Chico Slimani got a bit of a shock at the Dancing On Ice studios last night, when he was set upon by a mob of one Direction fans.

The singer should be used to screaming fans, after all he did also shoot to fame on ITV talent show The X Factor, however insiders say he was a bit freaked when he was chased down by fans of the handsome young boyband, who were performing on the show last night.

The screaming girls were frantically trying to find Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne, after they performed twice on Dancing On Ice yesterday, however they somehow ended up crashing into Chico’s dressing room after the live show.

“He got a bit of a fright when these teenage girls crashed through his door,” a source told The Daily Star. “Poor Chico thought the screaming girls were lusty fans who were chasing him.

“He was gutted to discover they were after One Direction.

“However, he saw the funny side and the poor girls got escorted out without seeing their idols.”

One Direction were probably the most popular musical act we have ever seen perform on the ice skating series and as they sang their hit songs ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ and ‘One Thing’ last night, fans and audience members showed their support by singing along with every word and screaming as each individual band member got their own solo lines.

Chico Slimani struggled to maintain the fluidity of his routine before taking to the rink on tonight’s dancing On Ice.

The former X Factor star really put his all into rehearsals before the live show, determined to get it right and impress judge Louie Spence this evening. Thankfully for him it was all alright on the night.

Along with his professional partner Jodeyne Higgins, Chico sparkled in silver tonight and what impressed us most about his routine, was the amount of independent content it contained.

He lifted, skated, jumped and danced, but from beginning to end the performance looked effortless and the footwork seemed to come completely naturally to the hunky singer.

The judges agreed too and awarded Chico with a score of 21.5, his personal best in the series so far.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Louis Spence: I loved the opening, very good hip rotations. There was great speed and it was more fluid. I want to see a bit more diversity now. I want you to push it a little bit further now, because I think you have a lot more in store.

Katarina Witt: Chico from the first show you have been solid like a rock out there and tonight, you were as connected as you could be. To be so alone out there for quite some time, even turning in both directions which is quite difficult.

Robin Cousins: My advice to you would be, everybody loves you and you give a lot to us, but keep a little more of that for you and look after yourself a little bit, and you will be even better with Jodeyne.

Chico Slimani and Sam Nixon found themselves going head to head on tonight’s Dancing On Ice show.

The men and their partners shared the ice and the music, as part of their duel on the rink and at the end of the routines, the judges were asked to choose which pair they preferred and grant the chosen couple immunity from elimination in the following results show.

In the pre-performance VT Sam admitted that he was nervous because Chico has beat him on the scoreboard twice running, however Chico insisted that Sam is a ‘formidable foe’ and ‘not to be taken lightly.’

Both men struggled with their more difficult routines and more intricate footwork during the week’s rehearsals and judging from the practice footage, it was hard to tell who would be the front runner tonight.

This evening both men started by doing push ups on the ice to Queen’s ‘Under Pressure’. Looking resplendent in yellow, Sam then started his routine and we loved the smoothness of his turns and his constant grin, however for one or two moments he looked a little less than steady.

Chico was up next and he looked so psyched to be on the rink. He managed a pretty impressive lift in which he flipped his partner and then he put Sam’s slow turns to shame, with a fast jump and spin.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

ROBIN COUSINS: Sam your footwork was very strong, tidy and neat, Chico you are so enthusiastic, the lifts were great and the speed was still there. I will award immunity to Chico and Jodeyene.

LOUIE SPENCE: Sam you were starting to show some elegance and grace and you are really coming on….thgere is a little thing about the connection with your partner..keep the connection. Chico you came out a little stronger this time and there were those lovely turns…but watch the steps in between the connecting steps. I will award immunity to Chico and Jodeyne.

KATARINA WITT: Sam from the beginning I enjoy your steps and your skating gets smoother and smoother. Chcio you keep using your natural presence and hey you jumped! The couple I am awarding immunity to is Chico.

Chico Slimani has offered some sage words of advice to hopeful X Factor contestants.

The Dancing On Ice contestant shot to fame when he took part in the ITV singing show back in 2005. Six years ago he finished in fifth place, but was remembered because of his cheesy smile and constantly upbeat attitude and speaking to The Sun, he claimed that people trying out for the show in more recent years have been taking it all too seriously.

The singer admitted that he didn’t particularly want to be a novelty act but in the end knew he had to take whatever opportunities came his way. Slimani explained:

“People take themselves too seriously and forget to be real. If opportunity presents itself on The X Factor, there’s a timescale in which you can do it, because next year you have got another lot and nobody remembers.’

On his own career, which featured the release of his memorable single ‘Chico Time,’ he added:

“After ‘Chico Time’, I worked with some guys who wrote the song ‘Hero’ for Enrique Iglesias and worked with Ricky Martin. I wanted to go down that route, but my management saw something different. They wanted it to be completely cheesy and I had no choice in the matter.

“I look at X Factor as a window of opportunity and a platform. I took that ball and ran with it. You have to make hay while the sun shines. I did well out of it. I would never want to forget ‘Chico Time’. You can get delirious if you take life too seriously.

“Look at Jedward. They have done amazingly and have fantastic management. I say to people that it is a conveyor belt, but if you have the machine behind you then you are cooking on gas.”

Chico is hoping to use Dancing On Ice boost to his career and wants to release a new album, which he recently recorded. He says the music would change people’s ‘perception’ of him.

Chico Slimani looked every bit like Tom Cruise when he took to the rink for tonight’s Dancing On Ice.

For the movie themed episode, the hunky singer skated to ‘You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling’ from the hit film ‘Top Gun’ and he confessed that he was going for the ‘cool factor’ with his routine.

