Jeff Brazier on ITV's Dancing On Ice

Jeff Brazier made no secret of his desire to land the Xtra Factor presenter role earlier this year.

The Dancing On Ice star spoke on many occasions about the X Factor spinoff show, claiming that he would be perfect for the job. However, now that his pal Olly Murs landed the role instead and will now front the ITV2 show alongside Caroline Flack, he insists that he’s happy for the singer.

Jeff told The Sun’s Buzz magazine:

“Olly’s a mate of mine and I want him to do well.”

However, if he doesn’t, Brazier wouldn’t say no to replacing the cheeky chappy! He added:

“But I wouldn’t say no to replacing him later on if the producers asked me.”

No sign of jealously there then!

Jeff Brazier has admitted that while he was disappointed not to have landed a job fronting this year’s Xtra Factor series, he does not hold a grudge against Olly Murs who landed the role.

The former Dancing On Ice contestant had made no secret of the fact that he was desperate to present the X Factor spinoff show on ITV2, however, last month it was announced that bosses had hired one of their own past competitors, Olly Murs, for the job alongside I’m A Celebrity Get me Out of Here Now presenter Caroline Flack.

Speaking to the Sun about the news, Jeff said:

“I knew a few weeks before the decision was made that I was out of the running.

“But I’m not disappointed. Caroline’s a wonderful presenter and Olly is my friend so I could never begrudge him.”

He is now hoping to land a job on Channel 5′s new Big brother series.

Jeff Brazier reportedly took his two young sons to Jade Goody’s grave today for Mother’s Day.

The reality TV star lost her battle to cervical cancer exactly two years ago and her sons, Bobby, seven, and six-year-old Freddy will bring flowers to the cemetary with their dad.

Talking of his plans for the poignant day, Jeff said: “I’m going to watch Bobby play football on Sunday morning and we’re going to go out for something to eat at a lovely place called Matching Green, it’s my favourite little village in Essex.

“Then I think we will go and visit the boys’ mum’s special place and obviously pay our respects there.”

The former ‘Dancing On Ice’ contestant also said he will be treating his own mum Jeanette to a meal as well.

He said: “Mother’s Day is all about taking my mum out, I guess.”

The 31-year-old star recently admitted how difficult it was for the boys after Jade, whom he dated from 2002 until 2004, passed away.

He told BANG Showbiz: “For 10 months it was almost eerie. It was like they were almost unaffected by it all. And then we had six months of absolute hell where I could barely keep up with what was happening.

“It spiralled out of control so quickly. There were more changes in those six months than I’ve ever had to go through. It was by far the most difficult period of my life.”

Laura Hamilton has claimed that she wouldn’t mind Jeff Brazier landing the Xtra Factor host role over her.

Laura is preparing to compete in tonight’s Dancing On Ice final and recently quit her job on children’s TV channel Nickelodeon, to concentrate landing some higher profile presenting jobs. Earlier this week she admitted that she would love to front ITV2′s X Factor spinoff show Xtra Factor, however her former teammate Jeff Brazier is also actively pursuing the job and speaking to The News Of The World, Hamilton said she wouldn’t be upset if he got it.

She said: “Jeff became a really good friend. I’d never see myself as going up against Jeff, we’re not like that with each other. We were on the team challenge together and I very much see Jeff as a team buddy. I’d be so happy for Jeff if he got a job over me.”

On what she has planned for her future career, Laura added:

“I’ll be honest in the fact that I’ve been in children’s TV for five years and I’m at the point in my career where I’d like to move forward into grown up telly and this is an opportunity that may allow me to do that.

“If you look at Holly and Phil, they’ve been children’s TV presenters, and there are loads more people who started in children’s telly. There are a few people I’d love to work on the things they work on.

“I’m not a wildchild. I’m a wholesome person. So I want to be presenting family audience shows.”

Jeff Brazier has implied that Jason Gardiner’s ‘Mr Nasty’ routine is all an act to ensure that he keeps his job on Dancing On Ice.

The TV presenter, who was eliminated from the ITV show last Sunday, had been on the receiving end of some of Gardiner’s viscous banter on numerous occasions. However, he said that backstage the dance expert is actually a really ‘nice guy.’

Speaking to Digital Spy, Brazier said: “I know that he plays the panto villain very well and for him it’s important that he does it because it means that he will get invited to judge the year after. He has to maintain that and I quite enjoy the banter to be honest.

“I knew that it wasn’t serious or malicious, although he did push his boundaries this year more than he has before. But I’m all for things like that. I think it makes the show a lot more watchable.”

Jeff Brazier has claimed that he may use some of the moves he learned on Dancing On Ice when out clubbing.

The TV presenter was speaking to Digital Spy about how he will keep practising his moves saying:

“I can’t imagine whether I’d be able to lift someone else.

Would it be possible? Would it be a disaster? I’ll probably be trying in nightclubs!”

“Next time I’ll be speaking to a girl, I’ll probably say, ‘do you mind if I put you into a roll up?’ I think that will be my party trick from now on.”

On who he thinks will win the series, Jeff admitted that he can’t choose one out of the final four, saying that all have an “edge and angle”.

