Alan Titchmarsh has hit out at “puerile” reality TV shows, saying real life is more excited that anything in these series’.

The gardener and chat show star told The Sun that while he has some respect for formats like Strictly Come Dancing, where contestants learn a real skill, he finds I’m A Celebrity and that genre of shows ‘dreary.’

Alan said:

“I think a lot of reality TV is puerile. I mean, Strictly Come Dancing is great – you learn how to dance.

“But to go to the other end, to put people in the jungle – I mean, I know it’s popular and people want to watch it, fair enough. But from my point of view it’s rather dreary. There’s a much more exciting life going on out there.”

Titchmarsh also claimed that TV channels are targetting young people with their programming and ignoring it’s middle aged audience.

“I think the middle-aged audience is very badly served sometimes,” he asserted. “It’s treated abominably by broadcasters who just think that the only audience worth going for is youth.

“I think advertisers underestimate the power of middle-aged and older people. Make your product good and convince them. As a viewer I get irritated when it’s geared all to the younger person.”

Shaun Ryder has been forced to postpone the remaining planned dates on his UK tour.

The I’m A Celebrity star has fallen ill due to an ongoing thyroid complaint and NME reports that he is too unwell to perform and will reschedule the shows for a later date.

Promoters SJM Concerts said in a statement: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regrettably have to postpone the Shaun Ryder tour.

“Shaun has suffered with his thyroid condition for a while now, and unfortunately he has been prescribed the incorrect medication which has left unable to continue. We will be re-arranging dates when Shaun is back to full health again.”

Dates for the new shows have not yet been released but fans are assured that their original tickets will still be valid.

Stacey Solomon and Shaun Ryder opened tonight’s National Television Awards ceremony with an amusing collaboration.

The X Factor star and Happy Monday’s singer were last year’s King and Queen of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity ……Get Me Out Of Here but returned to their roots tonight with an impressive vocal performance…..well Stacey’s was good anyway!

During the ceremony at London’s O2 Arena, Stacey started off the singing with a low key rendition of ‘Feeling Good’. The song then ran into a duet of the Happy Mondays hit ‘Step On’, which Shaun first had a number five hit with in 1990.

Later in the show Solomon returned to the stage to accept a gong for I’m A Celebrity, which was named Most Popular Entertainment show.

I’m A Celeb presenters Ant and Dec won the gong for Most Popular Entertainment Presenter, in the awards voted for by TV viewers. It was the Geordie duo’s tenth year winning the award and the pair thanked their fans via a video link, as they are both in Cardiff this week filming for Britain’s Got Talent.

Stuart Baggs ‘The Brand’ has revealed that he hopes to land a role on another reality TV show.

The former ‘Apprentice’ candidate – who became notorious for his hilarious catchphrases on the BBC One series in 2010 – admitted that since the series aired, he has been inundated with offers from various TV companies and is particularly interested in appearing on next year’s ‘Dancing On Ice’.

He said: “Life is Brand-tastic to be honest. ‘The Apprentice’ has changed my life. I was planning on going back to my business and putting ‘The Apprentice’ to bed. But then production companies started calling and asking whether I’d considered doing any more TV, so we’ll see whether anything takes my fancy.

“I imagine it would be along the lines of going to the jungle or ‘Dancing On Ice’. I would actually love to do that, I’d put rockets on my skates and skate through fire. I actually want to go on that show. It’d be much better than eating bugs.”

However, the cocky businessman admitted he doesn’t expect to be particularly popular with viewers, as he’s a self confessed “c**k”.

Stuart added to Digital Spy: “The public already have their opinion of me and when you start at rock bottom it can’t really get much worse. I’m just as bad in real life. If people hate me it’s for a good reason – it’s because I’m a c**k.

“I gage the public’s reaction with what they throw at me, whether it’s sandwiches or bricks I’ll know just how much they hate me. My biggest problem in life is people throwing food at me.

Stacey Solomon has admitted that she hates to watch herself on TV.

The X Factor star – who won ‘I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!’ last November – cringes when she watches herself because she can’t control her facial expressions and hasn’t got the “most appealing voice”.

She explained: “I hate seeing myself on TV – I haven’t got the most appealing voice and I don’t have loads of control over my face.”

However despite not enjoying seeing herself on TV shows, the Dagenham mum of one admitted she would love to become a regular presenter on ‘Xtra Factor’ because she can relate to contestants after coming third on the ITV1 show in 2009.

She said: “Presenting the ‘Xtra Factor’ would be really fun. I know what the contestants are going through, so I could relate to everyone on it. ‘X Factor’ is the hard bit – and ‘Xtra Factor’ is just a laugh.”

Stacey also revealed her former ‘X Factor’ mentor Danni Minogue has stayed in touch with her and even congratulated her on being crowned queen of the jungle at the end of last year.