Karren Brady wanted him to perform with ‘passion and emotion’ and to be a bit more serious than normal, while he wanted to channel less cheese and more romance.

This evening the former X Factor contestant literally marched onto the ice, took his place at a mic stand and mimed a bit before starting to skate. Once he got started though, Chico’s skating was accomplished and steady. He looked totally comfortable with Jodeyne and we really felt the romance he was trying to convey though he possibly smiled a bit too much for such a supposedly emotional routine.

SCORE: 18

JUDGES COMMENTS:

LOUIE SPENCE: Tom Cruise who? I’m sorry but I’ve certainly got a loving feeling. Movie week, I want to see you interpret the character, you really did this week. There was good fluidity, nice clean arms.

KATARINA WITT: I think it’s the perfect start to the night. You guys covered the ice well, there was some simplicity to the choreography which I like.

ROBIN COUSINS: You command this ice with such confidence but there is not an arrogant bone in your body to go with that. I can’t wait to see where you’re going to go in a few weeks time.

Chico Slimani was a last minute entrant to Dancing On Ice this year and tonight, made his big debut on the ITV show.

The former X Factor contestant landed a place in the lineup after Chesney Hawkes was injured and forced out of the competition, and it was only a fortnight ago that he was told he would be skating with the stunning professional Jodeyne Higgins for the series.

In his pre-performance VT it was clear that Chico started at a bit of a disadvantage as he had no balance on the ice and no skating experience at all….in fact Chris and Jayne looked very nervous when watching him on the rink.

However tonight head coach Karen Barber named him as the celebrity who has progressed the most and when he took to the ice he certainly looked a lot more steady.

This evening Chico and Jodeyne skated to ‘Wild Thing’ and it was an attitude fulled routine, as it only fitting for the bubbly star. It was fast paced and Slimani fitted in a lot of steps, a jump and even some basic lifts. There were no slips, no wobbles and he was very precise throughout….we would say it was one of the best routines of the night.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

LOUIE SPENCE: Chico it is getting hot in here. Not only are you easy on the eye physically but you knocked out a great routine there. The only thing I would say is that at the beginning there was a little bit too much cheesy Chico for me, I prefer it a bit more sexy but over all….I’m excited!

ROBIN COUSINS: They have to name the song wild but in control thing It had speed and great power but every move was controlled and was in exactly the right place at the right time. I thought it was terrific and I hear Ches was a pretty good skater and you are also very good, who through the next couple of weeks will show us what you are made of.

KATARINA WITT: Chico you have potential to be a Thoroughbred. The way you came out, the speed you already had, how you acknowledged everyone and through the programme you were in control of your partner Jodeyne. It shows how good of a partnership there is already.

Chico has admitted that ITV bosses have banned him from wearing his prayer beads on the ice tomorrow night.

The former X Factor star replaced Chesney Hawkes as a contestant on Dancing On Ice and will make his debut on the rink on Sunday. However, as elated as he is about being given the opportunity to reinvigorate his career, Chico confessed that he is also disappointed that he won’t be able to have his beads on his person during the routine.

Chico told the Daily Star that producers banned him from wearing the accessory, due to health and safety fears and explained:

“Health and safety have said I can’t have my beads on the ice. They say they are a hazard.”

He added:

“It’s upsetting. I never go anywhere without them. They’re a part of me.”

Chico had some training on the ice, as he was one of the stand by contestants that bosses have waiting in the wings each year, however in terms of rehearsal time he is lagging behind many of the other celebrities.

The singer confessed that he is nervous about his routine, but will use prayer to help him combat the tension. He said:

“I always get nervous before a performance so I keep them close to me.

“But tomorrow I will just pray to God and meditate and connect to my spiritual master who will help me through the routine. I’m putting myself in his hands.”

Chico Slimani has reportedly signed up for the 2010 series of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!

The Spanish singer reached the quarter finals in the 2005 series of X Factor and subsequently released a single named ‘It’s Chico Time.’ In 2008, he appeared on the reality TV show CelebAir and in 2010, he released a remake of his debut single retitled “It’s England Time” in support of the England team to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

On his I’m a Celeb appearance, an insider told The Sun: “Viewers loved Chico’s cheeky chappie ways during X Factor and producers are sure they will love him even more in the jungle.

“His happy charm will also be a big boost for the other celebrities as they deal with the hardships of jungle life.”

Chico Slimani has claimed that Simon Cowell forced Louis Walsh to put John and Edward Grimes through to the live finals, because he knew what a media circus would erupt around them.

The former X Factor contestant told the hosts of Live From Studio Five: “I’ve been watching it and I have to say, when they came on, I thought, ‘They can’t possibly let them through’. Now Simon is many things, stupid he isn’t. He’s rung up, going, ‘Louis, you’re putting those kids through’. Why? The thing is, who are we talking about now?

“They get in the newspaper columns, they’re getting people like us talking about them and they’ve got the kids behind them.”

He added: “Can they sing? No. Are they going to win? No. Are they entertaining and do you switch on to see what they’re going to do? Yes. Is it good for the show? Ker-ching, Simon’s got it going on!”

Apparently his chants of “It’s Chico time!”, “It’s meal time!” and “It’s disembarking time!”, are starting to grate heavily on the nerves of his fellow airline staff.

One insider told the Daily Star: “It won’t be very long until it’s Chico Time To Go Time. Everyone’s beginning to find him very annoying.”

I have always liked Chico and his upbeat attitude to life. Could it be that the group of so called ‘stars’ are taking themselves just a tad too seriously? It is a TV show after all!
