Andrew Lloyd Webber to quit TV after Superstar? Mel C is impressed by all the eye candy!

Andrew Lloyd Webber has admitted that he may give up on TV after the current series of Superstar, as he wants to return to his original job.

The ‘Cats’ composer is currently searching for a male singer to star in the new arena tour of his rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, as part of an ITV series and the show premiered last night.

We saw familiar faces such as Jonathan Ansell and Nathan James singing for the judges – Mel C, Jason Donovan and David Grindod – at the callbacks and later this month the finalists will perform on the live TV shows for the public vote.

However once the series comes to an end in August, Lloyd Webber may put his TV career behind him and return to writing musicals.

He told The Sun:

“It isn’t my day job. My day job really is to get back and write a musical, that’s what I have to do next.

“It’s time for me to have a new show because by the time it gets on the stage, there will have been quite a gap since my last show, Love Never Dies.

“So I think I’m ready to write again rather than necessarily do another TV. But it’s nice to be asked.”

Mel C presided over the auditions but will be replaced on the live shows by actress and comedienne Dawn French. The former Spice Girl will go on to take on the role of Mary Magdalene in the stage production and revealed that so far, she has been incredibly impressed by the level of talent she has seen in the hopefuls.

She explained:

“It is very much talent-driven. It is about the show, it is about the boys.

“I was always ambitious, but they are more focused than I was at their age.

“We’ve got a couple of Jack the lads, of course, but it all adds to the mix and it will be interesting to see how they get on if they don’t pull their socks up.

“And we’ve got some real lookers. We were really enjoying the eye-candy yesterday.”

Superstar continues tonight, on ITV1. What do you think of the series so far? Leave your comments below….
