaning about how very nice Mel C is to work with.

We would have thought that the stars of the show would love working with someone as kind and gentle as the former Spice Girl but Tim Minchin and Chris Moyles have revealed that they would be more comfortable acting out and making ridiculous demands from bosses, if the singer was a little bit more of a diva.

I Know Him So Well: Spice Girls Mel C & Emma Bunton duet – but is she struggling to hit the high notes?

Mel C has gone all musical after her stint on Superstar recently and is slap bang in the middle of recording her latest solo album.

The Spice Girl enjoyed a bit of a reunion with her old group at the Olympic closing ceremony last week but it wasn’t the first time she had sang with one of the ladies this year.

It turns out that former Dancing On Ice judge Emma Bunton has been lending her vocals to Mel’s latest West End inspired album ‘Stages’ and we have a clip of the pair harmonising with each other on the track ‘I Know Him So Well.’

After Superstar flopped Andrew Lloyd Webber will be steering clear of reality TV shows – but ITV want more of Dawn French!

Andrew Lloyd Webber has reportedly decided not to venture down the reality TV route again, after his latest series ‘Superstar’ attracted such poor ratings.

The composer agreed to conduct a search for an actor and singer who could take on the lead role in his hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ on ITV this summer, having previously aired all his other series’ on BBC One.

However, while former runs have attracted in excess of six millions viewers per week, ‘Superstar’ struggled to top the three million mark on many nights.

The show ended on Wednesday, and Ben Forster won the role of a lifetime but insiders say Lloyd Webber is now done with the TV route. One told The Daily Mail:

Superstar concluded it’s search to find a great rock talent to play the title role of Jesus in the first ever UK arena tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s – Jesus Christ Superstar this evening and it was a tense and action packed show.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, Dawn French, Melanie C and Jason Donovan watched on as Ben Forster, Roger Wright and Rory Taylor battled it out to win the role of a lifetime.

Show highlights:

 Ben Forster was chosen to play the role of Jesus in the UK arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar by the British public
 Roger came third and Rory came second in the public vote
 Melanie C performed I Don’t How To Love Him from the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack, Andrew Lloyd Webber accompanied her playing the piano

Superstar: Now David Hunter’s gone, the remaining finalists Rory, Ben and Roger can’t wait for the show to end!

As fans of Superstar will know, David Hunter left the contest last night, which leaves just three remaining hopefuls, Rory Taylor, Ben Forster and Roger Wright, and it seems all three are now desperate for the show to end so that they can get back to some semblance of normality.

Because of course, for two months now, the Jesus wannabes have been away from their partners and families, and it seems that the separations are becoming hard to bear.

Rory, who’s dating Jess Broadbere, told TV Biz, “My girlfriend has been brilliant, really understanding.

Superstar aired it’s semi final last night and once more, one hopeful left the series and was denied the chance to play the title role of Jesus in the first ever UK arena tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s – Jesus Christ Superstar.

Judges Andrew Lloyd Webber, Dawn French, Melanie C and Jason Donovan watched on as the public decision was played out on stage and as the last few contestants battled it out for the role of a lifetime.

 David and Rory were in the bottom two and sang for their survival
 Andrew Lloyd Webber chose to save Rory and David was eliminated

Superstar returned to ITV1 last night, to contnue in it’s search to find a great rock talent to play the title role of Jesus in the first ever UK arena tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s – Jesus Christ Superstar.

Judges are Andrew Lloyd Webber, Dawn French, Melanie C and Jason Donovan watched on as the remaining few hopefuls sang their heart out, in the hope of landing the role of a lifetime.

Superstar: Nathan James “read the riot act” for reducing production staff to tears!

It seems that Jesus wannabe Nathan James – who is one of just five remaining finalists on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s talent quest show Superstar – is earning a reputation as a right diva backstage…

But what’s more, he’s apparently been so nasty to some of the production crew that Superstar’s bosses have “read him the riot act” over the weekend.

The Sun reports that Nathan reduced a female member of the production team to tears last week when he lambasted her for not ensuring enough seats in the audience were reserved for his family and friends.

He also apparently screamed at the show’s make-up artists, telling them, “Never touch the hair!”

One unnamed source at the show said, “He must think he already is Jesus to be getting away with this sort of stuff… Read more & comment »
