David Cook has claimed that his new song, has an Aerosmith vibe to it.

The 28 year old singer – who rose to fame after winning the seventh season of the reality television show American Idol – has said that “Take Me As I Am” from his new album ‘This Loud Morning’s', reminds him of Aerosmith’s ‘Dont’ Wanna Miss A Thing’.

Speaking in a video posted on his official website, Cook said:

“This is a lofty comparison, so I realize I might be shooting myself in the foot here but to me it kind of has an Aerosmith-Don’t Want to Miss a Thing kind of feeling to it…..especially in the bridge and going down to the G chord.”

“That song is going to be fun live”

The comparison isn’t so shocking when you consider the fact that the track’s co-writer Marti Frederiksen has worked with Aerosmith on a number of occasions and collaborated on both their tracks Nine Lives and Girls of Summer.

Simon Fuller received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame yesterday and lots of past and current American Idol stars showed up to help honour the show boss.

Judges Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson attended the glitzy event, as did show presenter Ryan Seacrest, past winners Carrie Underwood and David Cook, and this year’s season 10 finalists. Victoria Beckham, who worked with Simon during her Spice Girls days, and Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe were also in the crowd.

Paying tribute to the man who created the globally popular Idol format, Seacrest said:

“He is innovative, strategic, creative, kind, generous and, above all, he is a tremendous friend to all of us who have gotten to know him.”

Carrie Underwood, probably Idol’s most successful winner to date, also got her chance to speak from the podium and addressed Fuller saying:

“You have earned this, you deserve this more than anybody I know. On behalf of all the lives you have changed forever, thank you so much.”

Simon then finally got the chance to respond and on accepting the honour bestowed on him, he said:

“You have no idea how bizarre, strange, awkward and many other words I feel right now because I’m usually sitting over there, or back there, or up there, and very rarely find myself in the spotlight.”

He jokingly added:

“Actually it’s great. I think I should do my own reality show.”

David Cook has admitted that he loves the new American Idol judges Steve Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

The 28 year old singer – who won the seventh season of the reality TV show – was speaking to Entertainment Tonight when he admitted that he’d love to appear on this year’s series and meet the new stars.

Praising the new lineup – which was revealed after Simon Cowell left to launch his own X Factor show – David said:

“I love what they bring to the table. I think Steven Tyler’s a riot. So hopefully I get to come on the show this year and meet them.”

However Cook still misses his old pal Cowell and admitted:

“I miss turning on the TV and seeing Simon. I don’t miss having Simon critique me, however, which is a big difference.”

David recently covered the Simple Minds hit song Don’t You (Forget About Me) and it will now be used as the 2011 send-off song. The track will be played whenever a contestant on American Idol 10 is eliminated.

Former American Idol winner David Cook has been talking about his recent trip to Ethiopia, for this weeks American Idol charity based show ‘Idol Gives Back.’ While in Ethiopia, Cook visited the United Nations’ Biruh Tesfa (Bright Future) Project to see firsthand how the UN Foundation is supporting the work of the UN to educate and empower girls.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the “Come Back to Me” singer revealed that he was shocked by what he saw in the African country, but not in the way he expected to be. He said:

“I have to say I was completely shocked by this country in an extremely positive way. When you hear Africa, I immediately think impoverished and everything that goes with that. But I came here, and the people here are so amazingly sweet. They are such nice people, very accommodating and get that we are out here trying to help. The city itself, Addis Ababa, is beautiful – really lush, very green. It definitely has an infrastructure in place. I think it’s just a matter that they just need that kind of boost in the right direction.”

On why he decided to go to Ethiopia David added:

“I think, specifically, to come out here and work with the Biruh Tesfa School and the initiative set up by the UN and the UN Foundation. I wanted to be involved with this program specifically because women are the backbone of society, in my opinion. Every family has a matriarch, and they are the glue that holds that family together. You have to give these girls a basis, you have to give them a platform with which to start from. I don’t think anybody can deny that education plays such an important role just across the board, and the fact that that’s not a right for these girls, but in a lot of cases it’s a privilege, that’s pretty abhorrent. So that was a major mitigating factor for me. That’s why I wanted to get involved.”

Teen sensation Justin Bieber, former winner Carrie Underwood, as well as Alicia Keys, the Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox and Jeff Beck will also appear on Idol Gives Back this Wednesday in order to raise money for the following charities: Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children and the United Nations Foundation.

On his memories of the Idol Gives Back show that aired during his year on the show Cook added:

“I actually remember specifically, on my season when we did Idol Gives Back, that we all snuck up to the balcony and got a chance to watch, from the front of the house, Annie Lennox’s performance. It was just her on the piano, and in the background, they were showing images of children, and it just tore me apart. I think to have that kind of visual moment when everything kind of clicks and you realize that my reality is not their reality, it really puts you in a position where you want to help, and so from that point on I was just kind of chomping at the bit to get involved with Idol Gives Back. This couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Former American Idol winner David Cook has admitted that he hopes to debut a new single on this year’s season of the show.

The 27 year old singer finished first in season seven and has been working on material for his third album since January. Admitting that while he would love to launch a track from the album on Idol, he added that he won’t rush a song just for the promotional benefits. David told Entertainment Weekly:

Well, we’re working on it, and it’s definitely something I’m cognizant of. I would love to be able to debut a single on Idol this year. But at the same time we certainly don’t want to rush anything. Rest assured, we’re trying very, very hard. I can give a definite maybe at this point.

When asked if it was better than a 50-50 chance, Cook replied:

It really is a coin flip right now. I would say no, it’s not better than 50-50, but it’s not worse than that either.

