Lembit Opik is supposed to be a politician, we know that most of you won’t be aware of that, given his flings with cheeky girls and his love of reality TV, but that is actually supposed to be his day job.

However, it seems he may have gotten fed up with his serious career, as after losing his seat in parliament for the constituency of Montgomeryshire back in 2010 and then losing the Liberal Democrats’ nomination as Mayor of London in the 2012 election, he has apparently turned his hand to starring in music videos.

The 46 year old – who has previously starred in Celebrity Juice, All Star Mr and Mrs, Loose Women, Bargain Hunt Famous Finds, Stand Up for the Week, Al Murray’s Happy Hour, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Come Dine With Me and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! – has popped up in the world of popular culture again this week and is featured in a music video by the band The Good Suns (no we’d never heard of them either!)

We have to admit we did have a bit of a giggle at the clip below and let’s be honest, who doesn’t like mocking a politician but on a more serious note, Margaret Thatcher never would have behaved so badly! What is the world of politics coming to? Next thing we know, David Cameron will be on The X Factor!

Celebrity Big brother will be back in just a few weeks and news is starting to leak about which famous faces we may see in the house.

Today, Daily Star journalist (and Big brother fanatic) Peter Dyke has dropped a little hint on Twitter, teasing that one of the 2011 housemates will be a British politician.

He tweeted his followers this message just a few minutes ago:

Celeb Big Bro tease. Which celeb will def get more votes from the public to be evicted than they did to become an MP in 2010?

Our first thought was, please God, don’t let it be Lembit Öpik!

The 46 year old Liberal Democrat member was MP for mid Wales constituency Montgomeryshire from 1 May 1997 – 6 May 2010. But lost his seat to the Conservatives in the general election last year.

We know that he has a love of reality TV shows, having previously appeared on Come Dine With Me, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and Sport Relief Does The Apprentice, so a stint in the Big Brother house wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for the star.

Also, he could do with having his profile raised as Lembit is currently running for the Liberal Democrats’ nomination as Mayor of London in the 2012 election.

However, we admit, we could be completely off the mark with this one. The new housemate could be any one of a number of people and to be honest, we’re really hoping it’s some other politician….but not George Galloway….he’s had his turn!

I’m A Celebrity reject Lembit Opik has defended Gillian McKeith, saying that she didn’t fake her fainting fits.

The former Liberal Democrat MP said that he thinks the ‘You Are What You Eat’ star was incorrectly accused of pretending to have phobias and revealed that he chatted about the issue with Gillian after she was eliminated from the ITV show yesterday.

Speaking on Daybreak, Opik said: “I actually cross questioned her this afternoon as I have been quite a defender of hers and I’ll tell you now live on British television that I think Gillian McKeith is innocent and she wasn’t faking it.”

On what his career plans are for the future, Opik added:

“I had thinking time and that’s what I needed between what I did before in parliament and whatever I do next,” he said. “No reasonable job offer refused! If anyone is looking for someone who can keep a camp in good order, I’m looking for work – give me a break!”

It wasn’t a fun ride for Kayla as she embarked on the celebrity chest with Lembit. Greeted by two mini amusement rides, the pair had to make their way through the coins provided to lower the key and release the chest.

As Lembit attempted to bond with his fellow camp mate, his jokes fell flat on Playboy bunny Kayla who later commented, “Lembit’s jokes are kind of boring…He’s so nice, he means well, he’s just such a dork…It felt like a life time with Lembit.”

But the former politician was unaware his humour wasn’t have the desired effect and felt that the challenge had “brought us closer together.”

Successfully returning to camp, the celebrities were soon in debate over the question, which was: As of midnight in the UK who out of all the celebrities in camp had the most searches on the internet?

Dom was convinced it was Gillian or Stacey, while Britt felt that it could be her or Shaun. In the end Dom took charge and opted for Gillian which was the correct answer, second place was Aggro whilst comedian Dom was third. The TV presenter was clearly happy that she was top of the list and the camp mates enjoyed some Monster Munch crisps and twiglets.

Commenting on why he was adamant it was Gillian, Dom added “Just because she is the most irritating woman I’ve ever seen on TV.”

Lembit Opik has admitted that he doesn’t think Gillian McKeith faked her fainting fits on I’m A Celebrity…….Get Me Out Of Here.

The former Lib Dem MP was evicted from the show tonight and during his exit interview Ant and Dec asked what he thought of Mc Keith’s frequent hysterics.

Opik replied:

Gillian has had an incredible journey. She basically was phobic about insects and confined spaces and creepy crawlies and fish and in other words everything this show is about. I kept telling her “insects are your friends” and eventually she tried to conquer her and in my view she has been an absolute star. She shows that if you do focus on your fears, you can overcome them…..respect to her.

The former Cheeky Boy also confessed that he is gutted to be leaving the ITV show, saying that he didn’t want the experience to end. Lembit added:

I could have done this experience for a few more days. I was learning so much about myself. A completely clear environment, no telephones, no emails, no meetings and I was really having a personal experience and I feel good about what I learned. I didn’t want that to end.

You can learn so much, first of all about how little you need to live on, you don’t need the luxuries and secondly what it’s like to be in a team in high pressure.
