Craig Colton has denied reports that he is dating former X Factor contestant Danyl Johnson last night.

The current competitor was spotted out having dinner with the former teacher in London’s South Bank last week and so called insiders claimed they were a couple and had shared a number of romantic dates since meeting backstage a few weeks ago.

However, Craig insisted that they were only meeting to discuss his future music career and on The Xtra Factor, explained:

We met a few weeks ago on the show and we stayed friends. He’s been working with some amazing producers who I was quite interested in. That was what the day was about, we weren’t on a date.

Danyl has yet to make an official comment on the matter.

Craig also went on to explain that he has worked hard to retain his identity on the ITV show, so that when he finishes, people will know exactly what sort of album they can expect him to release. He added:

I think I had my identity when I came in. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and obviously through themes I have had to adjust. But I have tried to keep it close to what I would put on my album.

Colton has denied that he is in a relationship with Danyl Johnson.

The pair were spotted enjoying a dinner together this week, on London’s South Bank and so called insiders claimed that it was one of a number of romantic dates shared by the two men.

However, in an interview with ITN the Liverpudlian singer insisted he and the former X Factor contestant are just friends.

He claimed that they were only meeting up to talk about his plans for next year and explained:

It’s quite funny because it wasn’t a date, it was just a chance to meet up and talk about some music for next year and now it’s been made into a date.

Colton added:

He’s been working with some amazing producers, a few producers that I’d like to work with. So that was what the whole day was about but now it’s been turned into a date.

Asked if he would consider dating the bisexual singer, Craig laughed:

No he’s a good friend!

The intrusion into his personal life is one thing Craig finds tough about The X Factor and he admitted that he tries to keep his name out of the newspapers as much as possible.

The former biscuit factory worker said:

I’m not about being in the papers or trying to do certain things to get into them. It’s not for me.

This year’s big X Factor love story is not going to come from Amelia Lily and Frankie Cocozza but from a slightly more unlikely source it has been reported.

It has been claimed that Liverpudlian singer Craig Colton enjoyed a romantic night out with former contestant Danyl Johnson this week, after the pair were spotted sharing a quiet meal on London’s South Bank together.

The chubby crooner recently revealed that he was gay, after one of the singers from Nu Vibe outed him during a video interview. He claimed to be single but that may have changed as a source told The Sun:

“They’re very much the item. They’ve become inseparable and text non-stop when they’re not together.

“Everyone thought they were just swapping war stories from their experiences on the show, but it turns out it’s blossomed.”

Danyl paid a backstage visit to The X Factor just a few weeks ago, with fellow former contestant Lucie Jones. It is thought that the pair met then and hit it off immediately.

It has been claimed that the lived up duo have been out a number of times since, enjoying theatre dates and lunches whenever Craig has some free time in his schedule.

Danyl knows just how it feels to be outed unexpectedly too, after Dannii Minogue caused a furore in 2009, when she made a comment about his sexuality after one of his performances.

We haven’t heard much from Danyl Johnson since he competed in The X Factor in 2009, so it was quite surprising to discover this morning that he seems set for a new record deal.

The 29 year old singer celebrates his birthday today and insiders say that his management company have teamed him up with some big stars in America and are aggressively searching for a recording contract for their client.

A source told The Sun: “Danyl’s management have got him working with decent names.

“They are going to try to get him a US deal before cracking the UK.

“Some US labels have seen his first X Factor audition in promotional material for the American version and they were impressed.”

Danyl made quite a splash in America after his first audition was featured on the ITV show. Simon Cowell called his tryout ‘the best’ he’s ever seen and the next day, networks such as NBC showed clips and compared him to Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle. Within a week more than 1.2 million people had watched his audition on Youtube.

Earlier this year, while promoting his new American X Factor series, Simon Cowell used a clip of Dan’s audition in a video promo.

The former teacher left The X Factor in the semi-finals on 6 December 2009, receiving the fewest votes of the remaining finalists and thus finishing fourth.

Danyl is thought to be planning his debut album in New York, which he will release later this year having worked with artists such as Marc Broussard.

Joe McElderry and Danyl Johnson have both voiced their support for much derided X Factor contestant, Katie Waissel.

Former show winner Joe, has asked people to give the 24 year old a chance, before they decide that she didn’t deserve a place on the ITV competition.

‘Katie’s gone from being a receptionist to people calling her names,’ Joe told Newcastle’s Real Radio Breakfast Show, 19. ‘I’m like, “God, give her a chance, you know.”

‘It’s fair enough everybody having an opinion. But just give them a chance before you knock them down.’

Danyl Johnson, who suffered at the hands of the public and the media during last year’s series, also defended the 80′s fanatic, telling The Sun:

‘I wish that everyone would lay off her.’

Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson got up close and personal during their time in the X Factor house.

Cheeky Essex boy Olly Murs confessed to Gay Times that they used to enjoy games of ‘gay chicken’ when they lived together last winter.

25 year –old Olly, who appears on the front cover of the magazine in an unbuttoned wet shirt said: “Danyl was one of the people I was closest to in the house. We used to play ‘gay chicken’ together.

“Gay chicken is this game where you lean in to kiss someone and you await to see who turns away first.

“We were leaning in and laughing, but then Danyl actually closed his eyes! I’ve always been really open-minded. I don’t judge people.”

Olly who just signed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco and Epic added:

“I find myself with gay guys all the time! The ‘you can’t have me thing!’

Simon Cowell has passed on the chance to sign X Factor stars Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon and Danyl Johnson to his record label.

A source told The News Of The World: “Simon has decided he won’t have anything to do with them in a professional sense going forward.

“He doesn’t have anything against the guys but wants to concentrate on turning Joe McElderry into a star. They’ve got a contract with Butlins to perform at summer school holiday gigs. And they’re making £100,000 from The X Factor tour – but this is still a massive blow.”

Last night a spokeswoman for Cowell’s label Syco added: “We never guarantee contracts for anyone other than the X Factor winner and this year we’ve decided to focus on Joe.

“However, we understand there is interest in other finalists from many parts of the musical industry and we hope they all do very well.”

David Furnish has admitted that he was disappointed when Danyl Johnson got eliminated from The X Factor.

Furnish, whose long term partner is Elton John, added that he wasn’t sure why the judges were so hard on the 26 year old.

PA quote Furnish as saying: “I was very sad when Danyl got voted out – he was my favourite choice so I’m having to re-evaluate the final acts now to see who I’m going to back but I was very sad to see him go, I thought he was great.”

He added:

“I think he had a tough time from judges, because he has the X Factor, he’s an incredible singer, he’s a genuine talent and he has a real personality and I was sad to see him voted out.”

X Factor’s Danyl Johnson has insisted that he didn’t bully Stacey Solomon during his time on the show.

Danyl was eliminated from the ITV1 TV show last night and had previously been accused of reducing his fellow competitor to tears with his personal jibes.

However Danyl denied the rumours and told The Daily Mail:

“There might have been speculation about fights but it just wasn’t true. Stacey and I would laugh about it. It was funny.

‘And if I had been a bully or anything like that I would have been kicked out by X Factor bosses because they certainly wouldn’t have stood for it.’
