Rory Bremner has started his Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals and admitted that he is incredibly nervous about his first performance.

The impressionist and comedian was paired with blonde beauty Erin Boag on last Saturday’s launch show and speaking about how their first day of practice went, he admitted:

I think after the euphoria and the fake tan have faded from show one, then the nerves kind of come back in and take up residence, but Erin is so calm and reassuring and you just think just go with it, trust her and enjoy it, she’s brilliant.

She loves working with him too, but confessed that he does have a lot to remember and she is slightly concerned that he’ll fall apart due to stage fright on the night. Erin added:

It was my first day today with Rory and he is just a delight. The first few steps are always the most difficult, you’ve got to learn posture and frame and what foot goes where…..so right now he’s got so much to think about that he doesn’t feel like he’s going to get it.

I think we’re going to be ok, but then he could always suffer stage fright.

Erin Boag has admitted that her ideal ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partner would be the delectable Prince Harry.

The professional ballroom dancer – who has starred in all eight previous series’ of the BBC dance competition – has confessed that she would love the red headed royal to agree to appear on the show and of course, if he did, she’d want to partner him.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m sworn to secrecy over the next series. I wouldn’t mind Prince Harry as my dancing partner though.

“I tried phoning him the other day but he must have been busy.”

The show’s very own Mr Nasty Craig Revel Horwood recently commented that he’d also quite like to have Harry and his older brother William on the show because he thinks they would already have brushed up on their dance moves for William’s wedding to Duchess Catherine in April.

He said: “I’d like to see royalty on the show, like Wills or Harry. I think they would be absolutely fabulous.

“William must have a million waltzes up his sleeve now.”

Other celebrities linked to the new series include Chris Tarrant, Fern Britton and Anita Dobson.

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Peter Shilton was the second person to take to the big BBC dancefloor tonight.

The former football star took on the salsa with his partner Erin Boag and after we got over the extreme brightness of her hideous outfit, we realised that it was going to be a poor routine. Peter dances worse than my dad, after ten pints of beer, at a family wedding. I think that he even managed to make Erin look bad tonight!

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Len: The salsa is all about fun, rhythm and hip action and we saw some fun and chemistry. But there was a lot of it when you were standing around for too long. It was a bar ave attempt but not your best. (5)

Alesha: I don’t think Latin is your strongpoint but you seem more confident this week. (5)

Bruno: I don;t klnow if it was a wise decision to draw attention to your bum with that football. You tried, but it went wrong so many times that it is impossible to overlook. (4)

Craig: Very stomping, the step together were deliberate and childlike and the walk looked like you’d broken your ankle. (3)

Sky1’s entertaining documentary sees two of the UK’s most respected dancers putting their reputations to the test, and on the line. Celebrity dancers ANTON DU BEKE and ERIN BOAG (Strictly Come Dancing) will select a team of dance rookies aged 14 to16 from a typical inner city comprehensive then have just four weeks to train the novices from scratch, to a high performance standard. The ‘students’ will then have to perform a dynamic dance routine at a major gala event to a packed house at the prestigious Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Anton and Erin have played a huge part in the country’s renewed passion for the rumba, the tango and the Viennese waltz. They’re passionate about the potential of ballroom dancing and their outstanding talent and professionalism will definitely be invaluable to the 12 teenagers. However, this uplifting two-part series looks at the bigger picture; can ballroom dancing have a lot more to offer than glitz, glamour and celebs in sequins?

BALLROOM HIGH is inspired by the admirable story of dance teacher Pierre Dulane. He decided to introduce ballroom dancing to kids in some of New York’s toughest schools as a way of teaching them the value of discipline, respect and essentially, to give the pupils a sense of achievement. Pierre’s initiative was so successful it was expanded into a national programme in American high schools, and was the inspiration behind the Hollywood movie Take The Lead, starring Antonio Banderas.

This is a great opportunity for Sky1 to work with the very best in the business. Anton and Erin will bring their unlimited passion to this entertaining yet emotional journey for them and the students. BALLROOM HIGH proves that it takes more that steps to make a good dancer as each student will test every one of their emotions to the very limits.

Anton and Erin have been dancing together for over 10 years, have won numerous championships, and currently coach the number one UK Junior and Youth couple. The flawless dancerswant to follow in Dulane’s footsteps and bring ballroom to British schools. They are fervent believers that a good dance partnership is about much more than rhythm and good moves: dancers must trust, respect and understand each other.

Anton commented: “I really enjoyed the process; they’ve been lovely to work with. We required three things from them when we started: a commitment to what we were doing, responsibility to what they’re doing and respect for us, their dance partners and the group as a whole. These are the things we’ve been banging on about ever since we started and by and large I think we’ve got that.”

Erin went on to add: “This has been a massive challenge for Anton and I. We’ve had our ups and downs with the kids and teaching them to dance has been the easy part. What we also wanted to give them was respect, the ability to work as team, social etiquette and manners. And we’ve set them goals as we’ve gone along which they’ve achieved, so we’ve shown them that if you work hard at something you can be successful.”
