Jonathan Ansell makes it to Superstar Island and sandal camp but sent home when he wouldn’t take direction from an acting coach!
Jonathan Ansell unsurprisingly made it through to Superstar Island, as we saw on tonight’s second episode of the ITV series.
Last night the G4 star was seen auditioning for Mel C, Jason Donovan and David Grindod and was told that he may not be put through to the next stage because he was already contracted to another musical production.
Shockingly – or not if you watched Ryan O’Shaughnessy on Britain’s Got Talent – somehow ITV got him out of his contract and he was invited to attend bootcamp – or sandal camp as we like to call it – with almost 100 other hopeful Jesus’.
He told Amanda Holden:
‘I managed to resolved it, it’s the ultimate role for a high tenor to play. It’s scary having been through this process before but I’m determined.’
However, far from being elated and grateful to be there, Ansell came across like a petulant child when he attended his acting masterclass with Donna Soto-Morettini.
As he sang she criticised his acting of the lyrics and when he sang about the woman of his dreams smelling like an orange grove she joked:
‘Is she disgusting?’
He retorted:
‘I am disgusted at what I’ve done to her…not by the orange trees.’
Jonathan then tried to explain that he is a singer that acts and not the other way round and complained about taking so much instruction, while trying to perform. However the stage expert wasn’t taking any prisoners and hit out:
Don’t sing so much, you’ve got to stop disconnecting. I don’t unmderstand people who say I’m a singer who acts. Singers who say they don’t act, just don’t get it.
Mel C tried to warn the X Factor star and told him that he would need to change his attitude if he wants to succeed. She advised:
‘I think you need to be careful challenging people, you have to be aware of how that can affect people. Maybe before you speak sometimes, think a bit.’
After seeing this, we almost instantly knew that Jon wouldn’t be taking on the role of Jesus and we were right. Later in the day, Jason informed the classical singer that while he admired his courage – though perhaps not his beatboxing group performance – he wasn’t going to put him through to the live shows.
What did you think of Jonathan’s performance tonight? Should he have been Jesus? Leave your comments below…

Ansell is clearly a gifted young man, but has a belief that he is better than those around him. I feel sorry for the other up and coming performers who lost the opportunity of the ‘tale of two cities’ part, that he feels he could bin without consideration.
I’m not a huge fan of shows like this but seeing someone like Ansell get a reality check made it worth while viewing. I’m sure the director and team from the tale of two cities production team are made up too.
Totally agree Jonathan Ansell was totally unprofessional and has really shot himself in the foot. Who is going to hire him now after walking out of one show and being turned down by ALW for being to cocky!!
A Tale of Two Cities only ran for five weeks back in May and Paul Nicholas had given Jonathan permission to attend Superstar any one with tickets was also allowed to change dates if they wished to see Jonathan in the roll
hey should of said that Paul Nicholas gave ok for Jonathan to do it.
Paul even talked about it on Loose Women.
People who had booked tickets could of got an exchange or go another time
It did say onthe websitewhere ATO2C was on that Jonathan was not doing all performances.
Jonathan whom I met is most charmimg and always has time for his fans and autograph hunters.
Anyway I do believe thsat Jason was suppose to performed in Sound Of Music but did not because he did SCD.
JCS was badly edited and facts ignored
Oh by the way others who were on ATO2C were on West End Stage too but nothing said to them
This to me means that Jonathan was made ‘the fall guy”
his voice is too harsh anyway
