American Idol winner Lee DeWyze has said that his fans will be ‘surprised’ by his debut album.

The 24 year old Illinois singer is planning the release of his record in October and told On The Red Carpet that he has been allowed an amazing amount of creative control over the album. Adding that it will be a mixture of rock and folk tracks, Lee said

“It’s so my vibe. It’s everything I’ve wanted to do, I’m writing on everything, so it’s really me, and I just can’t wait to show everybody what I’m doing,” he said.

“I think people are going to be a little surprised. Coming out of the show I think people were like, ‘Oh, he’s rock, he’s more folk’ but it’s a mixture of both.”

For the first year in its ten year history, American Idol auditions are under way, without music guru Simon Cowell.

Thousands queued in Nashville yesterday for the chance to audition, and the PA was on hand to gauge the crowd’s reaction to Simon being absent.

One hopeful remarked that he wouldn’t miss Simon. He said, “I’m kind of glad. He could be mean, and I don’t like mean people. So, I’m glad.”

But another wannabe interjected and said, “There’s a difference between being mean and being honest, and he always had the honest thing to say.”

Meanwhile, the show’s supervising producer, Patrick Lynn remarked, “Idol’s going to be different this year first and foremost because Simon Cowell is not here.”

We LOVE this video of the American Idol final ten rehearsing a group number for their upcoming tour.

The group will be performing their own rendition of season one winner Kelly Clarkson’s hit track ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ and both Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus seem to have lead roles in the arrangement.

We loved the rapport between the group during their break and especially Lee DeWyze and Andrew Garcia’s little bit of breakdancing together. The version of the song is incredibly imaginative and the Idols sang it so well live, it makes us wonder why they were forced to lip synch their group performances every week on the show.

X Factor judge Simon Cowell reportedly made an extravagant gesture to all the staff of American Idol, as he moved on from the show.

Simon announced his decision to leave Idol earlier this year and last month judged his final contestant. He will now concentrate on launching his own X Factor show in the US but as he moved on, the generous star wanted to show his gratitude to all the staff who worked with him during his nine season Idol stint.

Insiders report that during his last day on set, Simon gifted all the staff with designer handbags and wallets, each stuffed with £500 cash.

A show insider told The Daily Star: “The men got expensive wallets, the women got designer handbags. And tucked away inside was £500.”

“Simon Cowell likes people to think he’s a nasty guy, but deep down he knows how much work they all do.

“He wanted them to know he has valued their contributions.”

Why have we never had a boss like Simon? The most we ever got from our head honcho was a cheap bottle of plonk at Christmas time!

American idol winner Lee DeWyze was finally allowed to set up his own Twitter account and he joined the social networking site last Tuesday.

While the show was on air, Lee and his fellow hopefuls were forced to use a communal Facebook, MySpace and Twitter account. They took turns to speak to their fans on the official accounts, however Lee has now taken to his own individual Twitter page, which you can find here.

During an appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show on Monday, Lee revealed that he is about to begin work on his debut album and will continue to work on the record while he is on the American Idol tour. During the 50 date North American tour, Lee will be flying in and out of LA for songwriting and recording sessions….sounds hectic! He later tweeted:

“I’m not falling back asleep, can’t. I start on album next week! Have to pack then back to L.A, love ya guys! ”

American Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox has admitted that she would love to collaborate with the glamourous Adam Lambert.

The 24 year old Ohio singer told Entertainment Weekly that along with Lambert, she would also quite like to work with show winner Lee DeWyze.

“Maybe Adam [Lambert] would be down! That would be cool, that would be fun!” she replied. “He has a heck of a voice. Even Lee, we might work together too.

“I would love to work with Melissa Etheridge, Joe Cocker again, Ray LaMontagne, maybe Joe Satriani to play some guitar.”

Talking about her debut album, due for release this autumn, Crystal added:

“I’d like to co-produce my music.” But added:

I know that’s maybe naive, to come into this as a newbie… I’ve been doing it a long time but I’m still a newbie in the business.”

American Idol winner Lee Dewyze sang the national anthem at the NBA finals game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Speaking to The Boston Herald before his performance Lee said:

“It’s a huge responsibility but one I’m very happy to have.”

“Definitely being on the show is more intimidating. This is fun, this is an honor, this feels good.”

We weren’t big fans of Lee’s version of the anthem and don’t really think the song fitted comfortably within his range. For any doubters out there, watch the video of Carrie Underwood singing the same song beneath and tell me that Lee comes to close to comparing.

Christian Newswire have hit out at American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres, blaming her shameless promotion of “homosexuality as a virtue”, for the ratings decline which has affected the show.

No it wasn’t due to the tired format, or the fact that some people missed former judge Paula Abdul, according to Gary McCullough, people tuned out of the Fox talent show, because Ellen DeGeneres was offending them with her lesbian jokes.

Gary, a writer for Christian Newswire wrote:

I am confident that the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue.

DeGeneres’ “Yes, I have loved a woman,” comment from the May 11th show, was the most obvious lesbian-one-liner, but it wasn’t the only one, and it is hurting the show’s ratings. I can hear the bloggers loading their homophobe-blasters, but think this through with me. If one of the judges was an abortion activist, or a political right winger — and continued to insert comments in line with their activism — the same criticism would be true, and the show would suffer. The advice, “Shut up and sing!” comes to mind.

He then took his accusations one step further and seemed to liken lesbians to paedophiles with his closing comments. Gary concluded:

Network television producers may or may not stop promoting homosexuality; but for certain they will learn to keep homosexual activism separate from the cash-cow of “family entertainment.” There is of course the insane possibility that Hollywood will forsake ratings – and the dollars that follow – and continue down the path of change. Perhaps next we will see the pro-pedophilia group NAMBLA use its influence in Hollywood to have “Dancing with the Stars” seat Roman Polanski as a judge.

What Gary fails to realise is that Ellen DeGeneres has been fronting her own HUGELY successful chat show since 2004. The show is such a ratings success for US TV network NBC, that they have contracted Ellen to keep fronting it until at least 2013-2014.

And since he brought up Dancing With The Stars, does he forget that this show saw some of it’s best ratings ever this season and even beat American Idol to the top spot a number of times……all this with openly gay judge Bruno Tonioli sitting on the panel.

American Idol winner Lee Dewyze has failed to score a top ten hit with his debut single. In fact the 24 year old singer from Illinois failed to even get a top twenty hit with his release.

Lee did score the highest new entry in the Billboard Hot 100 with his cover of U2′s Beautiful Day, however it charted in the disappointing 24th position and if it fails to move up next week, he will be responsible for the lowest charting debut single of any Idol winner EVER.

Lee is the third American Idol winner who has failed to crack the top 10 with their debut single. The other two low sellers were – Jordin Sparks who won in 2007, and Kris Allen from the 2009 season.

It’s no surprise that fans haven’t gotten behind the release, DeWyze himself isn’t even a big fan of the song. The straight talking singer told USA Today:

“It’s not really my genre”.

“There were songs on the table, and I went with the one I thought represented me the best,” he added.

“I don’t know the reasoning behind which songs you get to pick. I don’t know all the ups and downs of the behind-the-scenes stuff.

“A big part of the game is to play by the rules.”

American Idol winner Lee DeWyze and runner up Crystal Bowersox have been hitting the promotional trail hard and the paired rolled up to NBC’s Today show earlier this morning.

Lee gave a rendition of his debut single ‘Beautiful Day’ but strangely Crystal Bowersox performed ‘Me and Bobby McGee’ and not her single ‘Up To The Mountain.’ It may not have been her latest release but we still preferred Crystal’s performance to Lee’s by far! What about you?
