Linford Christie has admitted that he thought about quitting ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’.

The Olympic gold medallist – who was voted off the ITV1 show on Tuesday (30.11.10) – admitted he found it tough sticking it out in the jungle and considered leaving on a number of occasions because he was so hungry.

He said: “There were definitely times when I wanted to walk. You realise your loved ones are in Australia and you want to see them. There are also times when you’re hungry and it’s tough. You’re used to having the luxury of opening your fridge and having whatever food you want.

“We take a lot of things for granted in this world. Even having no seasoning on your food and having no salt is tough.”

While he doesn’t think he would have been able to last four more days until Saturday’s (04.12.10) final, the athlete thought it would have been wrong to walk out on his fellow celebrities.

Linford added to Digital Spy: “I’m not sad I didn’t make the final. To be honest, I didn’t go into the jungle to win. I went in there to have an experience and a good time. I would have to be in the camp for four more days to last until the final, but it would have been hell. I don’t think I would’ve lasted four more days.

“Everyone who is left behind now feels exactly the same way I did. They just have to hang in there. It would be wrong to walk because you’ve endured the worst times. You might as well sit it out and see what happens.”

Linford Christie was voted off ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ last night .

On hearing the news he had received the lowest amount of public votes, the Olympic gold medallist jumped into the air, telling hosts Ant and Dec he’d “had enough”.

He said: “Oh God, I have had enough, I had enough days ago.”

The 50-year-old athlete – who assumed the role of leader in the jungle camp the stars have been living in for the past two-and-a-half weeks – admitted despite putting on a brave face, he was “scared” of a lot of the critters he had to deal with during his time on the ITV1 show.

Linford explained: “There are things in there which scared me but you can’t let on. They see me as the leader and the motivator and you just have to be brave.

“When you’ve got to do something for the team you’ve just got to get on with it, it comes from my athletics training.”

Meanwhile, comedians Dom Joly and Jenny Eclair have both threatened to quit the show because they are “bored”.

Dom told the ‘Grumpy Old Women’ star: “I’ve had it with this endless round of conversation. I need to talk to someone else. If you weren’t here I would have walked.”

Linford Christie and Dom Joly became emotional on last night’s I’m A Celebrity, when the camp mates opened their parcels from home.

Having won the gifts in the secret mission challenge, feelings were running high as they each took turns to open their gifts.

But it was Linford and Dom who found it the toughest. Linford was in tears after one of his gifts was a picture of his daughter, whilst Dom struggled to read the postcard from his wife and kids. Instead it was read out by Gillian. He later commented, “It was odd hearing my wife’s voice read out by Gillian McKeith.” But the comedian welled up at his message and later admitted, “I never cry, I didn’t cry properly but I couldn’t read my own thing.”

Stacey received some knickers and joked, “a pair of knickers, cause I’m a dirty ol’ cow! I need some new knickers.”

Shaun was chuffed with his package which contained two energy drinks, two sachets of Cup a Soup and a card from his wife and kids. He turned a little red when he read out the card and his wife had written “Keep up the hard work Tarzan!”

The camp mates all admitted it was better than Christmas and referred to the day and their “Jungle Christmas.”

Nigel Havers has blasted some of his former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ campmates.

The Brothers and Sisters actor – who quit the show yesterday – branded Gilliam McKeith “controlling and touchy”, admitted he tired of Linford Christie’s constant talking and said Playboy model Kayla Collins comes from “another planet”.

He said: “There are two sides to Gillian. One is controlling and touchy, and the other is playing a game to get maximum publicity.

“I wished Linford would shut up but he’s bigger than me. I told him to shut up but he thought I was joking.

“Kayla didn’t contribute much. She comes from another planet, Los Angeles. There’s Mars, Jupiter, and then Los Angeles.”

However, the 59-year-old star had kind words for “elegant” Sheryl Gascoigne, “wonderful” Britt Ekland, and “strong and funny” Jenny Éclair.

Nigel also tipped Stacey Soloman to win.

He said of the former ‘X Factor’ star: “It would be a great result if she won it.”

Show bosses are said to regard the star’s exit as a huge blow for the show.

One insider said: “Nigel is a big loss. The producers tried everything they could to change his mind.

“But Nigel was sick of the conversation with the other contestants, he found most of them a little ignorant.”

The campmates had all started to comment that they were finding Linford boring in that he constantly talked about himself.

Dom said “Linford likes talking about himself and nothing else which is beyond tedious now it really is It’s just like whatever. He’ll start to say something and he’ll wait for a gap in the conversation.”

Britt said “No one else can ever say anything because he just talks and talks and talks and never stops.”

Jenny said “I don’t think he’s every asked me one personal question. I know about how many children he’s got, his house, his landscape gardening. I don’t think he even knows I do comedy. And later to Dom she said “He just isn’t interested in anyone else.”

Meanwhile Britt had carved quite a reputation for being bossy in her self styled role as Queen Bee of the camp. Kayla said “Brit is like the boss lady. Everybody is a bit scared of Britt.”

Dom said “She reminds me of a German school mistress. She might get the ruler out an smack you on the buttocks.”

Nigel said “I think the queen should always get what she wants. She is our master and our queen.”

