Ben Shephard interviewed Kay Burley and Fred Palascak (who were knocked out of the competition on Saturday night) and judge Nicky Slater. First the discussion was about the overall performance to date of the competitors with Lee Sharpe and Kyran Bracken being encouraged to but in more performance, going from sportsman to performer.
Duncan James received special recognition as the most improved of the celebrities with his showmanship and natural skating skills, giving great performances. He and his partner Maria Flippox impressed all with their shimmering white outfits commented as looking like a snow prince and princess as they flowed across the ice. It was also said that Duncan related well to Maria and had both stance and speed. Read more & comment »

After a skate off between Clare Buckfield Dec’s (from Ant and Dec) long time (ex) girlfriend) and Andrei Lipanonov (who she is rumoured to be now dating) the judges chose the accident prone Kay to go. Kay seemed to have been underscored by the judges from beginning and even in the skate-off seemed to be the better skater of the two but at the end of the day, the judges have the final say, not the public.
A brilliant group show item was put on by all the contestants, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, which was outstanding. At first it looked like a show of professionals as the skating was of the highest standard with wonderful manoeuvres being faultlessly performed by all. When the ice show hits the road we will be in for a real treat. Duncan James has already signed up for this.
Next week we will be treated to the ‘Take That’ group playing two numbers during the show. Rugby player Kyran Bracken and Melanie Lambert received the top marks of 27 out of 30 although it was felt that Lee Sharpe and Frankie Poultney and Lisa Scott-Lee with Matt Evers, were every bit as good as Kyran and Melanie.
The costumes were superb with Kay and Lisa dressed as Western Saloon girls, Lisa wearing thigh high boots and both girls boasting sexy black garters.
The skating has become more and more daring as the competition hots up with the competitors vying to make the finals. At this stage anyone could win but the judges seem to favour Kyran and Melanie.
What will they have for us next week?

Last night saw a surprise result when Clare and Kay found themselves together in the bottom two. To be fair, no one was surprised to find Kay there AGAIN, but Clare is actually talented…why aren’t people voting for her?
The judges had no real choice, they had to save Clare. It seems that Kay can hardly even stand on the ice without falling. It’s probably better that she has left, at least she will suffer no more ice related injuries.
Kay made a lovely gesture as she left the show and she announced that (unlike Ulrika) she would be donating her fee to charity, to Macmillan Nurses specifically. I think she really did herself proud. But it was definitely time for her to leave.

Yesterday, just before she was due to appear on This Morning, Kay Burley took yet another fall on the ice, and this time managed to badly hurt her back.
It was touch and go as to whether or not she would make it on too the ice tonight and a source told The Daily Record that:
“She was in mid-lift with her partner Fred Palascak but fell, hurting her back, and was stretchered off.
“The show’s medics were with her promptly and she went straight into physio – but at the moment it is touch and go whether she’ll be able to perform. If she can’t skate, she’ll be out.”
Kay did make it out to perform tonight, but again was very much lagging behind the rest of the contestants. Kay is making real progress but I think that for once Judge Jason had a point when he said that people were beginning to vote for Kay just to see what she could injure next week. I just hope she manages to escape major injury before her ice skating stint ends.

The competition is opened each week with world famous Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean giving us a sensational routine followed by manoeuvres expected that night from the competitors.
Tonight the required element was the ‘assisted jump’ with both feet raised from the ground
The performances have become very daring and exciting with each couple introducing more courageous manoeuvres each week and the gap between professional and celebrity becoming less noticeable.
Kyran Bracken and Melanie Lambert with the thousand ruby stoned dress, stole the show and took first place. They kept us on the edge of our seats and holding our breaths as they flawlessly went through their very dangerous routine earning 26 out of 30 points. Read more & comment »

Kay Burley has sustained yet another injury this week as she managed to hit the ice face first when practising a lift.
Kay told The Sun: “I am now sporting a black eye worthy of ten rounds with Mike Tyson.
“Fred grabbed me from behind by one leg and span me round.
“I had a second to think ‘Ooh that ice looks closer than it should’. Next thing Christopher Dean was asking if I was OK.
That ice skating is more dangerous than it looks, with at least three of the girls sporting broken ribs and now Kay’s black eye, I hope the shows producers have taken out a good insurance policy!

SKY newsreader Kay Burley is one of the contestants due to appear on the ice this Saturday for the launch of ITV’s Dancing On Ice. Kay has revealed that she is dedicating her routines on the show to her late mother Kathleen who died from breast cancer 13 years ago.
Kay told The Sun: “She always said that I should dance when a lot of people are watching.
“As there’ll probably be 10m viewers tuning in, this is the perfect opportunity.
“So I’m doing this show in her memory and for the MacMillan Cancer Care charity which looked after her. I still miss her every day.

Ulrika Jonsson has started her time on Dancing On Ice as she means to go on and has already alienated most of the female contestants.
Her main problem though is with one contestant in particular, Kay Burley, the Sky newsreader who used to work alongside her on TV-am.
“Ulrika seems a little threatened,” one crew member said. “She really wants to impress. I do not think Kay is quite so bothered. But Ulrika has made sure her costumes are sexy. She definitely wants to be the Ice Queen.
“She’s getting on well with the men but not the women. She thinks she’s the main draw among the female contestants.”
