Jocelyn Brown became the second celebrity to be voted off Popstar To Operastar last night, after she and Joseph Washbourn found themselves in the bottom two having received the lowest amount of public votes.

Vanessa Mae and Katherine Jenkins voted to save Joseph, but Simon Callow voted to save Jocelyn. As Rolando was this week’s head judge, he had the casting vote and voted to save Joseph.

Upon being voted out, Jocelyn said: “I feel like I’ve had a nice journey and I’ve learnt a lot.”

The pop / opera collaboration this was Sharleen Spiteri with Milos who performed Say What You Want. Also Rolando performed No Puede Ser.

Claire Richards sung O Mio Babbino Caro from Gianni Schicchi by Puccini

Judges comments:

Katherine Jenkins said “Claire I am so pleased that you finally performed, because from today people are going to come up to you and say I didn’t know you were capable of that. I think you sang very well, but I am going to be hard on you because you are really good and you need to start believing it, your nerves got the better of you then, you can sing that better but it was still a really good performance.”

Simon Callow said “I loved it, absolutely gorgeous. One of the most beautifully arias ever written and she is twisting her dad round her little finger, she is quite a minx isn’t she? I loved the way you used the language, you used the text you started to act that out that was absolutely beautiful well done.”

Vanessa Mae said “What I loved is you let yourself go, you know you got over emotional but in a good way, in a way it translated into the musicality. It’s true you lost breath at one moment but what’s great is you overcame that and you gave it your all.”

Rolando Villazon said “Do I have to be the bad guy of the panel, I think your high notes were very nice you flowed them and they were in a good position apart from the last one. You need to put a bit more colour in the voice in the middle of it as that is why you are running a little bit out of breath.”

Rolando Villazon said “I mean Jocelyn there is so much I can say about the French about the placing of the voice, but you know what I love you.”

Katherine Jenkins said “That is the best I’ve ever seen you do that I am so impressed, there were some French issues. I think what we need to work on is that you struggle with the language. You understood what you were singing you were getting into the words, I totally loved it.”

Vanessa Mae said “I have to say I didn’t think you understand what you were singing about but whatever you were trying to put across you were having great imagination and that was great, but understanding every single word I didn’t get that from you.”

Simon Callow said “I am smiling so much it hurts. This story is about freedom, she has run away from prison and she has a new guy and she sees the future and she is with her own people, and she lets rip and you let rip and I thought you were brilliant.”

Andy Bell sung O Sole Mio by Di Capua / Capurro

Judges comments:

Katherine Jenkins said “ Andy there is something about you, when you perform it makes me smile, I really enjoyed that. That was one of the best I’ve seen you do. For some reason you adopted a strange pose leaning slightly forward, so thinking of going forward try to relax this but I thought your top note sounded lovely so well done”

Vanessa Mae said “It didn’t look like you were stiff, you were totally at ease, you were very comfortable with your arms, and I love that you put your own stamp on it and that is what it is about and your personality shone through.”

Rolando Villazon said “I do think you could have more physical expression, I think you can be more comfortable on stage. You are a very special performer, everything you’ve learnt you have made it your own version.”

Simon Callow said “You really used those words, which was beautiful and the song shone .”

Joseph Washbourn sung Votre Toast, Je Peux Vous Le Rendre (Toreador Song) from Carmen by Bizet

Vanessa Mae said “At the end of the day, a cruel sport (talking about bull fighting) but you can make a good matador. What I loved about it is the dynamics. I loved the fact you were really comfortable.”

Rolando Villazon said “I agree you took some risks and I thank you for that. I think you’ve gone a long way from here from the vice here in the throat. I think you have great operatic hair!”

Katherine Jenkins said “I thought the character was much better, the best I have seen it. Generally that was really well done.”

Simon Callow said “Incredibly strong, charismatic and sexy.”

Hit entertainment show, Popstar to Operastar contiunes with our best selling recording artists and challenges them to ditch the pop and become opera divas!

Presented by Myleene Klass, this year’s celebrities include X Factor winner Joe McElderry, soul diva Jocelyn Brown, Erasure front man Andy Bell, singer/songwriter Midge Ure, solo recording artist formerly of the Pussycat Dolls Melody Thornton, Steps singer Claire Richards, Toploader’s Joseph Washbourn and Buck Fizz star and former Eurovision winner Cheryl Baker.

They may have topped the charts but our singing sensations will be hoping they can be number one in the classical arena.

Helping them to hit the high notes are mentors Katherine Jenkins and Rolando Villazon – the highly regarded operatic duo will be using their expertise to guide our celebrity novices as they attempt to control their falsetto and deliver a world class performance.

Critically acclaimed actor, writer and theatre director Simon Callow and the award winning classical violinist Vanessa Mae will be joining Rolando and Katherine on the judging panel to offer their critiques on the performances.

Last year’s nail-biting finale saw Darius Campbell win the coveted title, but who will come out on top this year and make the transition from pop idol to operatic sensation?
