Former Apprentice winner Lee McQueen is to quit his £100,000 job and take up a public speaking role instead.

The 32 year old won the BBC business show in 2008 and since then has worked in Alan Sugar’s company Amscreen. However he has decided to leave and is now looking for public speaking and motivational engagements in and around the London area.

He has previously carried out work for Hillingdon Council.

A council spokesman told The Sun: “He has been involved in training events in the borough through Hillingdon Training Ltd, a private company.”

Lee said: “Having gained a huge amount of experience in my role at Amscreen, I felt now was the right time to start up on my own.”

Lord Sugar said: “Lee has made an important contribution to Amscreen and we wish him the best.”

We have to wonder if Sugar is a terrible boss or if he picks the wrong people to employ each year. After five series of the reality TV shows, only one Apprentice still works for him and she only landed the job last year.

Timothy Campbell worked in Amstrad for two years, but left in March 2007 to set up the Bright Ideas Trust. Michelle Dewbury lasted only 11 months in the company in 2006, before she left to pursue a career in public speaking. The 2007 winner Simon Ambrose left Amsprop earlier this year to set up his own company. It makes you wonder…..

Tonight’s Apprentice result was a bit of a shocker for me, as I fully expected Claire Young to win.

Even after Lee and Claire won the aftershave challenge it seemed that she still had the upper hand as she had delivered such an amazing presentation and kept her cool throughout the task.

But tonight Sir Alan preferred Lee McQueen and although I was rooting for loud mouthed Claire, I can see the business strengths and talents that Lee possesses. I like that he is savvy without ever having the benefit of a priveledged education, I like that he is straight and honest and extremely hard working. He leads teams well and inspires those around him.

I suppose after reading that last paragraph I can kind of see why Sir Alan chose him…….

Lee describes himself as a cat – sometimes purring with affection and other times just biting. He has over eight years experience in the recruitment industry gained predominately in IT. To cheer up his colleagues he likes to do a “reverse pterodactyl” which involves him standing on a chair and screeching. He applied to the show because he believes Sir Alan to be “a true entrepreneur” and thinks he can learn to be a fantastic businessman working for him.

He says: “There is no airy-fairy stuff with me, I tell it how I see it.”
