American Idol now has just ten contestants remaining after the latest elimination show saw Alexis Grace ousted in a surprise result – and she received a double blow when the judges also passing up on the opportunity to save her. But wait a minute….I thought the show had been fixed for her to win?

After over 30 million votes were cast for this week’s show, Grace found herself in the bottom three alongside Michael Sarver and Allison Iraheta.

Judge Simon Cowell gave Grace a glimmer of hope after revealing the judges were “considering” saving her, however, after she delivered one last performance, Cowell told her “It was good….but not good enough”, and she was sent packing.

Ex-Idol winner Carrie Underwood also performed a duet with Randy Travis, who had been mentoring the contestants this week.

Next week, the Idol contestants will tackle Motown.

The show airs on Friday night from 9pm on ITV2.

Sources are suggesting what many already suspected and rumours are rife that American Idol bosses have already chosen their final four contestants.

Considering there are still 11 singers left on the show, that’s not good news for those people that aren’t Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Adam Lambert and Alexis Grace.

The New York Daily News reports that an AI insider said not only have the judges already picked their final four, but added that they want either Danny Gokey or Alexis Grace to scoop the title, saying that they are the most marketable.

“Adam Lambert and Lil Rounds are better singers and musicians than Gokey and Grace, but they’re too much like past winners and ‘A’ successes,” the source said. “Adam’s too close in style and sound to Chris Daughtry, while Lil Rounds is a dead ringer for Fantasia. Even their background stories are similar!

“The producers really want it to be Danny or Alexis. They think they’re very commercially viable, have a good image and a great story.”

Alexis Grace is one of my favourite female singers from this years American Idol series. I loved the song choice of Dirty Diana for last night’s show and I think her gutsy performance was great.

Some of the judges weren’t just as impressed, Simon and Randy in particular but as the girls are already in a minority in this years top 13, I hope Alexis makes it through to the next stage!

Judges comments:

Kara: “You are back. We are so happy to have you back. You are a naughty girl and I liked it.”

Paula: “I think naughty and sexy too but watch your over-singing.”

Simon: “Very over the top and probably not as good as you thought it was.”

Randy: “I thought it was good. It wasn’t great, but I liked the attitude.”

Yes you read the title right! Last night the American Idol judges twisted proceedings a little and at the end of the wild card round announced that this year, they were actually going to allow thirteen contestants through to the live finals rather than the usual twelve.

Anoop Desai, Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey and Matt Giraud will now join Jorge Nunez, Scott MacIntyre, Lil Rounds, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver in next weeks first live show in the full size American Idol studio.

I think last night’s choice were all quite predictable and doubt that the judges made their decision on the spot. Each person who got through was definitely amongst the favourites in their original group and each has a massive fanbase out there in the real world, especially Anoop it would seem. Simon claimed that the decision to make the numbers up to thirteen was semi spontaneous, but I think it might just be the ‘shocker’ talked about by Fox execs at the beginning of the season.