Jeff Brazier has admitted that he wishes he hadn’t been eliminated from ‘Dancing On Ice’, as he would have found the new twist “exciting”.

The dad of two was voted off the show last weekend after he ended up in the bottom two with frontrunner Sam Attwater and admits he is disappointed not to have a place in the semi-final because he would have loved the chance to choreograph his own solo routine.

He said: “The contestants are making up their own routines this week in a twist that would have been right up my alley. We all chose a song last week that we would like to skate to on the tour, except really the producers were lining up a track for the semi-finals for us to choreograph our own move.

“My track was Maxwell’s ‘This Woman’s Work’ and I can imagine because of my love for a challenge, not to mention tinkering and tightening up my routines anyway, it would (or at least should have been) an exciting week for me.”

While Jeff doesn’t think Johnson Beharry will win a place in the final of the contest, he believes it would be at the expense of children’s TV presenter Laura Hamilton if there is a shock this week.

Writing on his MSN Celebrity, he added: “I wouldn’t like to call it between the girls; both are hitting the high scores, both are improving and I can’t help feeling that if Johnson makes a shock appearance in the final, it will be at the expense of one of them.

“The ‘form’ book tells us that as Chloe Madeley has never appeared in the bottom three, there’s a great chance she’ll make it. But as Laura has more of a background in performance, maybe I’d expect her to put together a better routine?”

Jeff Brazier has admitted that while he is happy he made it to the top five on ‘Dancing On Ice,’ he is disappointed that he didn’t get offered a full time spot on the show’s nationwide tour.

The 31-year-old TV presenter – who was eliminated from the ITV1 show on Sunday night (13.03.11) – admitted that it is a small consolation that he will get to cover for Vanilla Ice at a handful of shows.

He said: “At the beginning I thought I had a chance of being top five; that’s what I was aiming for. I was aiming for the tour but sadly I didn’t get a chance to be in it. Although, now I actually have a small part in it by doing a few dates in Newcastle and Birmingham.

“I’m in between feeling disappointed that I made mistakes in my first performance but I must admit I’m the sort of person to take the positive view and my skate-off was perfect so I’m really happy to go out on that high note.”

While Jeff doesn’t rate Johnson Beharry’s chances in the competition, he is finding it difficult to choose his favourite between the other semi-finalists Laura Hamilton, Chloe Madeley and Sam Attwater.

Writing on his MSN Celebrity blog, Jeff explained: “I don’t really want anyone to win more than the others, but I’ve felt quite an affinity to the others that trained at Lee Valley with me from October. So, that’ll be Laura and Chloe.

“Other than that, I think it should be Sam, Laura or Chloe – I really can’t split them! The twist this week, having to choreograph their own routines, will really separate them, though. And whoever gets to the final will have definitely earned it.”

Jeff Brazier has claimed that Elen Rivas was eliminated from Dancing On Ice, because she criticised the choreography given to her by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

The TV presenter was eliminated from the ITV show on Sunday night, after ending up in the bottom two with former frontrunner Sam Attwater and admitted that the former Olympic legends are treated like royalty backstage on the ice skating series.

He told The Daily Star:

“You don’t upset Jayne and Chris. You do as you’re told.”

“They have got an air about them. Everyone is overly respectful of them. You don’t question the choreography they give you. Elen Rivas signed her own exit release on the first show when she had a go at them about choreography.

“I didn’t watch their Olympic performance of Bolero until two weeks ago and now I understand why they walk with the air of importance they have.”

Jeff also admitted that he had to bite his tongue to stop himself from teasing Jason Gardiner about his new hair transplants on the live show.

He said: “When he’s giving you nasty comments you do feel like saying: ‘Keep your hair on.’”

Jeff Brazier has admitted that he knew his time was up, when he found out he was competing against Sam Attwater in last night’s Dancing On Ice skate off.

The TV presenter performed his prop based routine almost perfectly the second time round, but just couldn’t compete with Attwater’s skill and speed across the ice and the judging panel – Emma Bunton, Jason Gardiner and Robin Cousins – unanimously decided to send him home.

Speaking on This Morning Jeff admitted that his aim all night was to stay out of the skate off, as he knew he wouldn’t survive against a front runner. He said:

Obviously it would have been great to be in the semi finals but to have skated in the skate off the way we did, I feel very proud of that and to go out to Sam Attwater….I knew I was in trouble when it him and I in the skate off. But I probably would have had the same fate if it was me against Laura or me against Chloe. It was all about trying to avoid the skate off.

On why his first attempt of his routine – which saw him drop a chair and stumble coming out of a dangerous lift – went so wrong, the dad of two added:

All week the routine had been great and I knew it was going to be my best week but in the dress rehearsal I caught my toe when I let Isabelle go under the table and then really strange, but my laces snapped and my boot fell open and I think it niggled me.

Because the old nerves were back that you saw in the first couple of shows and that’s what you get when your legs are a bit stiff.

But Jeff feels like he redeemed himself with his skate off performance. he explained:

That’s why I can sit here very happy, because I went on in style if you like. So I can completely accept that.
