Dancing On Ice: Jason Gardiner is glad ‘prim’ Angela Rippon has left

Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner has admitted that he is glad Angela Rippon was eliminated from the show on Sunday.

ITV’s other ‘Mr Nasty’ didn’t enjoy Rippon’s debut routine and blasted her and partner Sean Rice for playing it too ‘safe’ on the ice. He also informed her that she didn’t emotionally connect to the moves at all.

Speaking to The Sun Jason added that the former newsreader left him ‘cold’, saying:

Dancing On Ice 2011: Angela Rippon challenges Jason Gardiner to a skate off!

Angela Rippon has hit back at Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner, saying she would like to see him prove his worth on the rink.

The former newsreader was eliminated from the ITV show on Sunday night, after sharp tongued Gardiner blasted her routine calling it ‘safe’ and adding:

You are lacking any emotional connection with your choreography. You need to emotionally commit to what you are doing.

Dancing On Ice 2011: Angela Rippon ‘we had more up our sleeve!’

Angela Rippon has admitted that was ‘disappointed’ with last night’s Dancing On Ice result.

The 66 year old was the eldest contestant on this year’s series of the ITV show and found herself eliminated on the first show, along with former Eastenders actrees Nadia Sawalha.

Angela had been partnered by Canadian professional skater Sean Rice – whose wife Joydene Higgins is paired with Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry – and speaking on This Morning she revealed that they had lots more tricks and moves she would have liked to display for the judges.

Dancing On Ice show one: Angela Rippon skates with Sean Rice

Angela Rippon looked quite wobbly when she first took to the ice tonight and we were nervous for both her and her partner before she even started her routine.

During her rehearsals Torvill and Dean were disappointed by the former newsreader’s slow progress and improvement and Canadian skater Sean Rice forced her to take breaks because she was getting tired and endangering herself on the ice.

Dancing On Ice 2011: Angela Rippon reveals ice tumbles!

Angela Rippon is the oldest contestant to take part on this year’s Dancing On Ice but at 66 years old, she seems to be coping well with the show’s challenges.

The former newsreader has admitted that she’s had a few falls and tumbles on the rink but compared to Kerry Katona’s cracked ribs and Laura Hamilton’s lacerated leg, she is faring better than many of the other celebrities.

Angela Rippon for Dancing On Ice 2011?

Former ‘Dancing On Ice’ guest judge Angela Rippon is rumoured to have signed up to compete on the ITV show next year.

The 66-year-old star – who had a stint on the ice panel last year while Robin Cousins was working at the Winter Olympics – will take part in the celebrity skating contest, though people are already objecting to her inclusion, arguing she has an unfair advantage over the other contestants.

It was so weird to see Angela Rippon out of her business suit and in a strippers getup on tonight’s Let’s Dance For Comic Relief!

Angela danced to Big Spender, with BIG hair and a tight sparkly and short dress that left very little to the imagination.

As a newsreader Angela has become a bit of a national institution and even though her dancing really wasn’t up to much she deserves a heap of respect just for giving it her best shot tonight.

Zoe Ball & Suggs, Dom Joly, sports stars Martin Offiah and Denise Lewis, The Bill actors Lisa Maxwell and Patrick Robinson, Fern Britton and Angela Rippon will all appear in the third heat of Let’s Dance For Comic Relief this Saturday night on BBC One.

Lisa Snowdon and Dara O’Briain will be guest panellists alongside head panellist Anton Du Beke.

In the final, Anton will be joined by guest panellists Denise Van Outen and Michael McIntyre who is back by popular demand.
