Elaine Paige has admitted that she worries about Susan Boyle and other reality TV stars, saying that their fast track to fame is quite an intense one.
Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle named Elaine as her icon last year and the pair performed together on an ITV show in December 2009. When asked about the 49-year-old on BBC Breakfast this morning, the musical theatre star said:
Piers Morgan has hit out at singer Elaine Paige, after she compared Susan Boyle to “a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond.”
Paige has since claimed that her comments were misquoted by the Daily Mail and insisted that she was referring to Susan’s rise to fame and not to her personally.
Morgan refused to accept her explanation and in his Daily Mail column wrote: “Elaine Paige has come out with some extraordinarily bitchy remarks about Susan Boyle, saying she’s a ‘virus’ that she ‘doesn’t feel any pride for’.

Last night, she told The Daily Mail: ‘I wasn’t referring to Susan herself; I was referring to the speed of her fame spreading as fast as a worldwide viral marketing campaign.’
Elaine Paige has branded Britain’s Got Talent Susan Boyle ‘a virus’, despite the fact that Susan has named her as her biggest icon on numerous occasions.
Evita star Paige was at the South Bank Show awards when she described the Scottish singer as “a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond.”
She added: “Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor just take a bunch of people from real life who think they can sing and try and turn them into overnight “stars” with a couple of songs.
Susan Boyle has been able to fulfil a lifelong dream this week, as she recorded a duet with her idol Elaine Paige.
As part of the upcoming ITV show, I Dreamed A Dream: The Susan Boyle Story, Susan sings the Chess song ‘I Know Him So Well’ with Elaine. During her first audition for Britain’s Got Talent, Susan told Simon Cowell that she wanted to be as successful as Elaine.
