71 Degrees North: John Barnes replaces injured Martin Kemp

Martin Kemp has been forced to pull out of ITV’s 71 Degrees North due to injury it has been reported.

Former football star John Barnes has reportedly agreed to replace Kemp and is already making his way to Norway where the adventure show is being filmed.

Insiders say that Martin wrenched his back and could barely move, making most of the challenges and tasks impossible for him. John will now take his place on a team within the nine remaining celebrity contestants.

A source told The Sun:

“Being in South Africa did not put him off. He just said, ‘When do you need me?’, and the reply was, ‘Now’,” a source said. “He jumped on the next flight and landed in Norway this week.

“Martin had totally crocked himself and was ruled out by the medics. He did something to his back and was crying out in pain. The producers were panicking as they are in the middle of filming.”

The insider added: “He’s up for all the challenges and is still pretty fit for someone who hasn’t played pro football for more than ten years.”

The 47-year-old will now compete alongside Angelica Bell, Sean Maguire, John Thompson and Nicky Clarke. The second series of the show will be presented by Take Me Out star Paddy McGuinness and Sky Sports presenter Georgie Thompson.

John Barnes Leaves Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Come Dancing has lost John Barnes tonight, and I don’t imagine that anyone is very shocked. If it were a fair world, John would have lasted longer than Kenny Logan, but this man seems to have the whole of Scotland behind him!

John found himself tonight in the bottom two couples along with Brendan Cole and Kelly Brooks, and against such accomplished dancers he didn’t have much of a chance. The judges voted unanimously to keep Kelly, but it was nice to see Brendan being taken down a peg or two by the judges and the public!

John Barnes (professional partner is Nicole Cutler)

John Barnes is a hugely successful and well known English footballer of the Eighties and Nineties. John has racked up an impressive 752 appearances for four clubs scoring 562 goals.

In 1997 John left Liverpool football club to join former team mate and manager Kenny Dalglish at Newcastle United before joining Charlton Athletic.

In the summer of 1999, John joined Scottish giants Celtic as Head Coach. Following his retirement, John is highly in demand as a football match analyst and studio guest.
