So after they greatly disappointed us with their live performance of new single Happy Now, Take That made it up to us downhearted fans with their hilarious Fake That sketch.

In the video comics Alan Carr, Catherine Tate, James Corden, John Bishop and David Walliams became Fake That and were seen taking to the stage for a tribute band audition, with none other than the real band sitting behind the judges table.

They dressed in PVC, emulating the iconic ‘Do What You Like’ video, and also in rowers gear as the boys did in The Flood.

Our favourite star? Catherine Tate by a mile! Except maybe she would have been better suited to playing Gary where she could have passed her breasts off as moobs….

After a slightly disappointing Downton Abbey sketch and a very mediocre Take That performance, tonight’s Comic Relief was lifted by the hilariously funny duet between Peter Kay and Susan Boyle.

The famous pair collaborated on the Chess song ‘I Know Him So Well’, originally a hit for Subo’s idol Elaine Paige and her pal Barbara Dickson.

The funniest things about the video was Susan’s HUGE eighties style hair, her equally large forehead and the fact that, at times, it was hard to tell which singer was the man in drag!

The battle for second place was between Lulu’s brilliant Soulja Boy dance and Noel Fielding’s stellar Kate Bush impersonation. And as much as we loved Lulu’s routine, it was only right that Noel Fielding followed Baker and Thornton through to the final.

Although it wasn’t a dead cert that Fielding would survive – the judging panel got split quite quickly. Lee Mack chose Noel while Jack Whitehall voted to save Lulu (though we suspect that he was trying to avoid making the casting vote in favour of Fielding!) This left Keith Lemon to make the difficult decision, though clearly people are terrified of Lulu for some reason. After being pressed several times by Steve Jones, Lemon finally relented and yelled “Noel Fielding”!

The rejected acts – in order of elimination – were Penny Smith, Jarred Christmas, Andi Osho (who was robbed in my opinion) and finally Lulu.

Jarred Christmas is the last contender to entertain us on Let’s Dance For Comic Relief. He correctly deduces that Let’s Dance is a thinly-veiled cross-dressing competition and decides to wax his man bits.

Taking to the stage in a blue tracksuit, Jarred quickly strips down to a hot pink leotard. He’s dancing to Madonna’s Hung Up. There’s nothing sexy about this routine at all, folks. Well, that’s not true, watching a slightly overweight man dressed up as Madonna-with-mutton-chops is always going to be funny.

And as Jack Whitehall later points out, Jarred’s hairstyle is uncannily like Keith Lemon’s. Not a bad routine – he was a surprisingly good dancer, our Mr Christmas. Wasn’t he?

Lee Mack: “There are three women in life I’ve always found very attractive. Madonna, Deirdre from Coronation Street, and Dawn French. I never thought I would see anybody combine those three looks. On top of that, a hairy cleavage and a bulge smaller than Madonna’s. I thought it was a winner.”

Jack Whitehall: “I thought it was amazing. You do look fantastic, and Keith’s hairdresser has done a fantastic job. The whole look is brilliant. You are amazing!”

Keith Lemon: “I think Madonna is gonna hate you, she’s gonna hate you. Coz you were better than Madonna. I think you look disgusting, but I do like your hair. You look disgusting.”

One’s a comedian, the other’s an Emmerdale actor. We’re not sure which one is which, but Charlie Baker and James Thornton start off with their own Fight Club skit, Tap Club.

How do they top that? They do an old school routine – Putting On The Ritz. It’s hard to like this though, because Let’s Dance shines with the drag acts, and what Baker and Thornton did here was a very faithful (and quite charming) musical number. They carried it off beautifully, but I couldn’t help being bored a little in the middle. It felt like the routine dragged on for longer than some of the others.

Lee Mack: “I’m gonna ask the question the whole nation’s thinking – was that real tapping or was it sound effects? (Charlie gives a demonstration) I love Charlie, I love Emmerdale, I love tap dancing. What more is there to say?”

Jack Whitehall: “I thought it was brilliant, you did really really well. You looked like you were really really enjoying it. Especially Charlie, your face throughout the entire thing…you looked like a 16 year old boy that’d just found porn in the woods.”

Keith Lemon: “Could you do tap dancing before you did this? Because I think you could do Dancing On Icicles as well. It was like proper tap dancing weren’t it?”

Yummy East End comedienne Andi Osho is next to take the stage on Let’s Dance For Comic Relief. And we find out a secret sadness in Andi’s family – all of her relatives become Michael Jackson after a certain age. Bloody sob stories…

So Andi’s performing to Jackson’s Bad tonight. Wow, she’s like Michael Jackson with boobs! Seriously, if the panel were conflicted over Noel Fielding’s performance, they’re going to be in a really weird place after this!

Andi’s not. Bad, that is. OK, she’s outshone in places by the backing dancers, but she handles the steps well and she gave some sexy hip movements during the group bit at the start.

