Rory Taylor moves from The Cavern Club to Superstar! Could he be Jesus?
Rory Taylor is a seasoned performer and made his TV debut this evening, on the first ever episode of ITV’s Superstar.
The 24 year old Scouse singer is normally seen jamming with his band – 54321 – in Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club, however earlier this year he decided to go solo and compete for the lead role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’
The talented vocalist told judges Lloyd Webber, Jason Donovan, David Grindrod and Melanie C that he had received the blessing of his bandmates and that they were fully supporting him in his new venture but admitted that because he wasn’t used to going it alone, he was much more nervous than he has ever been when taking to the stage before.
Andrew instantly warmed to Rory, admitting that he had “rather a good look”, he seemed even more impressed when Taylor launched into a rendition of Paul McCartney’s ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’.
It was a sweet and moving version but still incredibly strong and very impressive. He connected with the emotion of the piece nicely and we enjoyed the performance from beginning to end.
After his performance Mel C smiled and raved:
“He’s gorgeous, a hint of Leonardo Di’Caprio about him”.
Andrew made comparisons to another famous face adding:
“He’s got a tiny hint of Rod Stewart. I liked the instinctive rock catch he had in his voice. Natural rock sound.”
Jason told Rory that he had won a place in the next round and he looked elated to have succeeded. Do you think Rory could be Jesus? Leave your comments below…
