This week the battle ground has been moved to the busiest and most commercial shopping street in London – Oxford Street – where the designers take up their new residency on the shop floor of Debenhams.

Their challenge is every girl’s dream – to create a themed wedding dress that is both beautiful and not obviously traditional for TV presenter Holly Willoughby and they have just five minutes of one on one time with Holly to ascertain her needs as their new client. Read more & comment »

Project Catwalk: Red Carpet Dress For Myleene Klass

This week the remaining five designers are presented with a pop star client and a real Royal challenge.

Musician and presenter Myleene Klass sets them a challenge of creating a show stopping red carpet dress for her forthcoming appearance at the Royal Albert Hall.

With such an important challenge ahead of them, the designers are lucky enough to get some inside tips from a successful red carpet dress designer, and designer to Myleene- Kyri, but they are up against the clock to decide on the colour combinations and order the sumptuous silk fabrics to complete their designs.

With the pressure mounting the designers struggle to stay on schedule: Wayne hates his dress, Monika’s drab colour selection causes concern with Ben and it’s no surprise that Luke has set himself a rather challenging task. A last minute request from Myleene causes havoc in the studio when the designers are required to create an extra garment to compliment the dress. Shawla seems to have it all in hand until a couple of hiccups set her back. Read more & comment »

KELLY OSBOURNE TURNING JAPANESE: Episode Two

In episode two, a new day dawns in Tokyo and Kelly has had yet another night of disturbed sleep. This time it isn’t the jetlag that has been keeping her up, but the fact that she has been unwittingly drinking laxative tea. But Kelly is in the mood for laughing it off and throws herself into her next challenge – Manga Cosplay.

Manga (cartoon) magazines are huge in Japan. Japanese youngsters like nothing better than to dress up as their favourite character and show off to other lovers of fantasy. Of course, its something Kelly can’t resist.

With the help of a new Japanese friend Mai, Kelly has just 24 hours to pull something spectacular together. They hit the town and buy a manga doll for inspiration, on which Kelly will model her look. A purple wig, several metres of shiny fabric and a hilarious fitting session later, Kelly hits the stage before several hundred other similarly dressed hopefuls.

It’s a great morning out, until a Japanese photographer suggests she strikes a pose that is less than innocent and all her reservations about the role of women resurface. Dejected, Kelly gets out of her costume and heads home. She tries to cheer herself up by doing what any self respecting Japanese youngster would do after a bad day – go and lose herself in Tokyo’s spectacular games arcades, but it only worsens her mood.

It is said that modern Japan is a window to the future and Kelly’s next job is thoroughly 21st century – she will be working in an oxygen bar. Instead of having a couple of beers in a conventional bar, customers can plug into a pure oxygen tank, a setting that looks more like a sci fi movie. The experience is supposed to relax and revitalise and can even help to burn fat. Despite still struggling with the language, Kelly loves working at the oxygen bar and she even puts an oxygen unit on her Christmas wish list. Back home, Kelly continues her mission to learn the language, taking in vital phrases such as “vodka and cranberry, please and soon she puts all of her new found knowledge into good effect, with a well earned night out.

Kelly and Yumi visit a Host club, a nightspot where hard working Japanese women go to be courted by young Japanese men, who have a strong line in shiny tuxedos and cheesy chat up lines. The men feed Kelly strawberries, pay her compliments and then take the courtship to the next level with a Japanese drinking game, Pit Pat Pong. The climax is a series of baffling, but hilarious impressions of Robert De Niro and Mr Bean. Kelly is won over and hits the surreal dance floor with her new male companions.

The next day Kelly returns to the traditional and spiritual side of her quest, when she leaves Tokyo and heads for the beautiful mountains to become a Buddhist Nun. Midway through a lengthy sermon on impermanence Kelly dissolves into a fit of giggles. She spends the rest of day out of uniform and applying herself to a series of Buddhist tasks.

Back in Tokyo, she takes part in a mass Buddhist and uniquely Japanese event – the Burning Doll festival where people of all ages queue to burn their treasured childhood dolls. It is said to release emotion, be symbolic of life’s transience and bring good luck. Kelly is strangely moved by the whole event and reflects on her mum’s battle with cancer. It seems as if Kelly is finally settling into the country she loves.

ITV2 Thursday 8 February 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Project Catwalk: Day At The Races

In this episode the nine remaining designers are asked to create the perfect dress to wear to the races for this week’s guest judge, Lady Isabella Hervey.

For inspiration they head to the Newmarket Races where the designers get their claws into the race day clothes, as well as having a flutter on the horses. Whilst there, they meet jockey Frankie Dettori and his wife Catherine who tells the designers what she looks for in a race day outfit.

Back at the studio mentor Ben De Lisi informs the designers that this week they will be working in teams of three and chooses the head designer for each team. They in turn choose a fabric buyer and an accessory buyer. Much friction follows and the concept of team spirit bolts.

The clock is ticking and by the end of this episode one more designer will have been put out to pasture.

Judging the designs this week is Julien MacDonald, Grazia’s Melanie Rickey and guest judge Lady Isabella Hervey.

Each week the budding designers face elimination based on how they meet the challenges set for them by the panel until only three remain. The three finalists will each showcase full lines on the catwalk and the winning designer’s garments will be photographed for top women’s magazine Grazia and will also receive the seed money to help them launch their own line.

Episode 4 of Project Catwalk Airs At 9pm on Monday 5th February at 9pm SKY ONE

Project Catwalk: Designers Pair Up!

The designers are paired up and have free reign on their creations but unfortunately some find themselves working with rather tricky customers. Even picking their fabrics is no easy task and the stress of having to do menswear hits Tyla hard.

Back at the studio, mentor Ben de Lisi has something to say about the standard of garments being produced. Shawla’s confidence goes rapidly downhill and some partnerships appear not to be a match made in heaven.

The designers get some top tips from the Project Catwalk Hair & Make-Up team and Presenter, Kelly Osbourne drops by with the models - to spare the designers humiliation when they hit the Catwalk - and even gives it a turn herself.

It’s back to work but with a strong-minded bunch of designers, some of them struggle to get their clients to agree to their new look. Minutes before the Catwalk, it all gets heated in Hair & Make-up, Fatz and Monika are at each others throats whilst Tyla is out of her comfort zone in rock-chick leather.

With friendships in tatters and rivals working together, time is up and the designers strut their new head-to-toe looks on the Catwalk- where someone will be given the boot.

Judging the designers new looks are top designer Julien MacDonald, style director of Grazia magazine Paula Reed, guest judge Karen Binns and the lovely Kelly Osbourne.

Each week the budding designers face elimination based on how they meet the challenges set for them by the panel until only three remain. The three finalists will each showcase full lines on the catwalk and the winning designer’s garments will be photographed for top women’s magazine Grazia and will also receive the seed money to help them launch their own line.
