This years series of Celebrity Big Brother has reignited my love affair with Big Brother’s Big Mouth.

When Russell Brand hosted the show I watched it religiously, even on nights when I missed the main Big Brother highlights themselves. But since Russell moved on to bigger and better things, the program and it’s guest hosts just got worse and worse. George Galloway was faintly amusing but seriously wooden and though James Corden and Matthew Horne were capable and entertaining I just didn’t feel that their humour was quick enough to make the most of the audience and guests responses to the show.

This year Channel 4 took a big risk on a relatively unknown and very young presenter, Jack Whitehall. Jack, 20, presented Big Mouth for a short period during the summer of 2008 and during that time BB bosses said they knew they had found their man for the Celebrity series.

Jack is not unlike Russell Brand in his style of presenting. He basically takes the piss out of everyone on the show, but what I like most is the speed of his put downs. I am not a naturally witty person. If someone slags me, it takes at least ten minutes for me to think of a retort and even then its a pretty pants one. If I could buy what Jack has in a bottle I would be ordering it from eBay by the crate-load,

On last night’s show Russell was landed with a very drunk Lee Ryan as a panellist. That, combined with Caprice who kept insisting that she didn’t really have an opinion on any of the housemates, could have made for a very dull and awkward show but Jack pulled it around and had the audience in stitches of laughter. Some internet forums have been buzzing today with people criticising Jack’s insulting behaviour towards Lee on last night’s show, but really if Lee knew he was going to be on Big Mouth last night he could have a) stayed sober and b) watched the show in advance. He deserved everything he got!

Jack Whitehall is the new Russell Brand, or he hopes he is anyway as he takes over Brands launchpad, Big Brother’s Big Mouth.

Jack has been chatting about what calibre of housemate he’d like to see enter the house tonight and ideally he’d like to see some obnoxious housemates in there….I say his wish will probably come true!

Jack commented:

“It’s always good to see, you want your fair share of obnoxious people and there is always the airhead bimbo moron and that’s good to have but then I think it kind of promotes that culture of, ‘oh they are really funny because they don’t think before they speak’, – it’s like, they’re not, they’re an idiot, so you’ve got to get the right gauge between someone that’s kind of loveable and stupid and just retarded and then somewhere in the middle they’re that nice, perfect Celebrity Big Brother housemate,” he said.