Jenny added that “She does this thing where she kind of sucks her jaw in if she sees something she disapproves of. But she’s right. Things have got to be kept clean. There have got to be rules. Give the girl some credit.”

And Britt admitted “I’m horribly bossy. Not a nice quality but rules are rules.”

Playboy beauty Kayla was determined to keep herself groomed in the jungle despite the outdoor surroundings. She told Dom that she had filed her nails with a stone and when he asked if she was used to doing “outdoor stuff” she replied “sure, there’s an outdoor yoga class in my park that is amazing. I can put my legs over my head and do the human pretzel.”

Dom’s mind wandered to Kayla’s modelling career and asked what Kayla’s parents thought about her career choice.

She revealed that despite her parents being strictly religious, they were supportive about her work. “I thought they would freak out about it. I grew up in a really Christian family. My parents were the bible study readers. I wasn’t allowed to watch MTV but they’ve been really supportive.”

Later Linford asked similar questions and enquired as to whether Kayla had done a full frontal nude shot. “Yeah, I did Playboy. It’s tasteful” she replied. “Nude is nude. Did you flash your bits?” he continued as Sheryl and Stacey both stood up for Kayla. “Linford’s got very very strong views about it and he’s quite adamant that girls should never be doing that kind of thing” explained Sheryl later.

Linford asked if she was living with her parents at the time. “I was living with my dad. My parents think it’s amazing that I have built my career and I am doing so well for myself.”

But Linford had strong views. “My daughter would know not to come and ask me. I understand but to me, and I’m not knocking you, but to me there’s models and there’s models. My daughter wouldn’t do it She wouldn’t be coming in my house if she did it. When you live in your parents’ house you have to abide by their rules regardless of whether you like it or not.”

Later Kayla explained “He’s so judgemental about these type of things and somehow brought up prostitution.”

Linford turned to Stacey and asked her “If your son grows up and decided to be a gigolo, that’s ok with you?” If he wants to be a male prostitute, that’s ok? There are certain professions that are a no no.”

Kayla added “They all have their opinions. I know what sort of person I am and I don’t’ see anything wrong with what I do.”

Linford also revealed that he had turned down offers to do nude modelling to which Stacey joked “Thank God for that. That’s the last thing I want to see when I open a magazine.”

The I’m A Celebrity males have been quick to criticise each other this year and the man everyone seems to be picking on is former Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik.

Last night Nigel Havers was seen turning on the wittering Cheeky Girls lover and earlier Linford Christie told him that he should have been jailed for his abuse of the expenses system.

Lembit, 45, claimed that he had tried to be honest and only had to pay back “£90 out of seven years’ worth of expenses”.

But Christie wasn’t convinced and he insisted that anyone who had to pay back cash should be locked up, along with Prime Minister David Cameron.

He added: “If you’re with people and they do something wrong you’re an accomplice. You go to jail for what they do.”

I’m A Celebrity contestant Linford Christie has admitted that he can’t wait for Camp Bruce and Camp Sheila to merge, because he’s been dreaming about Kayla Collins’ bum.

Despite being more than twice her age, the Olympic runner, 50, told the his male campmates that he is looking forward to seeing the former Playboy model’s “perky and round bottom”.

An insider told The Sun: “It seems that the producers’ plan to split the group into separate camps to whip up sexual frustration is paying off – with Linford at least.”

Linford, who has a long term girlfriend, is about to get his wish as the two camps will be merged today!

The male campmates screamed like girls on last night’s I’m A celebrity, after they came face to face with their first venomous snake.

A ranger was called in to remove the reptile and identified it as a small eyed snake which can paralyse and even kill with it’s venom.

Afterwards former runner Linford Christie admitted:

“It was a bit scary. I panicked a bit.”

We’re just glad that Gillian McKeith didn’t see it!

Linford Christie has admitted that he wants to have a bit of a break and some time for himself during his time in the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

The former Olympic runner runs his own sports management company and helps coach other athletes. On why he decided to sign up for the ITV reality TV show he admitted:

“I have spent years since I retired doing things for everyone else,” he adds. “I am always coaching. I grew up in Jamaica and we played with insects. I don’t do that anymore and I haven’t been camping in my life either. It would be nice to pick up some tips! This is going to be a challenge for me and it will be an experience. This is very much ‘me’ time.

“I don’t know if I have got any phobias, but I will soon find out!”

Although he isn’t scared of the bugs and creepy crawlies, Christie admits that the thought of eating testicles fills him with horror.

“I am not sure about the testicle thing,” he confides. “I am a guy. I don’t eat testicles. But you do have to pull your weight and if it means you won’t eat, you will have to do things you don’t want to do.”

He says he will be over the moon if he makes his kids laugh.

“They don’t actually know I am doing this yet but whenever they watch the programme, they tell me to go on so they can laugh,” he says. “I am sure they will think it is cool and they can laugh at my expense. If they laugh, it means I have done well.”

And he is dreading being cut off from his kids for such an extended time. “I used to go away for months when I was competing but I could talk to them on Skype or on the phone,” he adds. “In the jungle I won’t be able to and I will miss my kids the most of course.”
