Superstar: Matthew Casson goes down in a ‘Blaze of Glory’
Matthew Casson was one of the few singers on tonight’s Superstar who had no formal training and was not already a stage veteran.
The legal worker admitted that he doesn’t have a professional singing background but was desperate to make it as a full time musical performer and think he can do it, because of his ‘love of the stage and being a big show off.’
Casson even has his own idea on how Andrew Lloyd Webber can modernise his Messiah, saying that he would give him a whole new career. He added:
“I think my modern take on Jesus is that he would work in the media, or a law firm, or public relations or something like that…”
Matthew sang Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Blaze of Glory’ for the panel dressed very casually in a pair of jeans and a plain black t shirt.
Jason Donovan grimaced quite a lot during the first verse and Matt’s tuning issues were definitely picked up by the panel.
All the same, Andrew Lloyd Webber found his performance ‘interesting,’ while Jason told him it was ‘raw’ with too many ‘sliding note.’
Unsurprisingly, Casson got a no and was sent home by David.
