Ann Widdecombe thinks that one of the reasons Edwina Currie was eliminated from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last weeekend, was because she was ‘too smutty’ on the show.

The former MP reigned on last year’s series of the BBC show and it was obvious that her former colleague Edwina was hoping to follow in her footsteps. But on Sunday, she became the first celebrity to be sent home and Anne thinks the fact that she exposed her underwear and talked a lot about her sex life, turned viewers off.

Ann fumed:

“Edwina completely misread the programme and the audience. All her talk was very smutty – it’s a family show. A large part of the audience is children. Anything that’s going to make parents uncomfortable isn’t going to be very popular.”

However, Ann does like some of this year’s contestants and in particular Russell Grant. She praised the astrologer for not taking the contest too seriously, and she thinks Edwina should have tried a similar tactic.

She added to The Sun newspaper: “Edwina’s only other option was to be the panto act which Russell’s done very well.

“She has a very bright mind and I expected some quick-witted repartee with the judges, but there wasn’t even any of that.”

Yesterday Edwina seemed to prove Ann’s point, by revealing that she didn’t mind being axed as the constant training had left her too tired for sex.

She said: “I always feel sexy. I don’t have a problem with that. The problem in the last couple of weeks has been at the end of the day, I’ve been so tired all I want to do is sleep.”

Ann told The Sun that Nancy, who has been paired up with pro-dancer Anton Du Beke for this year’s show, will be “high maintenance” while she’s competing.

She said, “Nancy will be more high maintenance than me.

“I hope I have prepared Anton for knowing how to handle battleaxe women — because he’ll need it with Nancy.

“That woman has such a very high opinion of herself.

“I can’t believe she said she’s the second most famous Italian after Sophia Loren. What about Galileo, Pavarotti and Leonardo da Vinci?”

Last week Anton, who of course partnered Ann while she was on the show, joked that he couldn’t tell Nancy Ann apart, calling them “peas in a pod”.

The ninth series of Strictly Come Dancing begins on September 30 at 9pm on BBC1.

BBC bosses have reportedly almost signed Russell Grant for this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Insiders say that producers think the roly poly astrologer will be a big hit with viewers when the sequin filled extravaganza returns to our screens this September and it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t know his waltz from his samba, neither did Ann Widdecombe and the public loved her!

Speaking about the new signing, a BBC source told The Sunday Mirror:

“Russell is in advanced talks to appear. We can’t wait to get him on the dancefloor in his ­sequins.

“He’s a really loud, ­flamboyant character and is going to be great TV.

“He will lose weight in training before the show but he’s still going to be a big bloke and not the most nimble performer.

“It’s going to be ­hilarious, although whoever has to ­partner him might be in for a rough ride.”

Grant is best remembered from his breakfast TV days in the 1980s and 1990s, when he offered astrological advice to viewers of TV-am, Good Morning and This Morning.

However, he is no stranger to the reality TV format and has previously competed in the fourth series of Celebrity Fit Club, losing over 3 stoneITV1′s Kitchen Burnout and in January 2011 he visited Turkey as part of Channel 4′s Celebrity Five Go to…

It was recently claimed that the 60 year old star sent a batch of healing crystals to Cheryl Cole, to help her get over her X Factor troubles….we’re not sure we believe that though….

It’s only March and already stars are being booked for their local panto.

One not to miss will be the staging of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves in kent, in which Strictly Come Dancing stars Ann Widdecombe and Craig Revel Horwood will be reunited.

The pair enjoyed an entertaining banter on the BBC show and were a big attraction on the nationwide tour, where they performed as dance partners.

In the production in Orchard Theatre in Dartford, Kent, this December, Ann will play the servant to Craig’s Wicked Queen.

The former Tory minister told The Sun:

“Craig and I have had enormous fun on the Strictly tour. I’m sure we can make that fun infectious.”

Patsy Kensit and Ann Widdecombe attend daily Mass while taking part in the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

Former Holby City star Patsy, who is a practising Catholic told The Sun that sometimes she and the former Tory MP argue over which service to attend. She said:

“I go to 6pm Mass but Ann is trying to get me to go to the 8am one with her.

“And I’m like, ‘Can’t we find one a bit later in the day?’ Like my mum, she’s very devout.”

The pair even have their own patron saint, that they turn to. Patsy laughed:

“St Jude is the patron saint of hopeless cases and he comes up trumps every time.”

