Bret Michaels has revealed that he will meet with American Idol bosses about possibly replacing Simon Cowell on next year’s season.

The Poison star overcame a potentially fatal brain hemorrhage, a mini-stroke and learning that he has a hole in his heart to perform alongside Casey James on the 2010 Idol finale and was received so well, that he is now being considered as an addition to the judging panel.

He told Parade.com, “We have a meeting in L.A. in a couple weeks and we’re going to sit down and talk. They did a poll and I think it was Madonna, P. Diddy, Howard Stern and myself, and I took 50 per cent or 60 per cent of the vote and that’s tremendous. I would love to be a judge on ‘American Idol’. I think I would bring a lot to the table.”

“I’m not built exactly like Simon Cowell, but, at the same time, I respect what he did. I would have to bring my own personality. I think if they have someone in there to try to imitate Simon, it would be a mistake; he’s an original,” he states. “Bring Bret Michaels in to be original… Bring someone who can bring a little grit, true grit, back to the show.”

Would you like to see Michaels on Idol next year? We think he’d be great but we’d prefer to see Harry Connick Jr in the chair.

Bret Michaels has fuelled rumours that he will replace Simon Cowell, on next year’s American Idol season.

Simon recently appeared in his final Idol show, after he announced his decision to leave and concentrate on his new American X Factor.

Poison frontman Bret Michaels overcame a potentially fatal brain hemorrhage, a mini-stroke and learning that he has a hole in his heart to duet with Casey James on the Idol finale, and at a subsequent concert in Biloxi, Mississippi on Friday, May 28, he told the crowd:

“I can’t say this is true yet, ’cause I don’t know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol.”

Talk about a true professional! In order to appear on last night’s American Idol finale, Bret Michaels overcame a potentially fatal brain hemorrhage, a mini-stroke and learning that he has a hole in his heart.

The Poison star rocked the stage with former contestant Casey James to sing his hit song ‘Every Rose Has It’s Thorn’ and considering it was his first live gig since his run of medical emergencies last month, we think he was truly amazing.

Bret admitted that he kept his appearance on the show completely secret.

“The doctors — I didn’t tell them I was going to do this … They’re going to find out in a few minutes,” the rebel told reporters backstage.

Michaels, 47, added that he “may not” have told his family either.

“I needed to be here and do this,” the ailing star told reporters backstage after the performance. “It’s been two months since I played, a month and a half in the hospital, and it was such an amazing feeling to come out there tonight and jam with Casey.”

“There’s still obviously a lot of things and a lot of pain I’m still experiencing,” he said. “But except for a little, as they say, hitch in the giddy up getting out there, my left side from the warning stroke, I feel amazing.”

We think it was a good experience for Casey too. He was energetic and dynamic while onstage with Michaels and we can see him becoming a successful artist in his own right now, rather than just another Idol clone.

Singer Bret Michaels has been involved in a road traffic accident.

According to a post on the Rock Of Love star’s website, Michaels was on his way to St. Paul, Minnesota from Toronto, when a vehicle lost control on the highway and crashed into his tour bus, causing a five-car pile-up.

No injuries were reported and “Michaels and his immediate crew were released from the scene following an investigation” by authorities, the Web site post read.

I’m not ashamed to say that one of my childhood rock heroes was Bret Michaels from Poison. As a matter of fact, I still listen to their earlier albums today. So Rock Of Love could either be a blessing or a curse, right?

What’s Rock Of Love?

Rock Of Love is a reality TV come dating show that revolves around Bret Michaels. Twenty women compete for the chance to ‘win’ true love with the bandana-wearing rocker.

All the reality TV elements apply. Bret puts the girls through a rigorous series of tests, all scientifically designed to tell him which girl will be right for him. Yes, your ability to pole dance and strip will tell Bret everything he needs to know about how compatible you both are.

And of course, with an ambitious group of rock chicks battling it out for Bret’s *ahem* ‘heart’, it isn’t long before the rivalry between girls boils over into open hostility.

The ‘babes’ aren’t exactly babes though…

One of the funniest moments of the episode I watched the other night was one of the girls – who’d had so much plastic surgery her own mother wouldn’t recognise her – earnestly telling the camera that beauty was only skin deep. That’s where reality TV offers the big laughs: people who can trot out cliched rubbish like this without realising how hypocritical they sound.

The worst thing about the girl in question was how awful she looked. Imagine paying thousands of pounds for plastic surgery only to end up looking like you’ve been made up using Dr Frankenstein’s throwaway parts.

And looking around the group, most of them aren’t lookers. And I know you’re thinking “but Gerard, how can you be so superficial?” And I’ll tell you that I’m watching a so-called rock star looking for love on a music channel. Rock stars are supposed to be sexy and attract sexy people. That’s the law, my friend.

OK, so Bret looks like he’s been botoxed within an inch of his life these days. Maybe he can’t afford to be choosy? I don’t know. But seriously, when a rock star can’t attract reasonably good looking women, what hope is there for the rest of us?

But it’s car crash stuff, right?

Yes sir, it is. There’s a ‘germophobic’ contestant who won’t kiss Bret because he’s been kissing all the other girls (yet she’ll stay in the competition for her chance at true love with him).

Then two of the girls are sitting on a couch waiting for Bret. They decide to make small talk: “I like horses,” one declares. “Horses are so pretty,” agrees the other.

Bret himself appears to be a little less than interested in the mix of slightly aged rock hags and silicone-enhanced airheads. And he loses cool points for overusing the word “rock”, too.

Rock Of Love promises to be a train wreck but a televisual treat at the same time. Just like the awful-but-awesome Ladette To Lady, Rock Of Love has the right blend of preposterous premise, nasty contestants and a rock ringmaster keeping the whole thing afloat.
