Britain’s Got Talent star Andrew Johnston has been forced to stop singing, after his voice broke.

Andrew, now 15, wowed audiences and judges alike in series two of BGT when he sang Pie Jesu from Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Requiem. Watch the video below.

The youngster did land a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco but has agreed with bosses that he will rest his voice until it matures into a tenor. We loved his audition and loved his crystal clear vocal performances. Let’s hope his voice matures sooner rather than later!

Britain’s Got Talent contestant, Andrew Johnston has said that he would love to be as famous as his idol Andrea Bocelli, but he has to wait for his voice to break first.

Andrew told The Sun: “I’d like to be as big as Andrea Bocelli but I’ll have to see what my voice is like when it breaks – I’m looking forward to hearing what it sounds like.

But he admitted: “I won’t be able to hit high notes like I’ve been able to now.”

Teenage choirboy, Andrew Johnston, may not have won this years Britain’s Got Talent, but the dream isn’t over as he has now landed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s record company.

Andrew reached the ITV show’s final last month but was pipped to the post by teenage street dancer, George Sampson.

However it has emerged today that SyCo Music, Simon Cowell’s division of record label Sony BMG, have offered him a recording deal.

Andrew exclaimed: “I can’t believe it. I’m so excited. It’s a dream come true.”

A SyCo Music spokeswoman said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Andrew, he’s incredibly talented and has huge potential.”

Andrew is a 13 year old singer from Carlisle. He has been a classical singer since the age of six and sings with the Carlisle Cathedral Choir. His hero is Aled Jones and he hopes to be as big as him one day.

Andrew has been singing at Carlisle Cathedral since he was 7 because his primary teacher said he had a good voice. Mr Suter (his Choirmaster) gave him his audition and he’s been there ever since.

There have been times when Andrew has wanted to quit because of peer pressure and bullying but he’s had the kindness, discipline and safety of the Cathedral to help him through. He’s had so many wonderful times at choir and he so wanted to be head chorister and that’s what he has now achieved by sticking with it and it was a very proud moment for him.

Despite being bullied for singing in a choir Andrew wants the chance to prove that his talent is not something to be ashamed off.

Amanda – I promised myself I wouldn’t cry but I was just mesmerised. You could knock all those bullies out with your voice. Congratulations.

Piers – School bullies don’t like it, that you have more talent than they could dream of. You look like a star and have a good chance of winning Britain’s Got Talent.

Simon – You’re better than you think you are. You’re good, but now you’re in the adult world I want to see confidence and self belief.
