BBC bosses are reportedly keen to have Bruce Forsyth back for the 2012 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV veteran will be 84 by the time next year’s series comes along, but producers think he is part of the reason that so many millions of people tune in to watch the celebrity dance extravaganza each weekend and are keen for him to remain on the presenting team.

The show beat it’s ITV rival The X Factor most Saturday night’s in it’s recent series and bosses are said to believe that Bruce’s appeal was part of their winning formula. Insiders claim the star has had a new lease of life since being knighted by the Queen earlier in the year and is also keen to return.

Last night a senior BBC insider told The Sun: “Bruce has had a great series and Strictly is his as long as he wants it.

He’s having a break then will come back to us with his thoughts on next year’s show.

“We are working on the assumption he’ll be back.”

Bruce Forsyth has blasted The X Factor, for all it’s scripted rows and claimed that his show, Strictly Come Dancing, is a much more superior series.

This year the BBC dance extravaganza has enjoyed a real ratings boost, beating the X Factor on a Saturday night for the first time in years on a few occasions.

The veteran star believes that the success is because people are becoming fed up and sick of all the faux drama on the ITV show. He thinks most of the rows between the judges are fake and is sure people are losing interest in the shocks and twists planned by bosses to spice things up.

Bruce told Radio Four’s Front Row:

“Although ours is a reality show, we do have people getting up and doing something, we have got beautiful music going on, great singers, we have comedy from the judges, there is (also) comedy from me.

“So it has other things to offer, not just singer after singer after singer and judges making up rows between themselves – scripted, I think.”

Many people have claimed that The X Factor is on it’s way out and has no future, but Forsyth doesn’t think they have quiet hit the nail on the head. The pensioner thinks Simon Cowell has a few good years left in the show before it gets cancelled or replaced and added:

“I wouldn’t like to say it is on its last legs as I think they will do another couple of series of it.

“I am just thrilled that our show is getting a bigger audience than ever this year. That is what I am thrilled about.”

The 83-year-old presenter has revealed that he gets bored of hearing his trademark phrases, such as “didn’t he do well” and “nice to see you, to see you nice”, shouted at him when he is out.

Speaking to Rob Brydon in an interview to air on BBC Two on August 5, Bruce said, “You can get a bit fed up with it.

“Especially when you go past a building site and get, ‘Good game, good game!’

“I went to the FA Cup Final and if I heard ‘Good game’ once, I heard it a thousand times.”

However, Bruce added that he doesn’t regret his association with the catchphrases…

He said, “I don’t know what I would have done without them in many ways.”

Bruce, who’s been in showbiz for 72 years, recently claimed that he’s very “shy” and hasn’t pushed himself as hard as he could have in his career, despite his success.

He added, “I’ve never been one for pushing myself into things. I can be quite shy – the polar opposite of my TV personality.

“It’s the other side of me. I often think I’d have got a lot further a lot quicker if I’d made those calls or buttered up the right person…

“It’s just not my way.”

Bruce Forsyth has claimed that he would have had an even biger showbiz career, if he has been less shy.

The TV veteran – who has reportedly been offered a whopping £500,000 to front this year’s Strictly Come Dancing series – says he probably should have been more ‘pushy’ and would have gotten further if he had ‘buttered up the right person’ along the way.

He said: “I’ve never been one for pushing myself into things. I can be quite shy – the polar opposite of my TV personality. It’s the other side of me.

“I often think I’d have got a lot further a lot quicker if I’d made those calls or buttered up the right person – it’s just not my way.”

Bruce was recently awarded a knighthood and although he confesses he is thrilled to have been honoured by the queen and receive the title of Sir, he is even happier for his wife as she will now be known as Lady Forsyth.

He told The Mirror newspaper: “Honestly I’m as pleased for her as I am for me. I’m hoping this will make her the first woman to be the first lady of a knight in Puerto Rico. She was, after all, their first Miss. World.”

He may be 83 years old but he is not yet out of the game. It has been reported that Bruce Forsyth has recently signed a £500,000 deal to return to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for the 2011 series.

Year after year newspapers report that he won’t be back and will be forced into retirement, but it has today been claimed that the veteran TV presenter will continue to front the dance extravaganza alongside blonde beauty Tess Daly, while Claudia Winkleman is thought to also be returning, to present the weekly results show.

A spokesman said: “We’re delighted and looking forward to the new series.”

Although there had been recent speculation that the entertainer was set to be replaced on the show, with his co-host Tess’s husband Vernon Kay and John Barrowman the two big names being touted as his successor, BBC One controller Danny Cohen had previously insisted the job would be Bruce’s as long as he wanted it.

He said: “Bruce is a great entertainer and if he wants to keep doing ‘Strictly…’ the job is his. He is on holiday at the moment but when he gets back we will sit down and discuss things.

“All the speculation about other presenters is confusing, because we haven’t approached anyone else. That is the truth. We will be speaking to Bruce when he gets back.”

Last year, Bruce shared co-hosting duties with Claudia, with the ‘Film 2011′ star fronting the show on Sundays, when the results were announced.
It is expected the same arrangement will continue this year

Craig Revel Horwood has admitted that he wouldn’t support Vernon Kay as a replacement for Bruce Forsyth on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The famously acid-tongued judge believes if the 82-year-old TV veteran permanently quits the BBC One show, Vernon – who has been touted as his replacement and is married to Bruce’s co-host Tess Daly – wouldn’t be the right presenter, as there is only one person who is “absolutely perfect” for the job.