She added to Star magazine: “She is so supportive. When I came out of the jungle, she was so happy and texted me to say: ‘Well done’. My sister threw me a party for close friends and family, and Danni recorded a video message. I nearly cried. She is one of the nicest women in the world.”

Stacey Solomon has admitted that she would like to front her own entertainment show.

The mum of one finished in third place on the 2009 series of X Factor and won last year’s I’m A Celebrity crown. Now that her career is on the up, she has revealed that she wants to try her hands at some presenting work later this year.

Stacey told Star magazine:

“There are so many things I want to do like TV presenting – I’d love to have my own show. That would be so cool!

“I’d love to do a dating show like BlindDate or Take Me Out – ‘No likey, no lighty!’

“Or something like The Paul O’Grady Show – it’s a great show as it involves the audience and is fun.

“Presenting the Xtra Factor would be really fun.

“I know what the contestants are going through, so I could relate to everyone on it. X Factor is the hard bit – and Xtra Factor is just a laugh.”

Stacey Solomon is preparing to release a book she penned about her life.

The young mum of one finished in third place on the 2009 series of X Factor and won last year’s I’m A Celebrity crown.

In an interview with The Sun’s Buzz magazine she admitted that she wants to tell people all about her eventful life. She said:

“I can’t call it an autobiography because I’ve only been on this planet for about two minutes…It’s just the story so far. I just want to write down everything that I’ve done and then people can see it – if they want to.”

On why she decided to take part in I’m A Celebrity – with all it’s disgusting challenges – Stacey added:

“People asked me why I was doing I’m a Celebrity only a year after The X Factor. But I don’t want to feel I’m too good for anything, because I’m not. How do I know that a year from now people will want to see me do anything ever again?”

On what the future holds for her career, Solomon revealed that she’d like to land a job presenting The Xtra Factor and record with Professor Green or Lily Allen.

Jenny Eclair has admitted that she found her experience on ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ very “childish”.

The TV funny woman – who finished in third place behind Stacey Solomon and Shaun Ryder on the ITV1 reality show last year – admitted a lot of the jungle dramas between her and the other contestants were often “just a bit of panto”.

She said: “I refuse to go on an emotional journey. A lot of it was quite childish so you could think, ‘This is just a bit of panto’.

“I’m not a shy and retiring violet. If you’ve spent 30 years as a stand-up comic you’re not thin-skinned.”

Despite taking a lot of things that happened in the camp on the chin, 50-year-old Jenny – who is famed for her role in ‘Grumpy Old Women’ – thinks Playboy model Kayla Collins found her “hideous”.

She added to Hello! magazine: “It’s true – Kayla found me hideous. She saw me as proof of how a woman should not let herself go.”

Now that his ex-wife Cheryl Cole seems fully committed to a new man Derek Hough, love rat Ashley has decided to move his new girlfriend into his Surrey mansion.

The Chelsea star has been dating Kayla Collins since she returned from the I’m A Celebrity jungle late last year. Although insiders claimed that their relationship had become strained in recent weeks, because of Ashley’s lingering feelings for X Factor judge Cheryl, it would seem that they are determined to make a go of it and Kayla is now said to be preparing to move into the pair’s former marital home.

A source told The Mirror:

“Ashley and Kayla are totally loved-up.

“She never thought she’d fall so hard, so quickly for someone but they get on really well. Kayla was gutted when she had to go back to LA for Christmas without him – they were in touch throughout the festive period.

“Ashley thinks she is so down-to-earth and is looking forward to just chilling with her at home. After training, they can just hang out, be together and have a laugh.

“Cheryl is moving out and Ashley will go back home. So it’s a new start for everyone.”

We think Kayla and Cheryl should give eaach other tips on their new homes and countries, as when the Playboy model moves to the UK, Chez is planning to go the other way and shack up with her new man Derek Hough in LA.

ITV, bosses have apologised for the killing of a rat during filming for reality TV show, I’m A Celebrity.

Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo and Hollyoaks star Stuart Manning have been charged with alleged animal cruelty after they killed, cooked and ate the rat.

A spokesman for ITV said:

“The production was asked if a rat could be caught and eaten by the celebrities in exile camp to supplement the basic rations they had been provided with for their evening meal,” the spokesman said.

“Having sought health and safety advice, the go-ahead was given purely on this basis, when it became clear that there would not be any harmful effects of eating a properly prepared and cooked rat.

“The production was unaware that killing a rat could be an offence, criminal or otherwise, in New South Wales and accepts that further inquiries should have been made — this was an oversight.

“ITV apologises for this error, and to the celebrities concerned, and will put in place procedures for next year’s series to ensure that this cannot happen again.”

The Sun reports that ITV bosses have also admitted that the rat was a tame one which they bought from a local breeder and released into camp.