Lee Mack: “That was absolutely brilliant. And I’m personally a little bit disappointed that she didn’t go the extra 10% and set fire to her head. I’d also like to point out that doing the moonwalk in roller skates is actually cheating. I genuinely, genuinely thought that was brilliant.”

Jack Whitehall: “Absolutely nailed it. It was amazing. I’ve missed Michael Jackson every day and finally after seeing that, I am at peace. That was brilliant. Well done Andi.”

Keith Lemon: “I couldn’t have done better if I was wearing a mask myself. It was amazing. He died and come back alive.”

I love that Noel Fielding refers to himself as “Britain’s Leading Goth comedian”. Clearly since Russell Brand has legged it to the US of A and Tim Minchin isn’t native to these Isles, Noel Fielding is Britain’s only Goth Comedian.

Fielding gets a fairly surreal intro video, in which he gets mentored by a cockney fairy princess. Badly. It’s a nice spin on the typical ‘celebrity training video’, especially at the end where he declares it to have been a success!

Excellently kooky song choice for Noel as well – Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush! One of Let’s Dance’s strong suits is taking make performers and making look disturbingly feminine. Fielding’s wearing a flowy red dress and brunette wig and giving. Oh! Oh! Oh! The routine pays tribute to the original video – with two backing dancers mimicking Noel’s movements.

Lee Mack: “I’ve watched this programme many many times, and a lot of comedians will come out here and they will play the opposite gender just to get cheap laughs. But tonight, finally, this young lady come out here and was happy to be herself. And for that, she’s my winner so far.”

Jack Whitehall: “It was beguiling, it was beautiful, it was elegant, and it’s left me worrying about…personal issues. Next time I’m intimate with a lady, when I shut my eyes, I’ll see you. And what worries me even more is that won’t disappoint me.”

Keith Lemon: “Noel, you’re very funny on television. Normally when you dress, you remind me of Dracula and also look a bit like a hawkman. But tonight you remind me of Blossom from the 80′s TV show Blossom. And also remind me of Bev from Brookside. Your lines were amazing. I think he might be ‘t winner.”

Token pensioner on this year’s Let’s Dance For Comic Relief is the amazing Lulu. Seriously, I do think Lulu is still a wee bit sexy, even at 62. Maybe I need to speak to my therapist about that next week…

Anyway, Let’s Dance lays on the pensioner jokes pretty thick, with Lulu doing a VT about her salt-free diet and sitting in a stairlift with a neck brace on. So it’s a complete shock when Lulu comes out dressed as Soulja Boy for a version of Crank Dat. Holy shit, she’s limber. And she’s got the moves down to a T.

Best bit by far is when the backing dancers surround her and lift her up in Superman pose. Keith Lemon gives her a (well deserved) standing ovation. Brilliant stuff.

Lee Mack: “In the first dance, when we saw a flash of Penny’s Lulu, I thought that was as good as it gets. But now we’ve got the real thing, it’s absolutely brilliant. And the backing dancers, they’re brilliant. They’re so cool, that even with a t-shirt that says Lulu’s Boys, they still look cool.”

Jack Whitehall: “I’ve been a fan of contemporary urban hip-hop and gangsta music for some time, so that was spot on. And also you got into the role. You were probably quite intimidating. You wouldn’t look out of place on the night bus, terrorising the elderly. You were fierce. You brought the crank, and I don’t even know what that phrase means.”

Keith Lemon: “(sings) Don’t know much, but I know I love you… I know Richard Bacon. He’s got this Nandos card where you get chicken for free…it were amazin;.”

Interpretations of Keith Lemon’s comments are more than welcome – what the hell was he talking about?

The BBC must’ve burst their Photoshopping budget when they had Penny Smith‘s face superimposed on Britney Spears’ body in some of her most famous costumes. Yes, Penny’s pretending that she was Britney’s body double throughout her career.

Anyhoo…. *deep breath*

Penny hits the stage in a blue PVC airline hostess costume. Sadly the routine (and the costume) fails to excite on any level. Penny stares her way through the performance and her movements are incredibly wooden. Not that she was one of the frontrunners to begin with though.

Lee Mack: “I genuinely think we might’ve found the winner. I’m happy to go to the bar now. When Penny came on, I didn’t think her skirt could be more revealing, and then I found out it could when they picked her up. Great start to the show, and also a brilliant wink at the end, which I thought proves to Anne Robinson that you can do that and not freeze someone’s soul to the core.”

Jack Whitehall: “That was outstanding – it was a great way to start the show and without wishing to come over all Richard Keys-ey, the bit with the frilly pants was really sexy. Really brave.”

Keith Lemon: “Can’t tell you on telly what I’m thinking. I think you look FAF – fit as flip. I like your boots, I like your earrings and you’ve changed your hair, that looks nice. You look better like that than you do on telly normally. It was a good dance, and almost better than Britney Spears.”