Speaking on ‘OK! TV’ about whether Bruce will be hosting the next series of ‘Strictly’, Craig said: “Well I’m hoping that he is. I would not like it to just fizzle out and tail off – I think he is the show.

“There isn’t anyone in this country – I think – that can do what he does. He’s a song-and-dance man and if anyone was to ever take over, I’d say it would have to be a song-and-dance man.

“Is Vernon a bit of a song-and-dance man? I don’t think so, darling. There’s no one that matches to him. You can go through a plethora of stars, people or hosts that could do it but you can’t get better than Brucie. He’s perfect for our format – absolutely perfect. I would hate to see him go.”

Despite Craig’s reluctance to see Vernon step into the ‘Strictly’ host’s shoes, Bruce – who relinquished his role on the Sunday night results show during the last series – thinks the 36-year-old presenter would do a “very good job”.

He recently said: “I always say Vernon could do a very good job. He would be good. I said that five years ago. ”

Jim Davidson has launched a bitter verbal attack on Strictly Come Dancing presenter Bruce Forsyth.

The comedian and former TV star has obviously been influenced by the green eyed monster, as during an interview with The Sun he branded the 83 year old star a “miserable old b*****d” and claimed that the BBC only continue to employ him, so they can deny that they are an ageist organisation.

Jim, who stepped into Brucie’s shoes as host of The Generation Game in 1995, said:

“He’s hanging on. No one really wants Bruce on there, do they? Not really.

“But they have him there so they can say, ‘How dare you say we’re ageist? Moira Stuart is wrong!’.

“Look at Bruce – he needs ironing before the show! There’s a bit in my new play where someone says, ‘You only watch Strictly Come Dancing to see if Bruce drops dead live on air’. Miserable old b*****d!”

Getting to the heart of the matter, Jim admitted that he rarely gets offered jobs on primetime TV shows these days, because he is too old. He added:

“Who wants to see me? If you’re a controller of British TV on Saturday nights, you’ve got to go for the 18-30 audience.”

Danny Cohen has insisted that he does not plan to replace Bruce Forsyth on Strictly Come Dancing.

The new BBC One controller – who recently took over running the channel from Jay Hunt – was commenting on reports that Vernon Kay would be replacing the veteran TV presenter and fronting the show with his wife, Tess Daly.

Cohen told The Mirror that he will discuss Bruce’s future on the show soon, but insisted that he hasn’t approached anyone to take over the job.

He said:

“Bruce is a great entertainer and if he wants to keep doing Strictly, the job is his.”

“He is on holiday at the moment but when he gets back we will sit down and discuss things. All the speculation about other presenters is confusing, because we haven’t approached anyone else. That is the truth. We will be speaking to Bruce when he gets back.”

Forsyth will celebrate his 70th year in the industry next year and Cohen is keen to mark the occasion.

“Do you realise he has spent almost 70 years in show business? The guy is incredible. Would we like to do a programme about that anniversary? Yes, for sure,” he said. “I think the BBC did a show when he turned 80, but if we could possibly make something different and Bruce wanted to, we would love to discuss that with him as well.”

Bruce Forsyth has backed Vernon Kay as the new ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ presenter.

The 82-year-old TV veteran – who currently co-hosts the BBC One show alongside Vernon’s wife Tess Daly – hasn’t yet stepped down from the series but thinks while the ‘All-Star Family Fortunes’ frontman would do a “very good job” as his replacement, he would love Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt to assume the role.

He explained: “I always say Vernon could do a very good job. He would be good. I said that five years ago. There have been people bandied around for the past five or six years.

“Brad Pitt could take my place. It’s so obvious.”

Bruce – who joked while receiving the Special Recognition Award at Wednesday night’s (26.01.11) National Television Awards that now would be the “perfect time” to announce his retirement – admitted he is still considering appearing on the next series of ‘Strictly’.

He added to the Daily Express newspaper: “At the end of March, beginning of April we will have talks about ‘Strictly’ again. But after tonight it is very, very difficult when you see all those clips of things I’ve done – not in a big-headed way – it gives you a feeling of why not? So at the moment, why not?”

Bruce has already cut down his hours on the celebrity dance contest, handing over the reins to Claudia Winkleman for the Sunday night results show.

Meanwhile, Vernon is believed to be reluctant to sign a new deal with ITV1′s ‘All-Star Family Fortunes’ amid rumours Bruce could be on the verge of quitting ‘Strictly’.

Vernon Kay has reportedly refused to sign another contract with ITV, as he hopes to move to BBC for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

TV executives had allegedly spent weeks trying to tie the ‘All Star Family Fortunes’ into another contract – he signed a £900,000 one-year deal with ITV in 2010 – but he refused to be tied to one channel and insiders say he is holding out for Bruce Forsyth’s job.

A source told The Sun:

“Vernon is desperate to get the Strictly job – and the BBC are very keen on him taking it.

“Bruce is his idol but everyone knows he may be off soon. Producers keep expecting the call from him any day to say he’s had enough.

“So Vern turned down another exclusive deal from ITV as that would have taken him out of the game if Brucie retires.

“He’ll still do Family Fortunes but they’ll just pay him a fee for every show he does.”

Vernon’s wife Tess Daly already fronts the BBC dance show alongside TV veteran Bruce. The 82 year old cut down his hours last year when he stopped presenting the results show and it is widely believed that he intends to step down altogether in 2011.
