Dermot O’Leary has admitted that he is keen to keep presenting the British version of The X Factor and is not eyeing up the free spot on the American series.

The hunky presenter had of course put his name in the hat, when Simon Cowell was looking for a star to host his US series last year but was snubbed when the music mogul picked Welsh presenter Steve Jones over him.

Dermot got the last laugh though, as Steve was dropped from the reality TV show last week but when asked in a recent interview if he would be trying for the role again, O’Leary confessed:

“I would doubt it.”

He added:

“I don’t want to talk about another person’s job because it’s not good politics and I love doing the UK show – that’s where my heart is.”

It’s lucky he feels that way, as last month Simon hinted that he would be looking for an American to front the second season of the show, confessing that he may have overdone the whole Brit thing on the first run.

Dermot also revealed that he is hoping he will be asked to return to the ITV show for the 2012 series, for which auditions will kick off this May.

it’s a bit early yet to be talking about signings and the star admitted that no contracts have yet been exchanged, but he is hopeful that he will be opening each show with a spin, when the series returns this August.

He explained: “I had a really good year last year, so of course I hope to do it, but I’m not the sort of person to tempt fate.

“If I said, ‘Yeah, I’m coming back’ but I’m not signed on the dotted line, I’d look stupid, so I’d never say that.”

Dermot O’Leary has every right to feel a little smug about the recent axing of Steve Jones from the X Factor USA, after all he went for the job himself and was snubbed by Simon Cowell in favour of the Welsh hunk.

However the soon to be married star insists that he took no pleasure in people’s constant criticism of Steve and his presenting style and after hearing that the handsome star had been axed from the hit Fox talent show, Dermot told The Daily Star:

“I don’t pay attention to the criticism Steve got.That did not bother me.”

O’Leary added:

“I’ve just come back from holiday and when you are away you realise how inconsequential people’s views are.”

Steve revealed on Twitter last week that the rumours were true and he wouldn’t be returning to The X Factor for it’s 2012 series.

However he wasn’t alone in being axed, as Simon Cowell later confirmed that both Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger would also be replaced on the panel.

It has been rumoured that Cowell is now in talks with a number of stars about joining the panel in their place and names in the frame include Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.

Dermot O’Leary has admitted that he doesn’t know if he’ll be back on The X Factor this year but he will find out within just a few short weeks.

The hunky presenter has fronted the ITV show since he took over from Kate Thornton in 2007, however with all the shake ups and changes that Simon Cowell has been talking about, he knows that his role on the series is never secure.

Speaking to The Sun, Dermot admitted that he doesn’t know if he’ll be back at the helm for 2012 and explained:

“I’ve not signed yet. The next month or so will be telling. I’ll either be doing it or I won’t. You never know. That’s the thing working for Simon [Cowell] and working on that show.

“If you had told me this time last year that he, Cheryl and Dannii wouldn’t be there, I would have said, ‘You’re insane’.”

Dermot has a busy year ahead and is currently planning his wedding to long term girlfriend Dee Koppang and it sounds like he’ll get on ok without Simon Cowell if he loses his job.

O’Leary added: “I’ve got a lot of other things to do this year. I’m getting married, so need to juggle all these things. But X Factor kicks off earlier for me than everyone else as I’m on board a bit before the judges, so we’ll see.”

Ant and Dec have once again hit success on the National Television Awards.

Tonight the Geordie duo – best known as the hosts of Britain’s Got Talent, Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent – beat Keith Lemon, Dermot O’Leary and Michael McIntyre to win in the category of ‘Best Entertainment Presenter’.

The boys may be used to scooping awards but they were as humble as ever as they accepted their trophy from Kermit The Frog and Dec said:

Thank you, we have been lucky enough to win a couple of these over the last few years and every time sitting there and hearing your name being read out, it feels like the first time we ever won it again. We are just so honoured and humbled to have gotten your votes again for this we really are. Thank you so much.

Ant added:

I want to say a massive thank you to Sir Bruce Forsythe for allowing us to come on and do the opening with him and if we have a career half as long and half as successful as him, then we’ll both be very happy.

Arlene Phillips has given her expert opinion on Dermot O’Leary’s dance routines over the last few X Factor live shows.

