He thinks most of the rows between the judges are fake and is sure people are losing interest in the shocks and twists planned by bosses to spice things up.

Bruce told Radio Four’s Front Row:

“Although ours is a reality show, we do have people getting up and doing something, we have got beautiful music going on, great singers, we have comedy from the judges, there is (also) comedy from me.

“So it has other things to offer, not just singer after singer after singer and judges making up rows between themselves – scripted, I think.”

Many people have claimed that The X Factor is on it’s way out and has no future, but Forsyth doesn’t think they have quiet hit the nail on the head. The pensioner thinks Simon Cowell has a few good years left in the show before it gets cancelled or replaced and added:

“I wouldn’t like to say it is on its last legs as I think they will do another couple of series of it.

“I am just thrilled that our show is getting a bigger audience than ever this year. That is what I am thrilled about.”

Do you agree with Bruce? Why do you think the X Factor’s ratings are falling, while Strictly goes from strength to strength? No one really wants Bruce on there, do they? Not really.

“But they have him there so they can say, ‘How dare you say we’re ageist? Moira Stuart is wrong!’.

“Look at Bruce – he needs ironing before the show! There’s a bit in my new play where someone says, ‘You only watch Strictly Come Dancing to see if Bruce drops dead live on air’. Miserable old b*****d!”

Getting to the heart of the matter, Jim admitted that he rarely gets offered jobs on primetime TV shows these days, because he is too old. He added:

“Who wants to see me?
