The American Idol top 11 have had a bit of a rest and are now about to embark on their summer tour.
The reality TV show finalists have been rehearsing for their upcoming live shows for the last few weeks but before they set out on their nationwide journey they conducted the video interview below and James Durbin explained why he’s looking forward to hitting the road.
It may have taken place over a month ago, but we thought this video of American Idol contestants Stefano Langone, Pia Toscano, James Durbin, Casey Abrams, Thia Megia, and Jacob Lusk performing at May’s Fox Upfronts presentation was not to be missed.
In it the group took on Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson, River Deep – Mountain High by Ike & Tina Turner and a few other Idol hits of the year.
Pia Toscano is to join the ranks of major music stars such as 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga, as she has finally landed a record deal with Interscope Records.
The former American Idol contestant, who found herself at the centre of a media storm when she was prematurely eliminated from the reality TV show in ninth place, has reportedly signed with the label and has already started work on her debut album.
Antonia Armato of the production team Rock Mafia knows Pia, after she worked with all the finalists on the 2011 run of Idol, and she broke the news yesterday, telling ABC News Radio:

Scotty McCreery has revealed that he wants to express his Christianity on his debut album.
The 17 year old singer, who was last month crowned the winner of the 2011 season of American Idol, is already working on his first record and confessed that he’d like to follow in the footsteps of his own personal idol Josh Turner and include at least one faith related track on it.
Scotty’s debut single “I Love You This Big,” has climbed into the Top 25 in US charts and is still rising and speaking about the makeup of the subsequent album, he told The Boot:
Lauren Alaina has admitted that she deserves to be constantly asked about whether or not she is dating Scotty McCreery, because she chose to kiss him on live TV.
The sixteen year old singing sensation came second on this year’s American Idol season, runner up to her close friend Scotty and when he took the crown, she planted a smacker right on his lips in front of the studio audience and millions of viewers at home.
Scotty McCreery has admitted that he wants to leave American Idol behind him.
The country singer, who recently won the American reality TV series, says that he wants to now separate himself from the TV show and overcome the pressure and stigma which comes from appearing on a talent show.
Scotty told AOL’s The Boot:
“It’s a lot of pressure. Just the title of American Idol is something that people can look up to. I’m not Saint Scott, I’m not Mr Perfect but I want to be that role model.”
American Idol stars Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina are certainly doing the rounds.
In the last week alone the young singers have performed at the CMT Music Awards and Grand Ole Opry and just a few days ago both the stars showed up to sing at the CMA Music Festival. Their latest performances had a bit of a twist though, they each got to duet with a more seasoned music star.
Haley Reinhart has claimed that the time is right for her ‘throwback’ style of music.
The former American Idol singer came in third place in the most recent series of the hit talent show and said that the continued popularity of artists such as Amy Winehouse, Janelle Monae and Corrine Bailey Rae is a good sign for her future music career.
“I’m really, really lucky to have some strong women that have powerful voices that are coming back into the scene… that’s very inspiring, because that’s what I’ve wanted to do for a while,” she said. Read more & comment »
Teen singers Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina have signed their first record deal.
Scotty sang his way to triumph last week, as he won the latest season of American Idol and it was a country themed final as fellow competitor Lauren Alaina finished in the runner up spot.