Ann Widdecombe has admitted that she is loving getting her own back on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The former Tory politician – who faced a barrage of criticism from the acid-tongued judge for her comical performances on last year’s series of the BBC One show – is now dancing alongside Craig in the ‘Strictly’ tour, and is loving every minute of it.

She said: “After all his rude remarks I’m very much enjoying dancing with Craig. He’s even taller than Anton du Beke, so we look even funnier.

“He’s lucky this is a novelty dance and no one is judging his performance.”

However, Craig appears to have changed his opinion of the 63-year-old politician, and admitted while they may make an odd dancing partnership, he has great fun appearing alongside her.

He added to the Daily Mail newspaper: “At first I thought there was no way I would put myself up for something like that. Absolutely not. But I was persuaded it would be more like a show dance. I was assured it was meant to be light entertainment and funny.

“We’re doing the Charleston and I can’t imagine what we actually look like. But it is fun and there is no denying that people love Ann. She represents a whole swathe of the nation.”

Ann Widdecombe has confessed that taking part in Strictly Come Dancing, was the best thing she’s done this year.

The former Tory minister – who was eliminated from the BBC One show just one week before the semi-finals – explained she had a “whale of a time” on the celebrity dancing contest.

She said: “Without a doubt it’s been the highlight of my year. It’s completely different to anything I’ve ever done before and I had a whale of a time.

“It’s good, wholesome family entertainment that everybody can watch – glittery, very showy and really good fun.”

The 63-year-old star also admitted dancing was a “wonderful relief” from the pressures of politics.

Ann added: “Well, it’s a lot more relaxing, of course! When you’re in politics, everything you do affects people for better or worse. If I fall down on the floor on ‘Strictly’, I can’t hurt anybody else.

“Nothing I do on ‘Strictly’ – unless I happen to kick Anton Du Beke rather hard – can possibly affect anybody else. It’s a wonderful relief.”

Alesha Dixon is “relieved” Ann Widdecombe was voted off ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The judge – who won the BBC One show herself in 2007 – thinks if the former Conservative minister had stayed in the competition any longer, the public would have eventually “turned on her”.

She explained: “It was 100 per cent right she went when she did. It wasn’t frustration, more relief. It was the right time for Ann to go.

“If she’d gone on for two weeks more then I think the public would have turned on her. It had come to the point where it was time for the best dancers to be in the competition.”

However, the 32-year-old star admitted the crowd went “crazy” whenever Ann and her professional partner Anton Du Beke – who were eliminated from the show last week – hit the dance floor.

Alesha added to The Mail on Sunday newspaper: “No matter how many times we put her at the bottom of the leaderboard – which was every week – the public are the ones that decide.

“When Ann walked out on to the dance floor the crowd went crazy for her. So you have to acknowledge what she’s bringing, but at the same time strike that balance to remember in the end we want the best dancers in the show.”

Ann Widdecombe has hit back at the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judges after being booted off the show.

The former Conservative minister – who was the ninth contestant to leave the BBC One series on Sunday (05.12.10) – has claimed she has no idea what Alesha Dixon’s role is, and branded Craig Revel-Horwood “mean”.

After becoming renowned for her hilarious dance moves – which often saw her being dragged along the floor by her professional partner Anton Du Beke – the 63-year-old star has laid into the judges who mocked her performances.

Ann told The Sun newspaper: “Their job is to address technical performance. They have a job to do. Craig is mean. Len’s is to be a bit more judicial.

“I never really worked out what Alesha’s is and Bruno’s is to be very entertaining.”

Ann and Anton narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals after the movie-themed show on Saturday night (04.12.10), which saw the pair perform a particularly disastrous routine and receive a score of just 14 out of 40 from the judges.

During their ‘Hello Dolly’ showcase, Du Beke managed to lift the politician into the air on three occasions, which was panned by all four judges.

Alesha said: “I think the honeymoon is over.”

Former ‘Strictly…’ winner Alesha controversially replaced 67-year-old judge Arlene Phillips last year.

Strictly Come Dancing reject Ann Widdecombe has asked why Alesha Dixon is a judge on the BBC show.

Ann was eliminated during Sunday’s results show, after weeks of comedy dance routines with professional partner Anton DuBeke.

Speaking to The Sun the former Tory Minister admitted that she respects most of the judges on the show but when asked about Alesha Dixon, replied:

“I don’t know what her job is.”

She continued:

“Their job is to address technical performance. They have a job to do. Craig is mean. Len’s is to be a bit more judicial. I never really worked out what Alesha’s is and Bruno’s is to be very entertaining.”