What started out as a bit of a joke, turned into a tradition and on tonight’s final in Wembley, the hunky presenter emerged onstage to give a London themed dance routine, with a whole troupe of sexy dancers. We have the video here if you missed it.

On ITV2′s Xtra Factor, Caroline Flack and Olly Murs had a treat for Dermot, as they praised his gyrations and welcomed former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips on to pass her judgement on his talent.

The So You Think You Can Dance star raved:

I have been watching you from the first time you took those baby steps but tonight, you were hip swiveling, full on dancing and moving those boogie shoes!

When asked to score O’Leary she laughed:

I really thought about it and because I want Dermot to keep working on his dancing and come back next series with some hot moves, I’ve decided to give him an eight.

However, Dermot disappointed legions of fans by declaring:

There is no dancing next series, I promise you!

Dermot O’Leary delivered yet another cheesy dance routine on tonight’s X Factor, but we loved every minute of it!

The presenter’s big entrance was on a grander scale than usual and viewers were treated to a montage of clips showing the hunk strutting his stuff around London.

He danced down the Millenium Bridge, through Piccadily Circus and when he was trying to jump into a black cab In the city’s West End, guess who he met….none other than former contestant Goldie Cheung.

Dermot then entered the stage of Wembley Arena in the taxi and continued his little routine for the 10,000 string audience. We loved his interaction with his sexy backing dancers and though the newly engaged star says he won’t be doing the dancing thing next year, after this we would have to beg him to reconsider!

The hunky presenter has performed a whole host of short dance routines at the start of each live show for the last few weeks and this weekend, he is planning to close the series with a band.

The Daily Star has revealed that tomorrow night, viewers will be treated to a montage of clips featuring Dermot dancing in front of a number of famous London sights. The tourist destinations will include The London Eye and Big Ben and of course, a double decker red bus.

A source said: “Dermot has been opening the weekend live shows doing a little dance routine on stage, so we thought this would be a fun way to kick off the final.”

Dermot O’Leary has admitted that for the first time ever, he cannot predict this year’s X Factor winner.

Speaking at a press conference in London this morning, the hunky presenter admitted that every other year he has had a clear idea of who would triumph, as there has always been one stand out contestant in the mix.

However this year the newly engaged star can’t choose between Marcus Collins, Amelia Lily and Little Mix and told reporters that for the first time in his five years as host, he “can’t really call the winner.”

At the event, all the judges were asked if they would like to return to the show in 2012 and though Kelly Rowland looked slightly reticent, all four said they would like to make a comeback on the panel.

Louis Walsh admitted though that as yet, nothing has been confirmed and told the press:

“We absolutely know nothing about next year”

We have loved Dermot O’Leary’s X Factor dance routines over the last few weeks and are elated to hear that he’s planning something even bigger for the final next month.

This year’s series of the ITV show draws to a close in just under two weeks time and the host admitted that his little dance segments at the opening of the Saturday night specials have been so popular, that when the final three contestants hit Wembley Arena, he is going to get his groove on!

“It started off as a bit of fun and has just grown,” Dermot told The Mirror, adding:

“I think we’ll keep doing it until the final and maybe we’ll try something bigger to finish.”

The X Factor final will also feature duets between the show’s finalists and some of the music world’s biggest stars. It had been reported that Adele would perform, however her manager has since denied the rumour and Coldplay were allegedly going to sing with Janet Devlin but she has now been eliminated.

Also linked to the series finale is Michael Buble, who is reportedly keen to duet with Liverpudlian star Marcus Collins.

Dermot O’Leary will be hearing wedding bells very soon, as he revealed that he wants to marry his fiancee Dee Koppang within the year.

The X Factor host revealed that he travelled all the way to America to propose to his girlfriend of ten years, when she was working in New York.

Speaking on This Morning, Dermot said: “She was working over there and I flew over.”

On when the big day will be, Dermot added:

“Hopefully next year. But we’re really happy – it’s a lovely feeling.”"

The delectable star also spoke about his weekly dance routines on The X Factor, which have become quite the hit with show fans.

He added: “It’s firmly tongue-in-cheek, I don’t actually think I can dance.

“The problem is Ray, the choreographer, honestly thinks I can.

“I think we’ll do it until the end of this series and then knock it on the head.”
