Superstar’s Andrew Lloyd Webber hated out of tune The Voice contestants

Andrew Lloyd Webber has the gift (or the curse) of perfect pitch and cannot bear to listen to people singing out of tune and the musical genuis said this talent of his made it impossible for him to watch The Voice.

The singing talent show, which aired on BBC One recently and which was won by former holiday camp singer Leanne Mitchell, featured hopefuls singing songs chosen by their celebrity coaches on each live show (the format sounds familiar doesn’t it?).

It started out on a high, attracting more than ten million viewers each Saturday night, however Andrew was not among it’s fans.

The ‘Cats’ composer admitted that he couldn’t bear to listen to the contestants croon and told The Radio Times:

“I don’t know what the problem was there. Everyone was out of tune all the time.

“I just couldn’t watch it.

“Unfortunately, I have perfect pitch — it’s either one of the great advantages or the greatest affliction in life.

“When people sing out of tune, I just can’t listen.”

It’s lucky he’s not judging on The X Factor then isn’t it?

Andrew recently swapped channels and after appearing on the BBC for five series of his hit talent searches, this Saturday night he takes his latest series ‘Superstar’ to ITV.

He, Dawn French and Jason Donovan will be hunting for a male singer to take the lead in a new rock arena production of his hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’

French admitted yesterday that her biggest fear is that she will swear live on air however, Andrew is more concerned that she and Jason will slip into reality TV cliches.

He has warned them that he wants them to stay away from tired old lines and added:

“What I really, really want to do is to sit down with everyone and tell them that there are certain reality show cliches and I think we ought to have a gong system.

“It’ll gong us out if anyone says, ‘You’ve had a fantastic journey’ or, ‘Although you’ve lost, I’m sure we’re going to hear from you again’.”

I agree. The contestants on the voice were awful. Very unlistenable and a chore to watch.

Very well Mr Webber, but i must have perfect pitch too because i cannot bear to listen to your Jesus Christ Superstar shows. I fail to see what he is even famous for, he wrote one briliant musical and the rest have been garbage. He chose an American to write Britain’s song for Eurovision. Don’t get me started on his temper, he was going wild the other night because someone was singing Phantom Of The Opera the way they thought it sounded better and he started slamming his fists down on the table and threw his headphones off. Talk about a childish old fart.

If he had perfect pitch why did he choose Sarah Brightman to sing at the POTO 25th Anniversary, in fact why did he pick her to do the original Christine at all? Was she whining so much at him he gave her the part?
Don’t get me started on the JCS shows.