David also revealed the names of a few people he will be collaborating with on his newest record. He said:

I actually worked on a few songs now with a couple guys from the UK: Jim Irvin and Julian Emery . We did a song called “Paper Heart” and one called “We Believe.” And we just finished a song yesterday called “Alibi.”

I’m gonna write with Zac Maloy, the guy who I wrote “Lie” and “Life on the Moon” with for the last record, and he also wrote “Come Back to Me.” And then I think we’re talking about Ryan Tedder the end of this month or early next month.

If the album includes a Ryan Tedder power ballad, we’ll definitely be buying a copy!

Former American Idol winner David Cook returned to the show last night and in keeping with the Rolling Stones theme, he gave a rocking performance of ‘Jumping Jack Flash.’

The left handed guitarist, complete with rock band put his own stamp on the iconic track and proved that unless the contestants improve drastically very soon, this season may not provide a winner nearly as good!

Former American Idol winner David Cook and pop singer Ke$ha have been lined up to perform on this week’s AI results show.

Cook, who recently returned from a songwriting trip to Sweden, revealed the news to his followers on Twitter saying:

“Oh and I brought a present back for everyone. We’ll be performing on idol this wednesday! Be sure to check it out!”

Ke$ha also announced her performance on Twitter writing:

“Party time american idol woot t minus 3 dayz.”

It sounds like it this week’s results show will be chock full of musical goodness, with reports also suggesting that ‘This Is It’ singer-guitarist Orianthi may perform and the final 12 contestants will of course giving us a group performance of a classic Rolling Stones track. Bring it on!

American idol season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood feels that Simon Cowell is getting nicer as he gets older.

“I think Simon has actually got a wee bit nicer over the past couple of years,” she said, speaking at the launch of the American Idol Experience attraction at Disneyworld, Florida.

“He’s always been pretty nice to me and I think it’s really good that somebody will give you a dose of reality even if it might be said in a harsh manner. I can think of nicer ways to say things than he tells them, but it’s nice that he’s got a very strong opinion and he does voice it.”

Last year’s American Idol winner, David Cook was also full of praise for the man often called Mr Nasty.

“The first couple of weeks I was on the show, Simon and I did not see eye to eye,” he revealed.

“As soon as I took a step back and realised that everything he said was constructive, as mean as it might be, we got along fine. So if anybody asks me who my favourite judge is, I’m always going to say Simon.”

I decided to watch American Idol tonight. We’ve been dipping in and out of it for a few of the live shows, but it’s time to commit! If you’re watching American Idol, drop me a line in the comments and let me know what you thought.

The theme this week seems to be 80′s songs. Here’s my run-down of each performance.

Luke Menard – Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go: A good, clean performance from Luke. I like the clarity of his voice, but ironically he couldn’t ‘hit that high’ and frequently lost control of his pitch during the song. Cue Randy Jackson’s favourite comment – it was a little bit pitchy. Paula loved loved loved his interpretation of the song. Simon – predictably – thought it was weak and girly. In his nastiest comment of the night he said he didn’t think Luke would get past the night.

David Archuleta – Another Day In Paradise: David’s a youthful 17 years old, so taking on a Phil Collins song might have been a big mistake! He started off at the piano, then went to standing at the front of the stage. My feeling was that the singing was a bit weak.

Randy didn’t think the song choice showed off David’s vocal range, while Paula fawned over him. Simon’s venerable opinion was that the music was far too gloomy, so he told him to lighten up a little bit.

Danny Noriega – Tainted Love: Could Danny be this year’s Sanjaya? He seems like he’s all hair and mincing around. Randy seemed to pick up on this and noted that he wasn’t vocally confident at the start. Flakey Paula spent as much time critiquing his haircut as reviewing his performance. Lord Cowell called it like we saw it – horrible. Far too camp for my liking.

David Hernandez – It’s All Coming Back To Me Now: Oh yeah! Dudes singing Celine Dion songs – that’s what I’m talking about! David was a tiny bit shouty in his performance – not so much singing as bellowing.

King of Pitch, Randy Jackson pointed out some…pitching problems. Paula said nothing worth repeating. Simon said that he didn’t like it as much as last week, but that he’d secured a place for next week.

Michael Johns – Don’t You Forget About Me: Moderate rocker Michael takes on the Simple Minds classic performed in the style of the dearly departed Michael Hutchence. Not bad at all, if a little pedestrian.

Woo-hoo! Randy did exactly the same comparison to Hutchence. Paula said something, sounded a bit like “blah blah blah”. Simon doesn’t think that he’s found the right song for him yet, but says that he really really likes him. But maybe to stick to soul material rather than act like a wannabe rocker.

David Cook – Hello: Left-handed guitarists freak me out. David is no exception, it’s just not natural dude. After a rough start, David pulls of a sensitive and soulful rendition over a warmly distorted guitar. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Randy quipped that he made a “slightly emo version of an extremely pop Lionel Ritchie song”. Simon loved it. Simple as that. He said he liked it when people took risks. Did I miss a judge? Don’t think so.

Jason Castro – Hallelujah: takes on Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley or ‘that song from Shrek’ depending on your age. And he managed it beautifully, and that’s despite the simpering face he kept pulling during the song.

Randy thought he did a great job and a good choice not to come out with the guitar. Paula thought Jason showed great vulnerability and had great phrasing and technique. Simon thinks he’s improving and said it was one of the best performances of the night.

Chikezie – : The no-surnamed Chikezie chooses to play Whitney’s All The Man That I Need. It doesn’t seem to last long at all. A smooth soul performance.

Randy seemed surprised by the end note. Paula complimented Chickezie’s vocals, but Simon said it didn’t work for him and said it was a cabaret performance.
